I was eagerly awaiting HH Baseball for PS2. I have owned previous versions for the PC. I was disappointed for the most part. The game play is okay, but the graphics were not good compared to the other available entries (TP, ASB). Part of the reason to buy the PS2 was the improved graphics, but this game would "glitch" at times and generally seem to struggle to move to new frames within the game. I am a big fan of the "little things" in a game. There were no dugouts - the players head for the stands then disappear. The Cinergy field graphics were completely wrong. The players were very cartoon-like. I am also interested in the team management aspect of a game. Their are no minor-leagues, nor could I find disabled lists. The announcers will describe the home team's stadium, then they describe the opposing team's stadium like the announcer does not really know where the game is being played. This game is not a total disaster, but being just average was a big let down to me on this one. I think it could have been much better. Based on my experience I would rate the baseball games as follows: 1)All-Star Baseball 2)High Heat Baseball 3)Triple Play I have found all 3 titles lacking - but I enjoy playing ASB the best.

pretty easy

This game is really easy to get good at. Took me about one game to beat the computer and my average score is 22 to 0. I pitched a no hitter in the third game, so if u want a more challenging game dont get this one!!!

I will never buy another edition of High Heat.

I just bought this game because I needed a baseball game for PS2 and I'm a big Guerrero fan. Oh, how I was disappointed. The game play is actually pretty good. I like the fact that there's no cursor for batting. It really feels like it takes some baseball knowledge to play, as you have to guess kind of pitch and location, which I actually got pretty good at after playing about 20 games. However, this doesn't overshadow the many cons of the game.
There are a laundry list of problems with the game. The scenes where the players walk to the plate is choppy. The dugouts are empty. Sometimes when you hit a homerun it looks like the guy is running across the plate from the first base side. The pitcher is choppy when throwing a pitch, and after throwing a pitch he goes straight back to his original stance, so he'll go instantly from crouching forward in front of the rubber after a pitch to standing on the rubber with no transition. The batter goes from the end of his swinging motion right back to his original stance (pretty much the same as the complaint about the pitcher). The umpires spin around as the "camera" spins around them, which looks stupid, but not as stupid as the fact that they have faces on both sides of their head. If the camera is rotating and you are pressing forward, your player runs in circles, because the controls are in relation to the view on the screen. I know there's more, but I don't have all day.
The problems seemed insignificant at first, but they pile up quickly and become very irritating. The game play is good, I don't know why 3DO had to cheap out when it came to touching up all the graphics parts of the game. The most irritating part is that the problems would have been easily fixable with a little bit of work. It's not like they were major bugs in the game. Neglecting these problems just looks like laziness on the part of 3DO, and it is that fact that will lead me to buy All-Star Baseball when the 2003 baseball games come out.

Could have been a LOT better!!

I don't have much to say about this game other than it has the worst possible graphics of all baseball games I've ever played. The gameplay is good, but the graphics is very poor. When I pitch, I like to have a pithcer's camera on, and when you take a look at the catcher, it's pityful. All the time he is half-standing and half-sitting. This is bull. I only give this game 2 stars for gameplay.

If graphics is impportant for you, buy an All-Stat baseball. Game.

I hope that High Heat 2003 is going to be better.

Good Baseball, Not-So-Good Graphics

I was amazed by the graphics of Triple Play Baseball on PS2. I was dismayed by the gameplay. On the easy setting, the game was a joke-not at all realistic. On the normal setting, with the computer-assisted control feature turned off, I couldn't seem to get the players to do what I wanted them to do. Just me? Or was it the pressure-sensitive controls? I don't know and it doesn't matter-I took the game back and picked up High Heat. This is a much better game for those who want to experience a more realistic baseball simulation. Everything TPB didn't have in the control department, HH has. It's fun and it will satisfy the MLB fan in anyone. The only problem is the graphics, which, for a PS2 game are somewhat...disappointing. Knowing that quality graphics and incredible gameplay are possible in a PS2 baseball game, we just have to wait for them to come together in the same game.

High Heat is High Quality!

High Heat 2002 for the Psx2 is a great baseball title. While it's not perfect, it's a sure winner for those who want to stray away from the arcade-homerun heavy games like Triple Play from EA.

The game is heavy on the simulation. Everything is very realistic--down to players arguing calls and mound visits to the low run scoring games. Pither vs batter is done well where tough pitchers are tough to hit and not-so great pitchers will be somewhat easier to go up against.

While this game is one of the best baseball titles out in the market, it does have its bad side. First, being on the Psx2, you'd figure awesome graphics, animation, and sound--not here. The graphics are Psx1 quality, the sound is so-so (with poor play-by-play and sound effects) and the animation is far from being great. Stat tracking is not that great either. The main thing I found missing in this game is a batting practice or homerun derby to work on your hitting. Hitting in this game is not easy and there is no option or feature to practice your swings.

With the minor flaws in the game, this is still the best baseball title made for those who want the simulation-type of baseball game.

Soooo close to perfection

My first review, so please...be gentle. This is really an awesome simulation of baseball. The box score is just jaw-dropping. The graphics may not be the best, but theres more important things than graphics. Besides, the marquee players are clearly detectable by their stances. So why doesnt it get 5 stars you say? Because for some odd reason, my closer doesnt get credit for saves, anyone else having this problem?

Best Baseball Game.

This is the best console baseball game ever. Period. For the first time since Baseball Stars for the NES, realism matters. If you don't remember Baseball Stars, shame on you, buy this game.

Bad graphics and a lack of realism ruin this game.

To begin, let me just say that I don't understand why people think that this game is so good. Firstly, the graphics are extremely poor when you consider the power of the PS2. Even given the most advanced graphics engine on the planet, 3DO still managed to make this game's graphics look like an old 16-bit cartrige. In addition, this game lacks realism. The fielders take forever to reach the ball, even when it is just grounded to the shortstop. Also, it is impossible to warm up pitchers or locate any pitches with any accuracy at all. Overall, if you are looking for a great baseball game for the PS2, go with Triple Play Baseball. It has better graphics, a better pitching engine, and the fielders stay awake. This game was a huge disappointment.
