I am actually not the person to be giving a review for this item because I have not even played it yet. But... I have read some reviews. The game looks visually stunning as the environments are large and vast. Hopefully it will be as large as the online hit Everquest. Controls are not the same as the computer, to attack you must hold down the R1 button and press another one until the animal or monster is dead. In my personal opinion, you should purchase a keyboard for the online adapter. This will make you feel like you are playing Everquest on your computer.

One major advantage of this game for the PS2 rather than the computer is the dropping of zoning from the game which, on the computer version, is a break in the area for your computer to load up another new large area. The zones as they are called can become tiresome but they don't take the fun out of the game for sure. Still for the game to become fun, one may want to wait a while because there are not going to be near as many people on the PS2 version than the computer version for quite a while.

This game may never live up to its big brother, but it can be ap erfect substitute for the kid that doesn't have a computer with enough RAM or memory. I hope this review has proved helpful...Oh! The reason why I wrote this review in the first place was to be the first. I haven't done that yet. Not until now!

Play Final Fantasy XI instead.

I love this game its the best game i have for PS2.The reason i rated it 4 stars is because you have to pay.there are 4 servers to start from(towns)and each is special in a way.one of the best parts of the game is grouping(teaming up)because you can fight the hardest monsters and share exp.play with your friends too.buy weopons, armor, bows, ect. to make your character one of the best.

Review based on previous experience with SOE

I played Everquest. I never had a single good experience with the good folks at Sony Online Entertainment. The people that bring us Everquest and Everquest Online Adventures. While the game had it's good points, and was occasionally fun, I don't think it is worth the risk.

The computer game still has bugs that were listed as bugs by beta testers, years after beta was done with and several expansions later. When there is a problem with the game it is always a problem with your setup, never with their funky/broken code. I would expect these problems to be less frequent with the PS2 version, but I would probably be disappointed.

I have to agree with the person who said to wait and play Final Fantasy XI. That is what I plan to do. I won't throw any more money at SOE, it is a lost cause.

I find it entertaining.

This game is basically the same as the PC version. It has no ending. This game had ok graphics, but they do not quite live up to the PS2. I would say for those who dream of knights and old kingdoms, this is a must have. But for the rest of us, you may just want to pass this one up. By the way, this is not a good rental game, unless you get a few years to rent your games because you'll be playing it for a short time, when you really need to play it for a few weeks before judging it.

What??

Ok folks. Listen up. This is a hardcore PC gamer talking to ya:

I have been playing EverQuest for about three years on the PC. It's a great game and still has newcomers and serrious players that join in the fun. I personally am not a huge gamer, so i don't spend THAT much time on stuff like that, however I know a good game when I see one. I harassed my friend for ages when he first bought the PS2 version of the game, and then I went over to check it out for myself.

Most of what I found was devestating. They've had, what... four or five years to make the graphics BETTER for this game, the worlds MORE expansive, the connection compatability better, yet all they do is an immitation of an otherwise great PC game! Face it, EQ is four or five years old! During that time span, they could have DEFINATELY improved the game instead of using the same engine and making different quests. If you own the PC version, shun this game forever... Most console gamers probably wouldn't enjoy a game like this, anyway.

Gets Old Fast!

Everquest Online Adventures(EQOA) allows you to play online with countless people from around the world. This can be both a blessing and a curse. Profanity filters can't decode words when they are typed with p.e.r.i.o.d.s in them, so a lot of things can slip through. Because of this, parents with younger children should think twice before allowing their kids to be exposed to such things.

Besides this, EQOA is a wonderful game for those who are tired of being killed by hardcore players in other games. This game is about teamwork. Meet hundreds of people and join together to take on huge numbers of enemies. This is all well and good, but it gets old fast. There are tons of quests to do, but they almost exclusively involve running somewhere, killing something, and bringing back proof of your endeavor.

There is a reason people call it the treadmill. The world is so expansive that it becomes nearly impossible to travel around in. You will often find yourself lost in the wilderness if you stray from the beaten path. To help lost wanderers, Sony has included a nice self-teleport that takes you back home, and has a stable system for quickly moving between cities you have previously visited. Still, this game requires tons of running, and the end result is hours wasted traveling somewhere, only to find another group has gotten there first.

At lower levels, all the characters tend to look the same, since there aren't many different pieces of equipment to get, and getting to higher levels requires untold amounts of the previously mentioned running.

In addition to this, it is nearly impossible to chat without a keyboard(sold separately I might add). The game has a built in keyboard, and quick buttons for common saying. However, if you have ever typed your name into a console game, like sports games and such, you can see how hard it must be to communicate effectively. Not only this, but the onscreen look is not changeable, so if you really need to tell a group member to look out for a monster, you have to 'type' it into the window that covers your entire screen.

As a result of all of this, EQOA gets old really fast. When you die you only loose experience, not money or items, and thus even fear of death doesn't provide excitement. In the end you will probably grow tired of doing the exact same thing day in and day out. Running to get experience, and then running back to sell items and buy new ones, just to run back to get more experience.

Oh, did I mention there is a lot of running in this game?

This game is tight
