OK Demo

The demo looks ok, but you didn't see much of DS9 in it, and on Elite Force you get to be on a starship. If you want a really cool Star Trek game that actually has a good story to it play Elite Force.

Star Trek Game

This game wasn't quite what I expected it to be. The game is not as user friendly as the Elite Force and other Star Trek games I have played. The graphics are slow and hang up from time to time which makes game play harder. I know for a fact it is not my graphics card. I think the technology is just older. Graphics were nice and there were cool features of the game. Just not quite what I expected.

Cool star trek game, but aggravating

This game is cool in that it resembles star trek details pretty well (including some actual actor voice-overs), but it is very aggravating when it comes to completing the missions. It is extremely easy to get lost...if you have little patience, this probably isn't the game for you.

Looks Good So Far

Wow, this game looks awesome. From each website I've visited the plot and storyline look really interesting. Its based on the first episode of a multi-part DS9 storyline, The Millennium Saga - will intertwine threads between the playable characters, Sisko, Kira or Worf. You'll be searching for three Red Orbs, ancient relics with amazing powers that various factions inside - and outside - the Federation would like to get their hands on. I know that each playable character is used for different missions and the graphics for the game are awesome as well. The game just looks really cool and I know that when its available I definitely will buy it.

Better than Elite Force

I have played Star Trek Elite Force and when I saw this game come out I thought it was going to be just another Elite Force.

I was pleasantly surprised that the programmers have taken some care to put in elements in the game that really MAKE it a Star Trek experience. For example the Tricorder. When I play the game I actually spend most of the time using it. When I beam into a new site for the first time it is the first thing I am compelled to use. The tricorder is important because it helps you locate objects you need and allows you to scan for shield modulation frequencies so that you can penetrate enemy shields- very important for your survival.

Because of this the game creates an authentic Star Trek experience that Elite Force lacks- I felt like a starfleet officer doing things a starfleet officer would do! Elite Force on the otherhand made me feel like a Quake player running around in a Star Trek universe.

The game is solidly built. Nice rendering. Projective shadows help add to the mood. Good music- but missing the original DS9 theme. No problem just swap their MP3 with the correct one :)

The biggest thrill was running around Ops and the Promenade. It really gives you a new perspective on what DS9 was really like. (Make sure to look for the fish bowl on the promenade- a nice touch).

The game is more difficult than I expected- even on the first level. I guess authenticity gets in the way sometimes. But fortunately cheats are well documented online- so no worries there.

The only reason I give it a 4 out of 5 is that this is basically a Quake/UnReal game.

Great Game: Serious Warnings

I. This is what old fashioned single-player gaming used to be about. The Fallen avoids the temptation that Elite Forces gave into and gives us not a frag-fest but uses the Unreal Tournament to deliver a story. This feels much more like Vampire: Redemption and the Thief Games than the Quake/Unreal engines which run it. Not that Frag-fest games aren't an outstanding way to pass the time but DS9 really demanded more of this sort of gameplay.

II. Appreciation aside there are SERIOUS technical problems. Check out the Official website's discussion board to get an overview, but briefly the game, despite the 3dFX participation has a real bad time with GLIDE hardware, and often it will not recognize D3D mode either. One can usually work around the GLIDE and D3D problems by using the OPEN GL mode and installing the 2 patches (One of which is 32 meg: That is TOO big for a patch in my opionin it feels much more like a flawed retail product that needed more work). Also if you are using a Diamond MX 400 there are additional audio tweaks you will need to make to get the sound to work properly.

III. In conclusion this is a great game but I'm getting the feeling that they rished it out the door to make Christmas sales deadlines and the game was simply not ready for retail release (I know they missed 1 release date as it was). Hopefully future support will address these serious problems.

Good game even for non-Trekkie types like me

"The Fallen" is a very solid game. I've played 2 of the 3 character missions, and really enjoy the story. The game looks terrific, as it should since it is using the Unreal engine, but I like the tweak of the over-the-shoulder camera. I also like the real differences between Worf and Kira, both in terms of weapons and in terms of tasks.

I was also surprised, as an amateur musician, at the quality of the soundtrack, which may be the best game music I've ever heard. My only real quibble with the game was that the missions were more of the same "fetch that object, and take it there" that this genre seems to rely on. I did like the overall story, however, and there are a couple of good twists, although they are not particularly difficult to guess.

All in all a terrific game, even if, like me, you are not a huge Star Trek fan. Final note: this game has actually got me interested in Deep Space 9 shows...

Good game, although some of the cast if different

I just got this game and it's pretty good. To get the most out of it, it is recommended that you play each of the characters. The only disappointment I found so far is the fact that Avery Brooks didn't provide the voice of Captain Sisko, and also that Colm Meaney didn't provide the voice of O'Brien. What is the deal with that? Are the two of them finished with the series and never want to look back on it?

Anyway, it is a good game with plenty of action. The artwork is out of this world as well. Many previous "Star Trek" games have been disappointing, but this one rates up there with "Elite Force" and "Armada". Get it. It's worth it.

A game that uses the unreal tournament engine indeed!

I never new that this game even existed until I got it with star trek ds9 dominion wars, I got its jewel case so.The fallen is a
puzzling, 3rd person mystery adventure good game. And it uses the glorious unreal tournament engine to pack in all the action to make in this game!!!It really has good graphics.Great gameplay.Good sounds, good music, Excellent graphics, oh and this is the first ut engine game to use projected volumetric shadows, but unlike in jk2(jediknigh2), it doesn't slow down the framerate!!!!But, there are some downs about it! One of the downs is the puzzling ALMOST impossible levels!Although the AI is normal, good.Fair enough!I reccomend a shiny NEW pentium 2 400mhrz with a 16mb 3d accelerator video card, the memory should not me shared and directly for it.I reccomend 128mb ram, that is required for most games these days, but for the really high tech ones, 256mb ram is reccomended.I also reccomend a high end good a3d directxcompatible or eax high end directx compatible sound card! And I reccomend 600mb of harddrive space for complete installation!!!And sci-fi star trek unreal fan is a must get this game!Just buy it!Enjoy it!I reccomend it!Your welcome!!!ps.I also reccomend directx7 of higher!!!!

By far, one of the best Trek games out there

The StarTrek gaming franchise has produced many lackluster games in the past. I remember shelling out for the likes of games StarTrek: Borg when it came out, and being disapointed. However, DS9: The Fallen came out in a time where Trek games where being made that had more redeeming values (like Voyager: Elite Force). And although "The Fallen" wasn't openly advertised as much as many other games, it really is a gem in the long lived line of Trek games.
The Fallen storyline fits right in with the DS9 continuity as an untold chapter of the DS9 saga. Before the Federation took control of the station, the Cardassians were experimenting with a red Orb in a secret area of the station, when an accident happened. Years later, both the Cardassians and an Bajoran cult are after all three red Orbs, which are rumored by legend to be able to open a wormwhole to free the Pagh'Wraiths (those nasty beings that are the enemies of the Prophets).
An interesting point in the game is that you can play as one of three characters, and while you get differnent missions, you basically see the same story from three points of view: that of Captian Sisko, Major Kira, and Worf.
This game really is a solid 3D shooter, and even the Tridorder was worked into the game effectively (so much so that while playing other 3D shooters, I'd be wishing I had my Tricorder to tell my what else is out there). The selection of weapons is pretty good, and the overall gameplay is excelent. Another point I'd like to make is the music. The moody tunes really help add the the eerie atmosphere you're often in on alien worlds or prision camps.
The levels are set in some pretty cool places. As a fan of the show, it feels like they came up with a list of cool places a fan would like to play a game in, and worked them convincingly into the game. Somehow, the dressed up the Defiant as good level (while basing it on the official blueprints of the ship), you'll be running around parts of the station as well, you have to break out of a Dominion prision camp, invade a Cardassion base, and my favorite, find the entrance to a partially sunken Federation starship that's crashed on a planet. All of which are well done levels.
On the downside, Avery Brookes aparently was unwilling or unable to supply the voice for Captain Sisko, so there's another actor doing a less-than-convicing Sisko imitation. There's also no multiplayer options in this game either.
All in all, I think this is an excellent game. Heck, it could be written into a good episode of the show itself.
And at this price, it a great deal.
