Wow - Amazing

If you like WW2 flight sims, nothing compares to this game. I still cant get over how beautiful the grafx in this game are. There are many planes to chose from, lots that you dont see in other flight sims. The negative reviews were right about the imposibly accurate AI, but those issues and others have been addressed in a patch. Also, a free addon will be released that add's even more planes. I see its currently listed for [$$], for that price you cant go wrong. I paid [more], and considered it a bargain price for the fine piece of software. Oh yeah, online gaming is great fun too, and the single missions and pilot career gives almost unlimited replay value.

I bought this sim. I find it to be the best one yet! Yes it is difficult, but I play it often. You might want to adjust it to suit you. I added external views and automatic engine controls.
I'm running a campaign now and its really addicting. My system is a ecs L7s7a2 mainboard, 2 different sticks of 256meg DDR ram a amd xp2100 processor and a chaintech nvidia fx5200 128 meg agp video card. The controler is a logitech usb wingman flight stick. It stutters once in a while, but I have several background apps running. I only get about 5 victories in 20 missions. I love the challenge. I have ms combat flight sims, but haven't bothered to put them on this system.

Puts CombatFlightSimulator to shame

quite simply, a must have for anyone with a hi-end machine that wants the finest in flight sims. online combat and coop scene is OFF THE HOOK and usually really active and friendly. I bought the original IL2 and didnt expect to really play it too much, it ended up being the single most played game of 2002 for me. play it in OpenGL and crank up the details and drink it in. the level of detail is unreal. the netcode is perfect and stable and mature. i cant say it enough.

This game makes Microsoft and microprose sims look like highschool science projects.

THE BEST FLIGHT SIM EVER MADE!!!!!!!!!!!!

I LOVE THIS GAME!!! It is by far the best flight sim ever made. I would even say that it is the best computer game ever made. The graphics are just amazing. It looks like real life at times. There are so many planes in this game. No other flight sim has had this many planes before. A good number of these planes have never been modeled in a flight sim to date. The historical accuracy is unbelievable, even down to the bombs and rockets, which there are many different kinds in this game. Every aspect of this game has been researched in the history books and replicated on the computer. The detail is mind-blowing. We need more games like this. I have read the other reviewers talk about the computer AI being too hard, and that they are having a hard time with the AI gunners shooting them down. They all need to go wash out their vaginas. You will love this game. That I PROMISE!!! If you visit the official website for IL2, you will find some of the best on-line support for a computer game. This game will keep growing with another future release that will add even more planes and maps. I predict that IL2 will be around for a long time, so you had better get a copy and see what it is all about. If you want to get as close to real WWII combat as possible and still have fun, then IL2 Forgotten Battles is for you. CHECK IT OUT!!!!!

The best kept secret in the flight sim community

This is the best combat flight simulator ever made!

I agree it does make the Microsoft Flight simulators and any other flight sim look like high school science projects!!

This game builds upon the previous champ of the combat flight sim market the IL2-Sturmovik..

The programmers of this game and a gentleman by the name of Oleg Maddox (u will become quite familiar with this name soon!) have put their life and soul into this product.. This is not just a vehicle to make money like Combat Flight Simulator 3 this is a work of art to put it simply..

These gentlemen have enriched my life with their product. I am now part of a Canadian squadron the RCAF 401 ([url]) and fly online with my squadron mates on Hyperlobby.. To say we have fun is an understatement.. The competition online is fantastic as is the gameplay of this product.. I've been playing the predecessor to this game (IL2 Sturmovik) online for almost 2 years now almost every chance I get.. My wife is ready to throw me out of the house!

It's difficult to express how well the game looks and feels when you are playing it. The only way to compare it would be to go back to 1944 and jump into an ME262 Schwalbe and take a spin.. Then you could compare!

If you don't believe me hop over to the development site and take a look at the screenshots from the game.. U can visit the site at [url]

Even novices can learn this game when the difficulty level is taken down. U can even go invincible! You can also slow down the time down too! When you get good enough to compete with live opponents jump online and gove me a try.. My callsign is:

#401Cdn.GATOR

The best joystick to play this game (IMHO) is Microsoft Force Feedback 2.. (see? I am not biased when Microsoft does something good I'll tout it..).. I also have purchased USB rudder pedals from ChPro to add to the realism and enhance my online competitiveness..

With 3rd party voice communications software you and your squadron mates can fly together as a team and cover each other's sixes..

There doesn't pass a day that I learn something new about this game and how to fly my fav plane (Me109) better.. That's what's amazing is the depth of this game.. You can play it for a year and still find new things to explore and better ways to improve ur flying..

This is a game for teenagers and adults. In fact most of the people you'll find online are in their thirties and forties..

This is not a game.... This is a way of life...

Best Regards,

#401Cdn.GATOR

P.S. Buy this game and check your six!!

FANTASTIC! THIS YEARS BEST!

What a program, if you want a real feel experience this is it. When the anti aircraft rounds from surface ships rip through your plane, you can almost feel it. With 30 flyable aircraft, there is nothing that really compares too Forgotten Battles. If you are trying to decide between another Combat Flight Simulator or this one, GET THIS ONE! Trust me.

Just got this game yesterday. In my opinion this is the best flight sim out there. Lock on due out in June 2003 may top IL2 forgotten battles, but since it deals with a different time period, I know I will be flying both of them for quite sometime.

Finally get to fly my favorite plane with a cockpt the Me-262. The Me-262 does not like big throttle response in this game or the engines will catch on fire lol. I'll bet this plane is pretty realistic regarding WW2 technology. Got to be really careful flying it, but the full cockpit version was worth the wait. It kills anything in the air with a good pilot behind the controls.

Love the new maps also and online play.

No flight sim tops this game right now.

This game (or simulation or whatever) is the very best of the genre. The graphics are not only amazing, they are carefully researched to be completely accurate in their representation of WWII planes.

Although it takes a fairly muscular system to run this game with all the graphics turned up, it is so good that it alone is a reason to dump your old system and buy a new one.

My rating would have been five stars but for one minor irritant. The latest upgrade patch is gigantic (over 80 MB), and yet I can find no evidence that UBI Soft will provide a CD ROM disk for this patch. This is a real problem for those of us who live where a high-speed internet connection is unavailable or unaffordable. I would gladly pay a nominal fee for a CD ROM patch if they would just offer one.

But make no mistake. My game ran flawlessly out of the box and was worth twice what I paid for it at full retail, which is more than I can say for many other high-end simulations I have purchased.

Crash & Burn

I've been flying the original IL-2 since it came out, and it's a great game, so I was looking forward to getting Forgotten Battles. I wish I'd forgotten the whole idea. This game is a real clunker unless you have a cutting edge system to run it on. Just loading a single mission takes five minutes, and even with the graphics turned down to the bare bones it runs like a slide show. My system is a AMD 1gb with Nvidia GeForce 2MX/MX 400 so while its no longer top flight it's not exactly bottom rung either. I'll keep the game to use when I can afford a better system, but be aware that you may be in for problems if you don't have a serious new system to run it on.

This game is 90% hype and 10% graphics. Highly overrated and very demanding of system resources. Be prepared to tweak your system to suit this game, and if it adversely affects other games - too bad. The sound is the worst I've ever heard even at that. CFS3 is FAR superior in that area. And, you will need to turn your sound hardware acceleration down just to avoid bugs. There is no "runway" selection for free flights. You can only start in the air. So you can't test various planes. Graphics are unmatched, though. Lots of eye candy if you have the hardware for it and you tweak your system properly.
