Good Game except..........

3 Rating: 3, Useful: 6 / 8

I bought this game after purchasing an iBook with the intention of playing against all of my friends. While the game play holds true to the original game in single player, you CAN NOT play against your PC friends for the "forseeable future" for that reason I can not give the game a 5 star review...

An incredibly-exact, excellent transition of the PC version.

Those who doubt the quality of Mac games transitioned from original PC versions... doubt no longer. Bold Destineer and Westlake Interactive have taken the PC version of "Age of Kings" and "Age of Conquerors" and brought them to the Macintosh in ALL of their full glory. I have played the PC version for countless hours... I have extensive experience in AoE2. So when I recently bought a Macintosh Powerbook and purchased this game as one of the classics of strategy gaming, I expected a "decent" but not-quite-faithful rendition of the PC version. How wrong I was! This version is *identical* to the PC version in essentially every way... the graphics, the sound, the speech, the control interface, etc. Simply a perfect clone of one of the greatest real-time strategy games ever created.

Macintosh gamers... this is a MUST-BUY game if you have any interest in real-time strategy. The graphics might not be "fancy" by today's standards, but let the gameplay prove its worth and you will be convinced. Along with the Conquerors expansion (included in this version of course) this is one of the most detailed, balanced, and long-lasting games you'll ever play. To miss out on Age of Empires 2 would be a shame.

Great game, spoiled by networking issues

Having played every one of the AoE games from the very beginning, I was delighted to find a Mac port of AoE II Gold. The gameplay is great, and is seriously addictive. The only downside (which has resulted in this game receiving only four stars) is that network play between Macs and PCs is not possible, and gameplay between two or more Macs is problematic. This is highly unusual for a Mac game, but of course, the problem can be seen written all over a big banner in the main screen "Microsoft."

This is the only issue i have with this game, in all other respects it is one of the best strategy games ever made.

Age of Empires II gold pack is the best game I have ever played. It combines strategy and skill to run your civilization succesfully. Having the option of being more than one civilization gives you the chance to explore different civilizations units and archetecture, as well as to govern it to victory. Overall, this is the best game I have ever played and I won't play anything else. It is also educational. Even though I am nearing fifty and have studied ancient civilizations for half my life, it still teaches me new things.

Amazing and Fun

This game is so much fun!! You choose from some of the greatest civilizations of this plant. You choose from the Britons to the Celts to the Persians to the Saracens to the Mayans and much more. You then change your tiny civilization into a triving empire, conquering your enemies and expanding your empire. You can build so many things. Castles, seige workshops, archery ranges, barracks, docks, and even your own Wonder of the World. The Age of Kings campaign is great, you start with William Wallace, where you learn how to play the game, while you help the Scottish drive the British out of Scotland. From there you can help Joan of Arc win the Hundred Years' War, or join Saladin in the Middle East. In the Conquerors campaign ride with Attila the Hun, help El Cid of Spain or Emperor Montezuma of the Aztecs. So, the choice is yours. You will have a blast with this game!

A MUST OWN GAME!

This is one of the best strategy games for mac. It has some of the best graphics and has great gameplay. Out of all the games I have ever played, this beats them all. There are many different campaigns that you can play from medival times, including Genghis Khan, Joan of Arc, and El Cid. You can play as eighteen different civilizations, and each of these has there own unique units and technologies that you can research. This game has taken days, maybe weeks out of my life already. I guarentee you will not be sorry if you buy this game.

Few games can combine the art of strategy and history AND do it correctly. The game offers an easy to read and precise instruction manual. PLUS there's a
great tutorial which explains EVERYTHING you need to know. Everything is veryy versatile and can be customized to how you want to play. There are few things in life that can really give you your bang for your buck and AOE 2 is one of those rare things. It's difficult to not enjoy the game because of how every option offered can fit your liking. There is a reason why AOE is such a popular game and that's why -it can please just about anyone.

The Best Strategy Game Of All Time And One Of The Best Games Ever Made

Age Of Empires 2 is a masterpiece. Regardless of any complaints anyone has made about this game, there is no arguing. This one of the most fun, addictive, and satisfying games ever made.

You can play it for months. I played it for over a year, then came back and played it for another year. It's probably the most addictive game I've ever played. Not Mario, not Zelda, not the great Doom, not Quake or Half-life or Warcraft or even Grand Theft Auto has ever had me as hooked as this game. Microsoft and Ensemble Studios hit the nail on the head with AOE 2.

The sequel to Age Of Empires keeps everything that made the first one great, throws away almost everything that made it bad, and throws an amazing, revamped user interface that gives the player god-like power if used expertly.

The different civilizations are fantastic. The advantages and disadvantages of each one make the game interesting and balanced, although some civilizations are better (overall) than others. I mean, really, who doesn't love (and equally hate) the Longbowmen? The War Elephants? The Woad Raiders? The Throwing Axeman?

The units are the best part of the game. Except for the paladin and scorpion wipeout trick, the unit balance is superb. The naval battles are amazing, with fireships, ballista ships, and even ships that launch cannonballs.

There are more buildings, tons more upgrades, and a brand-new unit I like to call the x-factor: the trebuchet. This is one of the units that makes AOE 2 a true delight. As built up as a city can become, it can be destroyed in minutes with enough trebuchets.

The multiplayer aspect of this game is what solidifies AOE 2's standing as one of the best games ever made. It is surreal. I've had 12-hour multiplayer sessions many times. You just don't want to stop. It's so fun!!! It's madness!

As far as challenge goes, you'll get all you want. Just try beating the entire game on the hardest difficulty and see the headache you get. And if you get through with that, buy the expansion pack and eat your heart out.

Buy this game! Play it until you're sick of it! That probably won't happen, but even if it does, when you come back from your break you'll be twice as hooked.

Ha!!! The memories I have of this game! Man, this is the best!
