Wow - what a game!!!

I am glad to have picked this up this past weekend. I am a huge fan of AoE2 and this one has quickly become my fave. I love the look of everything. The ships, troops, buildings and the landscapes are all realistic to the SW world. This is a must have for gamers who love Star Wars. The only downside is that the civs included do not occur simultaneously in SW canon. That issue aside there's nothing wrong with the game. Even though I was familiar with the system I played the training campaign (the Wookies) - it was great. I can't wait to get the Clone Campaign add on.

Fun, but ......

This game is really fun and if you like age of kings or Age of Empires you like this game. The only thing bad about this game is that the graphics are not the best. The missions are pretty simple. It is not a tuff game but it is enjoyable! It is at a good price because you can get to play with the Royal Naboo and lots more. And if you don't like the missions that are listed you can create your own!It is Action filled!!

Just like Age o' Kings

Many people say that Battlegrounds is too much like AOK. But I like it that way it's like Star Wars Monopoly they are exactly the same but with a Star Wars twist. By the way, The CLONE CAMPAIGNS exspansion makes this game twice as good. I would HIGHLY recomend both to you.

So Repetitive!

StarWars: Galatic Battlegrounds is a great PC game, however not the best StarWars game on the PC, not by a longshot. However the game is very easy to get into. You can play the scenarios or create your own where you can add characters from the movie. The sound effects are straight from the movie, there are a lot of characters from the expanded universe of StarWars which you may have to reference from the StarWars website for more background info on them. The cons of the game come from the feeling of "been there, done that," especially if you've played Age of Empires or Age of Kings to death. The gameplay becomes too repetitive and the replay value goes straight to hell. But it's a good game just realize that one day it's going to end up on the shelf with the rest of the games you've long since stopped playing.

Don't take this game too seriously...

Wow! Great idea, poor execution. Using the Age of Empires engine was a good idea, but the designers missed out on a lot of the potential, and decided to just slap together a bunch of units. While it's great fun to use R-2 units to gather my resources, I couldn't help but wonder why I had to gather food and build houses for my little droids. There are plenty of other flaws like this one that make this game stand out as not much more than Age of Kings with some new graphics.

Still, its an imaginative game, and if you're a Star Wars fan who doesn't take strategy games too seriously, you might have some fun with this one. Enjoy playing in the Star Wars universe, and laugh it off when you have to hunt Bantha to feed your Trade Federation droids.

A good Star Wars RTS

This game is the better Star Wars RTS for sure; it's a bit slow paced, which took me some getting used to (I've been playing Red Alert 2 for a year now). But after I got used to the slower game play I found this game to be allot of fun. It does use the AOE 2 engine and allot of the same units (with Star Wars graphics) however I found this game to be more fun than AOE 2. Perhaps this is because it's Star Wars, or because it is a si-fi game, or how this game can make the Gungan Army actually look cool and menacing and not like a bunch of bumbling Jar Jar Binks's like I was worried it would. Over all the game is worth the money and is hours of fun (especially if you are an AOE 2 fan and a Star Wars fan).

The Force Is Strong With This RTS Game!!

Got this one for an early Christmas present and loved it! I had gotten bored with AOK:TC and was excited to see something like this breath fresh air into the genere. This one is screaming for expansion packs galore! I've also turned two co-workers onto this game as well. If you hate Star Wars, then leave this one alone. But if you're like me, then you'll be up way past your bedtime with this bad boy! The knock that I have seen in some reviews is that its "just like AOE2". Well, all I can say is that you need to stay up with your gaming news. Lucas Arts contracted with Ensemble Studios (the AOE developers) to produce SWGB. After the miserable gameplay of Force Commander, Lucas Arts realized that they may want to seek some outside help in creating a RTS-style game for Star Wars. In other words, Lucas Arts wanted to use the Ensemble gaming engine because it recognized it as a superior product. In my opinion, it was a great move. The only beef I have is that the AI needs some definite work. After massive initial attacks on your position, enemy units tend to follow those up with weak one and two unit skirmishes. They also tend to attack the same spot almost exclusively after a while. This seems to happen in the longer campaigns most of the time. But the overall game play is simply great. Gettiing to play as Darth Vader applying a Force Choke to some Rebel scum is way cool!! All the characters are fanatastic, even some from the Star Wars Expanded Universe are introduced. The campaigns are well-conceived and the tutorial is very informative. Even veteran Agers will want to run through it just to get a handle on the new look and feel of the game. And of course, the Imperial Walkers RULE!! As a friend of mine put it, "Let's see how your Persian War Elephants do against my AT-AT's!" Hey, there's an idea for an expansion pack......

Made for Star Wars fanatics

Take Age of Kings, remove al the historical aspects, and then fill it with the characters from a galaxy far, far away. I am, at best, a lousy player of AOK, but with SWGB I am a decent player. Why? Because its all Star Wars... I know you can be Gengis Khan in AOK, but I'd rather prefer to storm a Rebel Alliance town in Tattoine with bunch of AT-AT's and AT-ST's. If you loved AOK and Star Wars, this game is for you.

Best Game in over 1 year

Reminds me of the Homeworld series although different. It is 2D not 3D and takes place on land. I am not a hard core gamer and most games that are highly rated are just too difficult even on the "easy" setting. I bought 3 highly rated games and this is the only one I could play. Just have fun and enjoy. It has so many options that one could take weeks playing them all out. You really get your moneys worth here.

Lucas Arts has gotten lazy!!

This game is an absolute waste of time! Lucas Arts totally dropped the ball on this one. The game is a ... "mod" of Age of Empires. Bad graphics and micro-management have made it sadly unplayable. The entire game is spent slowly moving units around the map and cutting down trees. (Why do you need trees to build X-wing fighters anyway?!?!?) Please save your money for a decent game like Return to Castle Wolfenstein. Maybe Lucas will pay everyone back for buying this stinker of a game...
