Now this is what I call intereative ADVANTURE game

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 2 / 3

Let's be honest, if your definition of "advanture" is about doing things like "moving some chess pieces on a board to open up a mysterious door", or "swaping a fried fuse and toying around with strange power switches", then do yourself a favour, the "Puzzle Game Section" is that way ----->>>>>

Indigo Prophecy does not need weird, Mensa-certified puzzle sovling. It is an adventure game based on using your guts and wits. It is a tale of mystery solving told from multiple perspectives. Its presentation form is what makes the game unique - ever read one of those "choose your path" novels? Indigo Prophecy is just like that, except this time, it is a "choose your path" adventure game that has top quality cinematic feeling.

Voice acting in the game is very well done. You can "hear" the character's emotions. Be it sadness, anger, or fear.

Graphically, IF you compare it to present day games then it is a little bit on the weakside. Try think of Max Payne 2 in terms of graphics if you have played that game. The game engine is about the same level as that year 2003 game.

But does the graphics matter much? Nope.

The best thing about this game is its presentation and story. Sure, the story has its flaws at near end parts, but along the way you encounter many surprising twists that will keep you going and going until you see the very last screen.

The action parts of the game is very intuitive in my opinion. They are simple to execute in which that if you have two hands, or feet, or whatever.

So, to sum it up, Indigo Prophecy is certainly an outstanding adventure game that redifines many aspects of the gerne. If you love mystery thrillers, you will love this game.

Ambitious attempt in interactive drama

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 2 / 3

Indigo Prophecy plays like an interactive movie. The main character is Lucas Kane, who, after a dramatic opening sequence, finds himself covered in blood and standing over a dead body in the restroom of a diner. An ingenuitive split-screen view shows a cop at the diner's front counter. What should Lucas do? As a standard dramatic movie setup this would be pretty interesting, but since you get to control how Lucas reacts this becomes a spectacular experience. And this is just the beginning, as you are introduced to other major characters with their own complicated motivations, much of which you are able to control.

If this sort of experience doesn't sound amazing, then you should probably stop reading and do a search for the new first-person-shooter of the week.

I played the PC version, and the game-play controls are also ambitious. To interact with your environment QuanticDream implemented a simple gesture interface. For example, to pull open a door you hold the left mouse-button and pull the mouse towards you. To push a switch you push the mouse away from you. It's not perfect, but it shows that they were trying to make the most of standard peripherals in an interactive movie.

The controls for the action sequences in the game are unfortunately a bit less successful. They use a Simon Says / Dance Dance Revolution model to complete sequences which requires your character to dive, jump, and attack in coreographerd motion-captured animation. For sequences which involve using your characters strength or endurance, you have to hit keyboard keys repeatedly. It's an interesting idea, but it feels arbitrary and random. It's another case where the developers were clearly limited by the standard input devices, but perhaps a Dragon's Lair model would have worked better.

Making a good interactive story is hard. It's a constant battle bewteen non-linear player control and linear scripted plot. In the beginning of this game QuanticDream had this balanced perfectly. The plot was mysterious and powerful, but it was in the background where it belonged. The game played at times like the Sims, but with characters with backstory in a definite setting and plot. This was when the game was at it's best.

Unfortunately, about half-way through the game the balance starts to fall apart. The plot gets increasingly silly and annoying, while the game-play becomes ever more linear. By the end it's almost a completely different game, which is far inferior to the beginning experiences.

Get this game to get a glimpse of what the future of storytelling has to offer, but also to remind yourself how far the industry still has to go.

EXCELLENT game!

I usually play adventure type games, (Syberia, The Longest Journey, etc.) and I thought this game would be similar. Although it isn't the same type of game, I think adventure gamers will really like this game also. It is like an adventure game, but also has action cut scenes where you push buttons like "simon says" to make him succeed in the action sequences. The story line is just amazing, and so are the graphics. You have different decisions to make, and they effect the story's outcome, and the mental stability of the character. WHAT A GREAT GAME!

I found this game to be absolutely rivetting. It has many chapters to play, and each chapter can be played several times in many different ways. The controls are unique - I found them to be difficult at first - however, you can easily remap keys on your keyboard to make the controls totally individualized.

Indigo Prohecy actually has a storyline that develops from the opening sequence to the epilogue. There are a couple of unanswered questions; however, for the most part, the game is well developed and splendid.

I have played this game over and over and over again - and I'm still not tired of it.

I expected better from Atari. Seems rushed out the door.

I just finished playing Indigo Prophecy and was somewhat disappointed. The initial description and demo really caught my interest. I am a big fan of Atari games since the prehistoric days of M.U.L.E. on the Atari 800 PC and matured to really appreciated games that can offer more than mindless destruction in favor of an intelligent plot and story to tell. Unfortunately, my final perception is that this game started with tremendous potential but was released prematurely to meet corporate deadlines and I am genuinely puzzled by the unbelievably high ratings for this game by users on GameSpot (several actually gave this a 10 out of 10; c'mon guys, is this really a 10???).

You begin the game playing the role of Lucas Kane, an NYC IT technician for a banking firm who savagely murders a stranger in the bathroom of a diner for no apparent reason. You spend the rest of the game trying to piece together the motive behind the murder, uncovering a plot by secret forces out to take over the world.

The game is played out in a series of chapters involving Q&A between characters, hunting for hidden objects, and action sequences. The game is played almost entirely in the 3rd person by sending commands to the characters to execute specific tasks, such as open a door, play a guitar, or ask a question. There is a lot of freedom in terms of the order of events necessary to complete a chapter so one can replay chapters in a different order to see how this affects the outcome but many chapters have time limits to complete a set of directives so one has to think fast.

The action sequences are unique. Rather than use the keyboard or controller to throw punches or block attacks, there is a series of flashing lights corresponding to controller positions or keystrokes that one must mimic in a very short amount of time. Entering the sequence incorrectly results in a hit against the character or some other penalty. Hardcore gamers will likely find this format boring for several reasons. Firstly, mastering the sequences is very easy, even on the highest difficulty level. One is even given a "Get Ready" warning that an action sequence is coming. Gamers who sharpened their controller skills on modern action titles like Mortal Kombat or Half-Life will tear through almost all of the action sequences on the first attempt with little difficulty. Secondly, one must focus acutely on watching the flashing lights. As a result one does not get to appreciate the action actually taking place on the screen. More than once, I felt myself asking the question, "Wait, what did I just do there?" because I was watching the lights instead of the action. Thirdly, given the fact that this game comes from arcade pioneer Atari, I expected a more polished interface to let one actually fight a character; instead, I get the feeling that I am directing someone else playing the game.

The story and plot development in the game is excellent in the beginning but later seems awkward and rushed. Early on, the characters think and act much as real adults would. One note of caution, the game is rated M for mature but it is definitely not for the violence or gore (note I said the characters act as adults). More importantly, depending on the actions of your characters, the mental state will improve or decline. If the mental state drops too low the chapter will end. I am told that in some cases you can induce a character to commit suicide due to depression. I was able to land one character in an insane asylum. But by mid-game, characters are introduced without sufficient explanation. This really lent to my impression that the game was released too early and if the developers had more time they could have included more explanation behind the characters actions and motivations.

The voice-acting is good but not exceptional and there are some sections, like when a character asks himself, "What am I, in a video game?" That would be laughable if they weren't so clichéd. The graphics are so-so and can be played on a modest system but on a high note the sets and scenes are well rendered even if the characters seem a little wooden.

Along the game, one can collect cards that contribute to Bonus Points. These bonus points can be used outside the game to unlock special features such as art galleries, soundtracks, and goofy additional movies but these are all just fluff with very little value.

In the end, I was disappointed. A big name like Atari really should have released a better overall product. Beginning gamers may appreciate the game for its simplicity but serious gamers would be advised to steer clear of this one until it is available at bargain bin prices.

Ultimately Disappointing

The game has garnered some good reviews and I was impressed with the demo I had played. The beginning was fun and captivating, but that was where it ended for me. As I played on, I felt like I was playing a game that had ripped off several movies (End of Days, The Matrix, The Crow, etc.). Not only that, the game was riddled with cliches, especially in regards to the African American cop.

The gameplay is decent, but leaves much to be desired. This is especially evident during cutscenes when you are required to operate the controls. It detracts anyone from paying close attention to the story and ruins the cutscenes.

The story seemed to go somewhat smoothly until you get close to the end. So little emphasis is payed to a huge chunck of time that your left wondering what happened, what did I miss.

The most disheartening aspect of the game is that it's short. I beat this the same day I bought it on the normal mode.

The game trys to come off deep, but only proved to be thick-witted.

I recommend to anyone who wishes to play this game to rent it.

Trust me

I'll be brief. Almost everything has already been mentioned below. This is probably the best gaming experience I've ever had. Splendid, superb piece of software not to miss. Flawless, spectacular, chilling.
I hope this game opens a new tendence in the game arena.
I mean, damn, you must get it. Do not if you like brainless FPS.

Overall, i just want to say that this game is absolutely amazing. It is completely original and i've never played anything like it. From the beginning, the storyline immediately grabs your attention.

One of the things that i like most about this movie-video game is that you have control over EVERYTHING. This is a pretty awesome feeling to know that everything you say is going to affect the mood of your character. And, not only do you control Lucas Kane, you control the two policeman also, so you are cleaning up evidence with Kane and then looking for the very clues that you might have accidentally left with the Carla and the other cop. Personally, i think that alone is really quite amazing and once again, quite original.

I also can't help but notice in the other reviews that they mention god of war, this was also one of my favorite games, and like the others i find some resemblances between the two. I like participating in the awesome cutscenes, which in some way, towards the very end of the game, during the fights with the hooded guy and the escape from the police, kind of remind me of the matrix. The simon says things with the right and left joysticks are fun, and make you pay attention to the game at ALL TIMES, which is different from other games, because some cutscenes can be quite boring, and you just want to skip them. But not in this one, you can't skip them, and why would you want to??

However, i did notice that this game definitely had some flaws, and in the hands of another game company could have been even more engaging, especially in the fields of graphics and control. Sometimes when you are trying to move quickly because you have a limited amount of time the controls drag you in directions that you didn't intend to go (at least i experienced this with the ps2 version), and the graphics weren't that intense. (especially because im a big fan of games with great graphics like any final fantasy, and god of war which had amazing graphics).

I would recommend this game to anyone who wants to try something completely new, or to anyone that is just sick of the normal action or first person shooter game. If thats the only kind of game you like im not going to lie...you wont like indigo prophecy, but overall definitely at least worth the rent, and i would definitely buy it but thats just me.

This game has ruined me for other adventure titles!!!

Indigo Prophecy should hopefully lead the way for more high quality adventure gaming. My gripe with most adventure type games is that the graphics are awful or cheaply done, far too simple gameplay/interface - point and click (zzZzzZzz)and the story/acting is usually weak. Oh and forget about replayability.

Indigo Prophecy is the exact opposite. The graphics are pretty decent - not state of the art but it was never distracting or an eye sore. The gamplay takes form of an interactive cinema - highly reminiscient of Shenmue and makes you feel more involved with the story. Especially some of the action sequences (police chase & fight with the Oracle) had my heart pumping and hands sweating! The story is excellently written and I really cannot wait for the sequel....

One more thing to note. I was really impressed that they selected Angelo Badalamenti to score the music for the game which was fantastic and made for a far better production.

I only played this game on PC and having a PC game controller is highly recommended or else you'll have a harder time going through the "simon says" type events.

Highly recommended adult adventure/thriller game!

great fun overall, left me longing for more

This was a great game! So what if it was copied from some movies? I had fun and that's what matters. The controls were a little hard to get by but redefining the Num 1,2,3,5 to match the arrows keys did the job for me. The cinematics though nothing new were still awesome because you could feel the hard work that went into making it. Overall I would recommend playing it because its a great game for killing a whole day.
