Awesome game! Must buy!

I got this from the library, and it's awesome! You install it, and then you don't need to put the disc in to play it. The games are awesome; over 40 of them. You can create your own character that looks just like you, and you can play with other people too. When you play with the computer, you can earn money to spend at the store on the disc. It's so awesome. You can also play pool on it, which is one of my favorite games. I would definitely recommend this to anyone interested.

These games are a lot of fun to play, there are lots of interesting characters to choose from as opponents and fun dialog.

Good concept, but frustrating when the game cheats

3 Rating: 3, Useful: 4 / 4

I've spent many, many hours playing all of the different games in this collection, so obviously it is overwhelmingly addictive. The only drawback I can see is that the game will noticably cheat, particularly in backgammon. If the computer is in a pickle, it will give itself the EXACT rolls it needs. It's actually rather obvious when it happens and I suppose Hoyle did it to make the game more challenging, but it just makes for a poor experience. I'm still playing despite this, so it is an enjoyable game.

Great game

I still recommend this game to all young children and pre-teens who wish to hone their skills at chess, backgammon or other games such as The Incredible Machine and crossword puzzles.

Hoyle Games 2005

What a great selection of games! I've owned it for three months and have probably tried about 25% of them. Occasionally I've downloaded a game for a free trial only to discover later I already have it (or a very close approximation) in Hoyle! There are games here for everyone.

The only drawback is not being able to save a game in progress when I have to get back to work. Considering the price, this drawback is hardly worth mentioning.

Maximum Pool does not work properly.

1 Rating: 1, Useful: 1 / 2

The Maximum Pool game does not work if you have any game controllers. It locks up when you start it and you will have to use Task Manager to shut it down. This is a known bug in the program, and there is no patch available for this version. The patches for other versions will not work for "Puzzle and Board Games", I've tried! A quick search will give a lot of information on this problem. If you do not mind turning off your computer, unplugging your joystick and game controllers every time you want to play pool, then rebooting, the pool game WILL work. You have to shut down your computer to reinstall any game controllers needed for other games. I'm not going to put all this stress on my new computer and USB ports just to play a game.

Fun for the Winter

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 2 / 2

This game is fun for all ages. I like the variations of pool, but there needs to be a connect four game on there. Sometimes, the software will not let you change or add characters when you need to.

If you are bored or if you are stuck at home in the winter, or if you really like these types of games, then you will enjoy this software.

Don't have previous version, 2006 version not on Amazon, but figured someone might like to know about the current version. First off you can load the games on a computer and don't need the CD's to the play the games. Here is the list of games from the content page from the manual since the box does not tell you all the games it comes with.
1. anagrams
2. crosswords
3. edge tiles
4. sudoku
5. kakuro
6. jewels
7. drop it
8. gravity tiles
9. hangman
10. mahjongg
11. maze racer
12. maze raider
13. memory tiles
14. placer racer
15. rays
16. slide tiles
17. solitaire arcade
18. star collector
19. incredible machine
20. time breaker
21. word searches
22. backgammon
23. battling ships
24. bump 'em
25. checkers
26. chess
27. chinese checkers (6 players, human or computer, with human players taking turns in front of the computer)
28. dominoes
29. master match
30. maximum pool
31. pachisi
32. reversi
33. rummy squares
34. wordox
35. word yacht
36. yacht

The box says over 45 games and there probably is, I just listed the ones the content page mentions. Hope that helps someone make a decision if they want to buy it, it would have helped me. System requirements Pent III 450mhz, 128 Ram, 700 mb hard drive space, 16 mb video ram. I don't think those are set in stone since it will run on less then that but better to be safe then sorry. I think it just depends on the game, since most of the games in this set are not fast action and lots of 3D graphics.
