Its best with a joystick. I love the plot, its very deep and involving. Graphics are still hard to match even today.

Great action game

I think this is only the 2nd game in my 15 years of playing computer games that I actually finished. I love the accurate flight physics and believable story line. The game walks one right through getting proficient at flying and it is necessary to play the game. You get a whole lot better before you end the game.

I would recommend this to anyone that dreams of flying in space.

only for hard core

this game has pretty much a good story line and some cool features but the controls for the game totally suck and make it into a complete nightmare to play.

Too many bugs

This game has too many bugs. In my case I recover stolen goods, and return them to where I'm suppose to, then nothing happens after that. This is early in the game. I can't get past this point. You are just stuck there with nothing happening. Very slow game, too much wasted time going places and then you accomplish your mission and the game just stops. No support provided from game mfg. Too much time wasted for little results Much better games out there.

Whoops!

I got this game in hopes of a good adventure. Instead i got terrible controls, command problems, poorest where the enemy is and whom the enemy is tracking i've ever experinced in any game. Communication, ship functions, and user friendliness were shot to hell! Definitely DO NOT buy this game unless you have 4 arms and are masochistic.

Buy this game

I seariously recomend that you buy this game, it is the second best game I have ever played, and I've played a few. It is only second, in my opinion, to Imperium Galactica 1. The people at Particle Systems have got the bases for one of the best space sims of this centuary. If you have enough to buy this game I sujest you do so and fast!!!!

A decent storyline, upgradeable and customisable ships and a realistic physics engine. If you like I-War, you'll want this.

The learning curve on this game is a bit steep, especially on multiplayer but well worth the effort IMHO.

Edge of chaos has great space combat, but that's about it. I feel they could have done so much more with the environment they created.

First of all, trading goods could have been carried out at the MANY space stations in the galaxy, but it was all carried out at some bland screen you visited at your home base. Plus, with a huge myriad of planets, you couldn't land on one of them.

Besides all that, progression of technology was far too slow and the number of ships was pathetic. The plot line was iffy at best, and I couldn't get though the game without the occasional hint from the walkthrough.

One good thing is that you can modify the game with downloads available from various web sites. However the quality of the mods is not all that great..

Basically, this game was pretty fun, but it had a flat ending and got old REALLY fast...

Good potential but....

Started off great, fantastic graphics and the ships were good fun to fly. The problem is that you never know where to go or what to do. You're supposed to go out in to the universe and find "jobs" to do but with no direction or idea as to how to go about doing it. I went from one planet to another, nothing happened but I enjoyed the view. Too bad the game cheat manual is out of print.

Underrated game

Rarely do you find a game these days that has the two qualities that make a great game. Graphics and gameplay. Far too aften it's one or the other. These days the plot usually has to suffer because developers spend way too much time trying to visually impress the gamer.
This is not the case in I-War 2. From the main menu interface, the music, just the presentation in general upon first installing the game it's hard not to initially sit there with your mouth open in awe. Though far and few between, the cutscenes in this game are nothing less than spectacular. Don't be fooled though, the learning curve on this game is very steep. I knew this from the get go and I decided I was going to finish this game. I started playing Sep 02, I finished it in around April 03. I don't have the time to play 10 hr marathons, but everytime I did sit down, I played this.
One of the downfalls in the game is that there are a few problems with the in game scripting, in laymen's terms sometimes parts of the script won't continue if certain things are done in a right order, and it can be very frustrating, especially because there's no way to know. With a very small amount of time there are fan websites that can help guide you or show you what your doing wrong. Plus through patches about 95% of these "holes" have been fixed.
Another reason so many found the game difficult is the physics of the game, it is a sim so it uses zero gravity, meaning once you start accelerating unless you accelerate the other direction you'll keep going that direction. It makes combat very interesting and very difficult to master.
I can't recommend this game enough, the story kept me going to the end, the music and sound effects are beautiful, top notch graphics, exciting epic space battles, a true space sim in every aspect.
