This game will not work unless you have the requisite souped-up video cards to support it.

For example, a plain G3 iBook will not run the software-- at all. You get a bizarre error message and then it quits.

Should be Crash City not Sim City

I bought this game for my son and I am now spending many minutes a day rebooting his MAC computer. The game locks up the entire system and requires a hard reboot each time. If this was an automobile from GM of Ford the roads would be littered with wrecked cars. Don't waste you money.

Graphics not a problem...if you fix them!

Lots of these reviews complain about the graphics on this Mac version. I had the same problems too - unexpected crashes and VERY slow game performance, on a pretty new G5 tower.

Doing two things will fix these issues. In the game's video/display options panel, switch off the page scrolling, and reduce the graphic detail. That's all it took to have this game running great. The manual should cover these quirks but it doesn't.

One final tip - learn the keyboard commands (found on the back of the manual) as it will speed up gameplay hugely, and totally compensates for no scrolling.

Not a bad game.

This game was very entertaining for about the first 2 weeks, but after that, it got a little old. The graphics are superb. It wasn't that hard to master the financial aspect of the game. The things I was dissapointed with was that there were no prebuilt cities, there aren't random disasters (only fire), all other disasters you have to create yourself which takes away half the fun. Overall it's a good game. Just gets old like any game after a while.

Download the update before you play!!!

I was having the same problem as other reviewers until I downloaded the performance update from the Apple website....it fixed it all! This game is absolutely facinating and I'd recommend it to anyone who was even slightly interested in it. The detail is amazing and you can zoom in and see the most random stuff going on. However, as a beginner, I'm still overwhelmed once the city gets bigger and there is more to keep track of!

Very Good...if it has update!

I have noticed many people have said just how bad Sim City 4 is. The thing to solve these problems is to get the updater It will make Sim City much better!

Great Fun but Realistically Challenging- not like prior Sims

A veteran of the original SimCity as well as 2000, this one seems more sensitive to broad-brush management, needing a more delicate hand- check out the walkthrough and FAQ sites to help.

The controls are intuitive, the tutorials great, the detail amazing (watching sims in day-to-day life), and as long as avoid loans then can get to a decent small town (10,000 people) within a few simulated "years". A neat feature is that you can save multiple cities on a larger common geography, and link them for trade and business. Can't wait for the pro-sports and universities (larger population dependant)!

My iMac G5 1.6GHz 1GB RAM 64MB VRAM sometimes pauses in refreshing graphical details- so lots of horsepower required to keep this one moving. A great choice for your collection.

Poor quality ruins a great idea

I've been a fan of the SimCity games since the original, but honestly, SimCity 2000 was the last decent one for the Macinosh. SimCity 3000 had a horrible true-3D, full-screen interface that was klunky and hard to use, as well as running far too slowly on most systems. SimCity 4 goes back to isometric graphics, so I had hope that this would be another one as good as SimCity 2000. But no such luck.

In concept and intent, this game looks like a great one; it has an attractive (though full-screen) UI and a lot of nice new features over older versions of the game. But the implementation is just plain poor. The serial number on my CD case didn't work, causing me to have to contact tech support (and wait for their next-weekday response) to even install the game. Then I had to download and install a patch before it would even run without immediately crashing. And even after that, it still crashes or freezes every five or ten minutes, often bringing my entire (OS X!) system down with it. And when it's not crashing, there are various obvious visual anomalies -- I had an entire industrial zone appearing as solid white, and the only way to guess what was there was to mouse over it with the ? tool.

Asypr should be ashamed of themselves for releasing a product in this state. I don't recommmend you waste your money on it; it will only bring you frustration.

As of this moment I am very dissapointed with this game- and I haven't even got it to work yet.
It appears that some copies of the game were shipped out with invalid CD keys, and I just so happened to pick one up.
Potential Buyer Beware! You might get a copy with an invalid CD key!

I enjoy playing the game but it is a memory hog. The game runs slow and has crashed when cities get large. It is a very pretty game; the detail in managing your city is complex but intriguing. Some aspects of game play still elude me and I haven't found the instructions very helpful. I would recommend this game if you really enjoy the Sim City games but be prepared for disappointments.

All in all could be a better game.
