Better than the first

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 is a lot better than the first skateboarding game. The outlay of the skating is done in side scrolling slash three-d graphics. There is a PC interface, too.

Best handheld Skating Game Ever

Tony Hawk 2 is better than the first in the sense that it is now 2/3d. The focus is not on racing fast, but on doing tricks, when you do a trick you can actually see your little character do the move. 7 stages including a beach, a school, a park, a street and many more. The characters are not just the same with their stats and with their color, when you choose one you choose him or her because they can do things better or worse. The career mode lets you choose different boards that enable you to do different things. Overall, I think that this is a great game and the best skating game on any handheld.

the best game ever

Best Skateboarding game Ever!

I bought this game because of a lack of anything else. I made a good choice. This is the BEST game I own. It has all of the best in skateboarding. Everyone has three different boards. There are seven levels. You can print out pictures of tricks with the printer. You can do cool tricks, accomplish four objectives in every level, choose your favorite boarder, buy better boards, grab loose cash, get entry to new skate parks, and then get a password so you can come back to your game later. Cool. Each player has different stats, different clothes, two signature tricks and a special grind. There are thirteen different skateboarders, each with strenghts and weaknesses. Simply the best game. Awesome color. Easy controls. Loads of fun. It keeps me playing for hours. It is fun to go out and see what your highest piont trick you can land is. Every level has the letters S-K-A-T-E which are fun to try to locate. Overall, the best game I've ever played. I would recommend it to any who either (a) likes skateboarding (b) likes to have fun (c) needs a great game It is AWESOME! Very cool. You should consider buying it. It's worth your money!

Great game if you like a challenge

It is a great game but it was pretty difficult. You can't race against the system you can only go to different places and earn money by doing specific things. The only way to go to some areas is if you pay an entry fee, which is a lot of money. Also you have to buy boards. There are many different players to choose from though. I am going to get "BOARDER ZONE" for GB color because I think it's a better game. (it's a snowboarding game) Check it ou.

Skateboarding is fun but not in this game.

Pick one of the skaters and go skate in a street or vert place. Doesn't sound too good. Well, it isn't. The graphics are horrible (for obvious reasons, its GB color!) and tricks are limited. 4 verts, 3 streets. Just dont get this game.

What is this???

After playing the first Hawk title on the GBC, I thought that Activision would learn a few lessons and actually get their act together for a handheld version.

Well, this game is almost as bad as the first one for Gameboy Color. The graphics are slightly better, and the intro screens look pretty good. Other than that, the game is just horrible. The skaters will grind no matter what, so that quality gets old in about 3 minutes. Did I mention play control? In reality there isn't much to talk about in this dept b/c there is no play control. This game sucks!

Why can't they make this like THPS 2 For Playstation?!

When I first picked out this game and read the booklet, I thought this game would be a blast! Well to my surprise, it's not as fun as you think it will be! This game has about 10 tricks you can do. That's it. The levels aren't put together very well and are almost impossible to get cash or good points. The points is another story. In THPS for N64, you can score major points! In this game, the higest combo points I got was 5321. That's nothing compared to THPS for N64 or THPS 2 for Playstation! This game has only two boards you can buy. And they cost a lot! The graphics are exceptional because this is GBC. The levels, verts and streets, are very short! They have no cool stuff like jumping throught secret rooms or special moves like over the pipe or something. When you try to grind, the charater will grind no matter what so that gets boring very quick. I got this game for easter and I haven't played it much because it's so boring! My advice: Don't buy this game. Save your money for a game like Super Mario Bros DX or Mario Golf or even better, Zelda: Links Awakening DX. If you want a very detailed description or Zelda: Links Awakening DX, Look for my friends review on it. His name is Mike Brennan. So save your money man and don't waste it on this game!

Pretty good, but....

This game is pretty good. I enjoy it, and it has clean 2-d scrolling and/or 3-d levels that let you go closer or farther away from the screen (giving the illusion of depth). The graphics are good for a Game Boy, but the levels are short. Many of them only have 1 or 2 half-pipes and they are loaded with grinding rails. If you jump near a grindable surface, you automatically grind it, so it takes a lot of manueverability away from the game. It would be better if you had to press B or something to start the grind, although doing that and using the D-pad allows you to perform different types of grinds.

Also, there are limited tricks you can do, there are only 3 skateboards for each player, it's hard to make enough money to buy a new board or a new park, and the locations only amount to 7, with 4 of them being available to you at the beginning.

My verdict, don't rush to your local electronics store to buy the game, but wait a while and consider my comments. Or you could get Game Boy Advance and buy its THPS2 game, which I don't have either of, but it has good reviews as of now. If you want an OK skateboarding game that you can have some fun with, go ahead and get this. Otherwise, take your time and shop around, maybe you'll find something else that piques your interest.

DONT BUY THIS

Just when you thought that the first Hawk game on the GBC was the worst hand-held skate game on the market, Activison releases Hawk 2...ouch.

Once again the phrase of the day is "poor play control". Combine bad controls with the fact that you can't even tell what your skater is doing and you have Tony Hawk 2 on GBC. I'm not sure why Activision continues to make skate games on the current Game Boy system, b/c these 2 are some of the worst games I have ever played in my life.
