Uhhhhh... whatever

1 Rating: 1, Useful: 3 / 9

This game is so stupid, it's sooooo little kiddish and a message to all game companies and gamers: "The stupid animation such as the unique mouse and junk has to stop, grow up" (Roller Coaster Tycoon excluded, it rocks and it's not like that!!) so don't get this, it will turn your brain into mush and you will be walkin around like an idiot.

I would give this a 0 star, but it only goes down to 1 so there!

Monopoly Tycoon is a misleading title

The game works like this: You are given ever increasingly difficult goals (eg. make x amount of dollars by the end of three years) and you build up your ability level. Sort of. It is more of a mission-driven game than a classic tycoon game, which is why I think the title is misleading.

So my critique is: It is not really a tycoon / simulation game at all. You do not get to keep the properties you build up, though you do get to pick the colors, style, and quality of the buildings - which is a little pointless given that you lose the buildings at the end of the level. The game should be cumulative - the board game certainly is. The game does have good graphics, but I find that they only mask an uncomplicated and boring game. It is really unimaginitive, and doesn't inspire creativity at all. Other tycoon games are a better bet, and I would recommend Railroad Tycoon, Roller Coaster Tycoon, or possibly Maximum Capacity: Hotel Giant, for something truly challenging and engrossing.

MT has problems on W95 platform

I bought the game the day it was released. I currently have W95 OS installed on my PC. For some reason dealing with how MT handles is copy protection file, the game will not allow me to start to play beyond the initial splash page. I have been in contact with Infogrames support over the past two weeks and they have just now realized the problem due to "a flood" of e-mails and phone calls regarding the same problem. They are working on a patch but I will have to give this game 1 star since it was not properly tested on W95 machines. What else did they not do in order to release on time?

Try it before you buy it!

Promoted as "From the people who brought you RollerCoaster Tycoon," I thought I would love this game. After going through a uninspiring tutorial and three levels, I was bored. Nothing really changes as you increase in each scenerio and I found myself completely uninterested. I'm not sure who this game is intended for, as adults will be quickly bored and it may be a bit complicated for most children. If you like RollerCoaster Tycoon, continue to enjoy it! Monopoly Tycoon is likely to tire you quickly.

I wasted my money so you don't have to

This game freezes up a lot right at start-up and even when it doesn't it takes a long time to load. You aren't able to do + + , you have to do it unsafe and I fear that this had made my computer unstable.
As if that in itself isn't a big enough nuisance, its compounded ten-fold when you are trying to attract people online for a match. By the time you reboot 5 times trying to get the game to start and your oppontents do the same, you can pretty much gaurentee that an online match rarely transpires.
As for the game play itself, its just no fun. At least in monopoly when you have your eye on some property its left up to chance with a role of the dice. On this game its all up to whomever types the fastest with the fastest internet connection. If you stop to devise a strategy, someone else hogs all the good property. This game has only one strategy: all you have to do is gobble up all the cheap real estate with one each of every business before anybody else has a chance and then monitor them to make sure you are always undercutting your opponents. You will always win because they will be stuck paying higher rent.
Finally, I was drawn towards purchasing this game because the box said you can decide how your businesses will look. Not hardly! All you get to do is choose between 20 different colors of brick shades!

whats this? a pile of dirty laundry?

What a waste

This game was a complete waste of money, the graphics were terrible and the gameplay was flat out boring, it should really cost only 5 bucks. The first day I had it I thought it was pretty cool, building cloth, food and toy stores but the game took forever to load and got jammed alot. The only reason I bought it was because I thought it was going to be like Roller Coaster Tycoon and the Sims. Dont get this game unless you try it first, my suggestion is to get RollerCoaster Tycoon, the Sims or Sim City 3000 instead.

Didn't like it at all.

I enjoy Sim games so much that I got this game for my kids last Christmas thinking they would really like it since they love Monopoly.I was wrong. This game needs a doctor because something is definitely lacking. It wasn't what I thought it would be at all.I think the fact that the challenge is a short amount of time is what was the worst aspect of it.

Too easy to beat.

Monopoly Tycoon is a continuation of the other Tycoon games. However, the levels are too easy to beat. The time clock on the game is too fast. An hour in game time takes just 30 seconds. A day is over in less than five minutes. On each level, you have to start over from scratch. You lose all of the property you bought and developed on the previous level. The best thing I can say about it is that I didn't pay too much money for it. I would recommend you find a free download and play it and save your money.
