Only Eastern Front

3 Rating: 3, Useful: 5 / 6

Not like the first and second version of this series, PG 3 only guves you the estern front. So no Normandy, no Battle of Bulge. This makes the whole game a little bit short than it should be and reduce the possible fun this game should be.

On the other hand, the experience and command system is very good idea to reflect not just the machine, but the man who commend the unit to make the record good or bad.

Good for casual WW2 war game players. I believe most of the players are focus on the real-time games right now.

This was my first PG video game, but about my eigth that I have been searching for to quell my desire to be a general and use my brains to do something similar to what they did in WW2. PG does that! I find it fairly accurate and a lot of fun. What could have been done to make it more challenging, fun and realistic would be to take into account supply and logistics. Guderion, nor Karhkov, could just click a mouse and wait a turn to be completely refitted! Maybe the next PG, PG4, they will! docv

Achtung panzers! Forward to battle.

I have been playing this game for about 5 years now and still do enjoy it. It gives a realistic feeling to the battles on the eastern front from a strategic point of view.
The only problems I had was the Rostov scenario was not operational. In the scenario builder versions, the Russians seem to run out of steam as to quality fighting units as they are destroyed by the Germans. This was not the case in real life. The T-34's just kept on coming. I also wish that the player had more control over what weaponsry he could choose from in the scenario builder much like in PGII. This is a dated review. I would hope that SSI would update and make a new game.

ALMOST PERFECT

I like this game because it fixed the big problems of its predecessor PG3D Assault. Firstly, it only costs 1 slot for any unit regardless of experience level. This means I no longer have to put up with ridiculous 3 to 1 or even 5 to 1 odds.

Secondly, the crashes when I ambush the computer are gone.

The units also are better animated than before. Now, you see things like tanks traversing their turrets towards their targets to fire.

However, this game creates new headaches. I don't like the numerous exit-this-many-units-off-the-map-by-8turns or you lose scenarios. They are unrealistic. I don't know of any real WW2 battle where something like this had to be done. The time table for these operations are also way too short.

This game is also stingier than PG3D Assault in giving out promotions and extra roster slots.

This game is definitely superior to PG3D Assault.

Also, I wish it had more hypothetical US/Allies vs. Communists battles.

If you like military, choose this one!

It's not a typical online WWII or shooting game, but the one that you play with computer enemy. It has turns limit, and you can control several units including tank, infantry, artillery, fighter, etc. The scene is 3D, but I recommend Panzer General 2 more. Because in PG2 there are at least 5 countries, however in PG3 you can only choose Soviet Union or Germany.

Took a lot of getting used to

By now, the General game engine is getting old and dry, but that doesn't mean I don't still enjoy it. Panzer General III takes this game engine to an entirely new level. Being able to hire and promote leaders to give units a certain attribute boost is a great addition to an already satisfying game. I can't give a full 5 stars on this one, though, because the same game engine is being used that SSI has used for all of it's previous General titles. I happen to like that game engine, but this one also took a lot more getting used to. The learning curve, even for someone who has already mastered most of the previous titles, was quite steep.

No hot seat mutiplayer!

The game has great graphics and sound, but too many bugs that can't be corrected by patches. And no hot seat multiplayer, it REALLY needs that option. Another thing that bugs me (ha ha) is that in the battle maker you can't change the placement of victory locations. Also it can be disappointing to not be able to play your 3 player game except on the internet. Still PGIII is a big improvement over Panzer General 2 in that in PGII the only way to win is to take over all the victory locations or destroy all the enemy's units. In PGIII there are 4 ways to win, which really adds to the flavor of the game.

Not worth the price!

The game is full of strategy which is fun. The game is geared toward experienced players. This is not a game for kids younger than 15-16yrs. due to the complicated aspects of the game. I found glitches in the C.D. which frustrates the player.

Damaged Disk

The seller claimed that this disk worked but it looks like it was run through a washing machine. I was unable to run it so I can't give a review. I suggest you buy it new and save yourself some time and consider the extra money well spent.

A waste of time and money

As an avid fan of PG2 and still love to play the game, even with the advent of x-box and the other console games. I was hoping that this game would live up to my much beloved PG2.

I was sadly mistaken, this game SUCKS! I even upgraded my video card to handle it and what a waste. I played it once and yeah the graphics are cool, but the game is slow and has nothing of the depth and features of PG2.

Im staying with PG2 and thinking of selling my game to some sucker on EBAY.
