Don't believe the hype

I played this game at E3 and it was horrible. It was the only game in its area of the show without a line of people waiting to play it. Unless it's revamped by Titus before its release date, I would recommend staying away from this thing. It needs major, major work. It's kind of a bummer because I'm a big Top Gun fan and thought this would be a great game on PS2.

For real action and excitement try Ace Combat 4. Top Gun "Combat Zones" is not worth the money. I do admit the graphics are better than AC4, but the playability does not even deserve to be in the same class as AC4.

This game is no where near as good as Ace Combat 4. I might have kept the game if not for one glaring flaw. It will not remember your choice of control setup. There are 4 to choose from. It will remember the setup on the memory card but once you change to a different mission it reverts to the default setup. This should never have gotten by the beta tester. Who ever they are, fire them. Bombing could have been handled better. When you switch to bombs you are switched to a 3rd person view. I found it impossible to fly the aircraft in this view. An arrow that points to your selected target would have been helpful but instead you just get a left/right arrow. With some proper testing and tweaking this really could have been an adequate game. But as it stands I would stay away from it. I wouldn't even buy it in the bargain bin...

This game would be alright if the controls were better. The analog is very confusing....you'll probably get it after 2 YEARS!!!...NOT...it is hard and the graphics are good, the turning is the difficult part, if you're not used to using the rudders with L1 and R1, then don't buy this game!!!
The analog controls going up and down and barrel rolls.

Graphics, gameplay, and options are very poor..I bought this game because I loved ACE Combat 4...Had high hopes but was very disappointed...Avoid! If you want a great fighter sim buy ACE Combat 4..

I was so excited when top gun came out I rushed out and bought it the day of its release.What a mistake. Imust admit the graphics and detail to landscapes are impressive but the actual realtime play is confusing. One huge example, when you kick in the afterburners to chase a bogey or escape enemy fire or missles or rockets may involuntarily launch and/or the screen will change. for example if you are in the cockpit you may instantly be viewing your fighter from different angles outside of the plane. I give 3 stars for graphics and special fxs. Better luck next time Titus

At first like all games I couldn't stop playing it. But after a couple days it didn't appeal to me. Now I haven't played it in over 4 months but the game play is vair. It has good controls but wrecks your r2 button cause you have to use that button alot. So no it dosen't work that well. Go ahead and try the game you might like it.

All this game has going for it is the graphics and the name. Too bad it has absolutly nothing to do with the movie. This game is garbage....get Ace Combat 4!

The release date in nj was oct. 28 . this game is really awesome i got it yesterday and havent stopped playing it yet. the only problem i have with this game is mastering the controls the game play and plot is really good . i think its one of the best games for ps2 yet .

I don't know if this game could be closer to my dreams!
I am a big fan of the movie, and even if this game is not following the movie story, IT IS FANTASTIC!
I have played it every day since a week with all my friends, and everybody likes it, even my dad (that crashes his fighter because he flies too low!).
One of my best friend has Ace Combat for Playstation2, and he says he will resell it very soon to buy Top Gun!
