A perfect port!

When Konami sets their minds to it, they really makes gems of games. They did it with Metal Gear Solid on the Playstation, and have done it again with the game boy color port. The game is not just a port of the PlayStation version, but instead an all new version of the MG universe. I could touch on the story, but it's so much fun to just be suprised well playing the game. The graphics are bright and colorful, taking full advantage of the GBC. The sound is AMAZING, thousands of lines of speach dialog. Plus, the game is rated everyone, so it doesnt contain the blood and gore of the PSX version. This game will take about 10 hours for the seasoned game player to beat, and includes 100's of VR missions, in which you practice the diffrent aspects of the game, which is great. The game focuses on stealth and plot, with some action, which it does beautifully. Your never bored, and there are not tough puzzels to handle. If you are a fan of the genre, or just want a great game, pick this up as fast as possible!

A Classic for GBC

I must say this beforehand: this is a game that takes place BEFORE the Shadow Moses Incident (The conflict in the PSX version of MGS). That said, this is a different storyline than on that console.

In the game, you play as super-agent Solid Snake, who is kidnapped out of retirement to infiltrate a terrorist base in the (fictional) country of Gindra. The terrorists have a huge weapon called Metal Gear that has nuclear capability (Imagine a very fat person with guns for arms, make him a robot, then stretch him out so that he's 80 feet tall, and you've got an idea of what Metal Gear looks like). Snake's mission: to destroyMetal Gear and to rescue any hostages. The story after that is very engaging and interesting, especially when everything hits the fan at the end.

Unlike other action games, which play like a Schwartzenager movie, MGS forces you to keep yourself hidden from the enemy, and also to keep quiet so that the scumbags can't hear you. The level design keeps players on their toes and on the brink of insanity from the suspense of hiding from an aproaching guard, especially on the Hard and Very Hard difficulty levels.

For Game Boy Color, the graphics are superb, but the sound might grind on ears used to the advanced stuff on the GBA. Even so, the last few themes are catchy. The gameplay practically grabs you by the collar and demands that you play. It's that addictive. The fact that there's an unlockable "special" Stage Select mode that allows you to revisit previous stages with a mission other than reaching the goal makes you want to search for other goodies.

As usual, the guards are entertainingly near-sighted (But don't get close to them if they're facing you!) and stupid(Knock 'em out, and they just take a quick look around before going back to their patrol routes), and the bosses are fun to fight. The Metal Gear is a truly hard final boss, though there is an "extra" battle atthe end that is intense, if not hard.

Speaking of intensity: the second boss, Marionette Owl, describes his sister's death in morbid detail, and also uses the dead bodies of two women as puppets. Other just as disturbing cases happen with the bosses, so a parent might not want his/her child playing this unless he/she is twelve or older. Even so, it's a great game--a must-buy for action gamers everywhere.

P.S. Play this with headphones. I can barely hear the sound without them.

very good action-packed game

I didn't expect this to be a great game, but I was wrong! Going from the Playstation to the Game Boy the graphics weren't the same, of course, (although they were still great for the game boy color) but its the same idea: you sneak around finding items you need to get further in the level like ID cards and night vision goggles. There are a lot of weapons in the game, but the idea is to not be seen or else tons of guys swarm to you. There's a great plot and the game is very story based: You are trying to stop terrorists from blowing up the USA with a bomb called "Metal Gear".You have to crawl through tall grass and mud, run, and you can knock on walls to lure a gaurd away from his position allowing you to get past him.

There are tons of levels in the game and lots of bosses. There are also training levels to help you get used to the gameplay and all the weapons-the first couple are easy, but some ae very hard and you'll find yourself playing them once you've beaten the game, which is by no means easy. Overall the best gameboy game I have ever played.

if you thought that all this pokemon crap is the killer app on the GBC, you're wrong: MGS is THE game on Nintendo's little joy bringer! sure, it's 2D, and the graphics just don't compare to the PSX original, but the animations are perfect and the level of detail is astonishingly, especially for the GBC. and, most of all, it's FUN FUN FUN to play. it's got a back-up battery so you won't loose your savegames when the duracells run dry, it's got tutorial missions inspired by the PSX-VR-Missions, it's got FUN, cool weapons, Big Bosses, big levels, FUN, guards to sneak by and avoid, FUN, it will link with MGS2 for the PS2 (really! ), it's got a 2-player-link-mode, FUN, time-attack-levels for all the hardcore-gamers out there, and did i mention FUN before? you see, i love this game. really. you should buy it. now. just click on the ORDER NOW - button. you won't regret it. i tell you.

Just as good as the one on Playstation

I found this game easy but harder then the playstation version. I found this to be one of the Best GBC games ever. Its fun keeps you interested great graphics, not so bad ending fun and has one of the best stories GBC has ever seen and well its just plain old fun. I like it so much. A little more challengeing then the playstation as well and some of its "Puzzles" get a little frustrating but other then that its just a great game!

With the blockbuster success of Metal Gear Solid for the PS1, Konami decided to make the game portable for Nintendo's 8-bit GameBoy Color, and while many specualtions over the quality of the game were not very good at all, every GBC owner on the planet was shocked when this was released. For being an 8-bit system, the graphics and sound are simply astounding, and the controls are exact and dead on. Stealth is still the name of the game and you'll have to dodge guards and security cameras to complete your mission, plus VR missions and cut scenes are here as well, making this game play so unbelieveably close to it's PS1 counterpart that many a gamer will be left in awe when they see it in action. The storyline is a prequel to the PS1 game that would set up the events that take place in that game, and while it may start out as a run of the mill story, it quickly picks up and by the time you finish the game you'll be catching your breathe. All in all, Metal Gear Solid is essential to action fans and GBC owners everywhere.

One of the best portable games ever. PERIOD.

Metal Gear Solid for Game Boy Color is simply one of the best portable games ever made. Based on the smash hit, award winning Playstation version, this game truly pushses the limits of the Game Boy hardware. The graphics, sound, story and content will blow your mind. Once again you are Solid Snake, out to save the world again from Metal Gear. The game features a top view, with some incredibly impressive graphics and control. The levels are huge and feature a good amount of exploring, making this one challanging and fun game to play. When you beat a level, you can go back to beat your old time, basically a "Time Attack" mode. There are four difficulty levels as well, plus a TON of VR Missions, for you to train and train again with various weapons and tactics. If you own a Game Boy Color, do me a favor and purchase this game. You'll be amazed, simply amazed on what Konami has pulled off this time around. It remains true to the original Playstation version, which is the most important. Plus it has an awesome link cable battle mode!

The best gameboy can do

Sometimes you get caught up in the hype of a gameboy color game or think it is going to be as good as its big brother on the other system. They don't capture the same feeling as playing the game on the playstation or n64. But, Metal Gear does. It plays like the original mg, but has alot of the features as metal gear solid. Its like the two combined together and this is what was formed. It is not argueably, but easily the best gameboy game ever made. Trust me and all of the other fans, dont get caught up in the hype and go out and buy tomb raider or something stupid like that. This is one of the only good gameboy games that adults and teenagers will enjoy rather than just kids. Its also got the vr missions crammed into it. It is two games in one! How stupid most gb games are, i would of payed 30 bones just for the vr missions. You just can't literally get better on the gameboy than this. AWESOME!

It's Great!

I think that this game has very good graphics, great gameplay, and good control. It is not gory or bloody at all. So if you are looking to but it for your kids its okay. The way you get bombarded by enemys if you pass by a security camera or someone catches you is so cool. This is a must have for all gameboyers of all ages.

A Great game!
