This game is exactly what I think makes a good game. In short, it is basically Final Fantasy VIII. It has turn-based battles, so an enemy can't suddenly jump out and start hurting you, which for me makes it not nearly as stressful, and gives it a less frantic feel. The reason I gave it a 4-star rating is because there is only one save point per dungeon, so unless you have a lot of escape powder, which transfers you back to the town were you can save anytime, you will often times find yourself leaving your Dreamcast on overnight and while you are at school, which is pretty bad for your system. Plus the dungeons are just a little too long. Other than those two things, this game is perfect! However, I don't recomend it to people who like real-time fighting.

A good RPG

This RPG Has STYLE!!! It uses a lot of mathematical skills in calculating damage and pinpointing where the enemy is at what time. I have to say that the A.I. is excellent. Also The overall graphics amaze me. Evolution 1 was really short, but Evolution 2 has the best quality gameplay i have seen since Chrono Trigger!
Evolution 2 Will Get 5 Stars anyday!

Not a very good game.

I'll tell you one thing, it's no Final Fantasy. When I first bought this game I didn't have but a few games and I wanted a good RPG for my Dreamcast. It was mediocre at first, but the more I played it the more boring it got. The story line is very [bad] and it seems like all you do is go in and out of huge frustrating dungeons which isn't as fun as they make it seem in the description anyway. This game seems like there wasn't ery much effort put into making it, you do the same thing over and over again, it's not a very good game, I gave it two stars just because I generally like role playing games.

Greatest game ever!!!!!!

Well I bought this game and egarly awaited trying it at home. As I did I found it slow moving and boring. The dungeons are way to big and you can save once, that means it requires about 4 hours out of your life to do a dungeon or waste your money on escape things to get out before you go crazy. The story doesn't do a whole lot either and will someone tell me why it isn't in English?!?! There is only a few good points to this game: even though the story is boring I feel compelled to complete it, the fighting and the learning or new skills keeps me interested, and it only cost me 10 bucks. So if you have beaten everything else or only have 10 bucks on you try this game otherwise why waste your time you'll just forget about it in time anyways

Fair RPG

Evolution 2 is a fair rpg game for the Sega Dreamcast. It has much difficulty, but pushes you to play more and more. It's a great game for the younger crowd but is also suitable for last minute dreamcast buyers. Though gameplay is fair, magic is awesome with unigue attacks from different characters. In the end, it is a pretty good game, looking at around [amount] for a new game.

A cute,little RPG.

This game begins where Evolution 1 left off.A funny train scene begins and you're off into the world of Mag Launcher.

The main strength of this game is the characters. All of them are loveable. It's very easy to feel like you're right there with them. They all express emotions very well.Never did they feel like tools to get to the end of the game.

The story is a very simple bad guy vs good guy one.Comments such as "This is no Final Fantasy" are not a very accurate way of decribing this game.Of course this is no FF.What do you expect?Anyways, the story does not go overboard with dark pasts. It's very suitable for children. And While the story itself is somewhat lackluster, the adoreable characters work to keep it from getting too dull.

The gameplay revolves around going into various dungeons, fighting monsters, asending to higher levels, learning new attacks, while progressing through the game.
The dungeons themselves are sometimes quite long.Make sure you have a few hours of time before entering a new one.The good news is there are no random battles.Enemies are clearly visible and you may try and run away from them if you wish.I wish the developers put a little more effort into the scenery(Or lack there of). There is really nothing more to look at than the same ol walls.
The battles are kinda fun for it just being a simple turn based system. There are a lot more skills, magic, techniques, ect to learn than in games such as Grandia 2 or Skies of Arcadia. It makes you want to level up to learn them all.

The only real complaint I have is that this game is far too simple. It could've been a huge sleeper hit if these characters weren't trapped in such a simple world.Everything, but the character designs are simplistic.
I would say that this game is good for anyone who wants an RPG just to fight monsters, learn cool attacks, level up and save the world. If you're looking for a deep storyline and a more complex battle system,go buy Skies of Arcadia or Grandia 2.

Sometimes You Just Can't Figure Out Where To Start...

...and starting at the begining won't help much in this case. I kept delaying reviewing "Evolution 2: Far Off Promise" because to put it frankly, I didn't know what to make of it! I thought the first game was one of the best RPG's I've played because although the story wasn't as developed as some RPG's (Like "Final Fantasy," "Grandia," and "Skies of Arcadia!"), but the gameplay shined through and proved that gameplay DOES make a difference in a RPG! And while the gameplay is improved (If not the same in some spots), and the story is better developed, there are some changes that MUST be delt with here!!! First those annoying random dungens are gone. Now this good because now you can make a maps, but it's also bad because if you play this enough times getting through the dungens won't be a challenge because there's nothing new here that you havn't seen before! And just as a side note there are also secret doors in the dungens you can locate with the rumble pack! Now as far as the charicters go, Sting didn't pull a "Squaresoft" and start with a new cast and because of this we now have Mag, Linear, Gre, Chain, and Pepper for a second time around! And there's nothing wrong with that! Graphics are of course great! Now for some reason even though we have all these advanced stuff the game was strangly not as fun to play as the last one! I don't know why but for some reason I just didn't find myself getting it this game as much as the last game! I still recomend this game to anyone who liked the first one! But since I still don't compleatly know what to make out of this then you be the judge on if this is better or not!

New and Improved

This will be a great game when it is released. It has the exact same battle system as the first game, new attack animations, and *gasp* an actual storyline. It seems that Mag, Linear, and the rest of the cast is back from the first game. The story for this game is that a new guy named Yurka has come to town and starts a feud with Mag. Linear likes this new guy and Mag thinks he is trying to destroy them. This game will have all the random dungeon crawling of the first game. There is still only one town, although it is bigger then the first town. Still it is the best RPG yet for the Dreamcast and will most likely stay that way until Eternal Arcadia comes out. Although Silver could topple this one.
