A Good Game

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 7 / 9

This game is pretty fun, but it has quite a few problems also. The directions are really hard to understand. You do a whole lot of message taking and little favors for your Hobbit-freinds in the game. The battles are very tedious-even if your guys can hit thier target. There are about three guys on the game that can hit a target consistently. You can't use the Bows in batlle mode.

The game glitches up in the Old Forest when you try to help a lady with spiders in her house. The game also glitches up in Moria quite a few times, but you can go to the game's website and it'll tell you how to get around the glitches.

But, the game follows the books very well. It skips some of the more monotonous areas of the book, but then it makes the areas you play VERY TEDIOUS!

I liked the game a lot though. The plot is engaging, and I found it very hard to put the game down. It is definitly a strategy game. I liked the fact that there is always some kind of mission you're on. The ending SUCKS!

Even after all of the bad things, it is a fun game. One strategy I use is to save very often, since it gets boring when you get stuck and have to beat it again from where you saved an hour ago.

They forgot to quality test! This game is bugged!

First of all, the movement of characters is odd. It's not something you get used to. They dont turn when you want them to. They seem to go at odd angles causing serious frustration and tedium.

Half the stuff in the instructions was not implemented in game. You get a little card saying "spell scrolls don't exist, instead just use gandalf's staff to cast the same spell" and "many items in game have been replaced with other items."

The box says non-linear roleplaying game. What you get instead are parts in the game (without warning) where you just can't go back. You begin a quest then can't complete it because you walked to far left... suddenly you can't return to the quest giver. If you'd even call them quests.

Characters seem to level up at random. Battles ARE slow. Imagine fighting a spider that attacks you, then steps back 50 feet. Then steps forward 50 feet to attack again. Etc until you fall asleep. And the battles are few and far between. I got 14hrs into the 20 hrs of gameplay before freezing and only fought maybe 25 battles?

Now onto the bugs. This company must have done no testing for this game at all. One bug takes you beneath the world, you simply disapear. One part in Moria, the game freezes and you simply can't go on. And I've read posts of other spots (Rivendel for one). Black Label tech support will offer you a solution worthy of the meanest multy button mortal combat combo. I think I'll take a refund instead.

Now onto other things. You only get maybe 3 armor upgrades per character in this game. Merchants dont have much to sell. The game is short. Character developement is shameful for a so-called RPG.

Black Label should have at least tried to copy Golden Sun. If you want an excellent RPG that offers a true non-linear game where char developement takes time, battles are plentiful, spells are actuallly in the game, with better graphics and spell effects, and normal character movement, then get Golden Sun. FOTR for GBA is a joke. I will never buy a Black Label or Vevindi game again. They should have put 1/1000th the effort that was put in the books at least to make a nameworthy game. Instead they released an incomplete, untested mess.

What a piece of ...

This had such potential to be a great game. Unfortunately, the lack of a decent fighting system and the overabundance of bugs ruined it. I am a true fan of the LoTR series, and I can barely stand this game. The battle system is way too slow. You have to wait for each character to walk over to the enemy, make their attack, then walk back. This becomes extremely annoying after a while. The fact that you don't even gain experience from the battles is a further bother. It seems to level you up at set points in the game for each character. The bugs in this game are overwhelming. You can't even get thru the mines of Moria without running into a game stopping bug. The company has provided a way around it by saving before you enter, but it is still a bother. That is not the extent of the bugs either, they are all over the place. This game was obviously rushed and distributed to make an extra buck, and not to produce a high quality game. It is not worth what I payed for it at all. Other reviews say that only true fans of the series can enjoy this game, which is not true. I consider myself a true fan, and this is a terrible game.

As a Lord of the Rings fan i was excited about the upcoming Game be Vivendi Universal. You can play as any part of the company of the ring, from the first book, " Fellowship of the Ring". The game follows the book very well, but the gameplay is a different story. In many areas you get stuck and find that the only way to get out of being stuck is by restarting the game. If you are willing to play, and play to finish the game, then you might find this a good game. The graphic are alright compared to others and you may find that it seems to have a dark tint. If you are a fan of the book you will enjoy this game, if not, i sugjest finding a different game to play

Hey give it some credit, listen to me.

So far this game hasn't received any credit, well not much.
To start off the graphics are good, and the sound is good too.
I haven't seen one glitch yet, I'm sorry. The battles are some what slow, but you have to admit that it is cool to have an invitory and equipping items. If you find glitches, return your game! My game is fine, and I'm past Moria. You can switch your characters, that is a really cool option. But the osund goes away in battles sometimes, thats not so fun. I like to have energy in my battles, but the battles are slow. That's why this game got a 7 out of 10. O' and I'm 14 years old, I'm just not signed up with Amazon. Fun game for younger kids.

GRAPHICS: 8 out of 10
SOUND: 6 out of 10
GAMEPLAY: 7 out of 10

It's okay.

This is an okay game. There are two reasons why I didn't like this game.
1.The game flow is WAY too slow.
2.It is not challenging.

All in all if you really want to try this game, rent it before you buy it. I Would rather play something else. However I do recommmendThe Two Towers and the Return of the King Games. They're alot better than this!

Don't buy this game

This game has so many glitches you lose count. I have had to start the entire game over 4 times because of them. The controls are sluggish, at best. Save your money or get a game that you can actually enjoy. It is definitely NOT this one.

Horrible Game

This game is boring. You can't follow the story line, and if I hadn't read the books I would not understand it at all. The fight scenes take too long and they are also boring. In the mines of Moria there is this one place where you have to go but you get stuck because the game has a bug. The controls are extremely weird and take a long time to get used to. I have bought this game and I do not like it. I would suggest not buying it.

True, There Are Glitches

There are glitches in this game that make it crash (literally freeze). I knew about the glitches right before I bought the game. But, with the help of a friend who played LOTR: FOTR before, he showed me how to avoid the glitches by either saving the game before I came upon one or by switching characters. Its simple! Do these two methods at certain points in the game, and you'll be glitch-free. It worked for me. Anyway: I think that LOTR: FOTR is a pretty good game for the GBA. Its not the best game I've played for it, but its pretty darn good! The action is slow, but exciting; game-play is solid; and the graphics are great while the sound-quality could have been better but isn't too bad at all. If you like RPG games then I highly recommend that you buy LOTR: FOTR! Trust me: you'll love it if you are an RPG gaming fan. If not, Oh well.
