"TIE Fighter is the best space combat game ever made." - Yes, this is true. Ahh, the good old days when LucasArts was pumping out great games like this. The only negative point is that you are fighting for the evil Empire (Boooo!) but this is handled nicely by the well constructed plot. You even get to fight alongside Vader himself. What more could you ask?

But I was disappointed that this would not play on an XP system.

One of the BEST classic games

For 10 bucks, please buy this. That is all I can say. Back in 1997 when I played this game I was HOOKED. Its not going to blow you away with amazing graphics or sound, but its star wars. It a well done game in terms of GAMEPLAY. You dogfight with imperial ships, bomb destroyers with space rockets, and so on. It's not hard to learn the controls but i HIGHLY reccommend a joystick. Its much more fun this way. You do not need a 150 dollar professional model either, grab one for 15 bucks and have a great time.

Do not expect a game of 2003, but expect to be entertained for a while!

Hope this helps!

The Unicorn

I used to own Tie Fighter a few years back with floppy disks were the hip thing. I had the game on good ol 486 33mhz and it was awesome, i coudltn get enough, however i had to format the computer and upon reinstalling, one of the disks had warped. I went to get another copy of the game, which was inadvertantly sold out. They never got another shipment, and i dont know anyone with the game, so i can no longer play it or even see it! Unfortunatley amazon is only shipping it within the US so living in Australia, i apparantly have no claim to the game that i have longed so desparatley for, so it remains my unicorn, unattainable. However the game is sheer quality and outlives its age, and as a starwars lover, i give the game a fitting 98/100 on my rating scale, (-2 because i dont have it).

I had this baby when it was in 3.5" disks, and I loved it (after some time one disk get damaged and actually I lost the game).
Now, enhanced for Win 9x you don't have to worry for configurating audio or damaged disks, It just play excellent and with the 3D add you get better graphics. It just couldn't be better.

by far. It's perfect. You get awsome gameplay, Awsome graphics (considering the game's age..), and tons of fun. This is the best space-war sim i've ever played. This is the best Star Wars game i've ever played. If you get any game, get this one.

The Empire Needs You!

For anyone who always rooted for the Empire this is the game for you. Stormtroopers may not be able to hit the broadside of a barn but pilots can. Seriously it's a great game that I wish they would totally update with a follow up release.

I was not impressed with the product, it was too old to play on the new computers.

One of the true all-time greats

Along with such games as X-COM: UFO Defense and Civilization 2, a true classic. Why is is one of the greatest games of all time? One very simple reason. The graphics don't make the game good, the GAME-PLAY makes the game good. You get to be the bad guy, and that's always cool.
If you haven't played it, you are missing out on alot. I first played in on my big old 486 25 MHz with a whopping 8 Meg of RAM. I still have it loaded on my newest system, a 1.5 GHz 256 Meg system, with a video card that has 4 times the amount of my system RAM on that first computer.

If only . . .

I absolutely loved this game back when it was released. Sadly, it won't function with my current operating system (this is even true for some of my newest Lucas Arts software purchases). Tie Fighter, as I recall, had fun missions, sneaky side missions (usually for the Emperor), and plenty of dogfighting. How I wish Lucas Arts would join with Microsoft to create an updated version with multplayer capability (no online pay-for-play Bantha Poodoo). Why Microsoft? Because most of their old games still run on my PC. Why would that be, hmmm?
