Still Enjoyable

When I first started playing Ultima Online it had just finished Beta release and despite the bugs and slow-play I found the game to be a refreshing change from the normal video games I had played. UO managed to keep my interest for three solid years. My fourth year in to UO Sony released the much anticipated Star Wars Galaxies. Which had superior graphics and a better overall game playing experience. I left UO for greener pastures and joined SWG, three years later and much to my dismay and countless others, the developer's at Star Wars Galaxies decided to completely change (for the worse)the game. With the new changes SWG resembles a mess in transition. Rather than enduring I decided to cut and run. I have come full circle. I purchased the UO seventh anniversary edition and have come to realize that UO is and always was the best game around. Although the graphics may be less than some other games the game developer's certainly have preserved the games' integrity and overall game playing experience. Whether you're 15 or 50 you are sure to enjoy the experience!

EA : We Destroy Worlds

This game is so out-dated and the so called (new) 3D graphics are just horrible.
Al they add is new re-hued items.
Actually EA is selling the same old crap over and over again.
Because of E-Bay everyone had 100 of millions of gold coins.
I would not recomment this game to anyone.
This game once a great game but because of all the expansions and the splitting of land mass into PVP and non PVP, it lost all it had to offer.

A much better game would be Lineage 2

I played Ultima Online for three years, beta-tested UO:Third Dawn, and finally left to play EverQuest. I even came back last year to try it again, and it was the same old stuff... just a different wrapper on it. Ultima Online was a revolutionary game in its day, and was the ONLY game I played for a couple of years; it had all I needed in a game! But it has not grown with the times as many other MMORPGs have. After 3 years of UO, 3 years of EQ, a shot at Star Wars: Galaxies, and beta-testing Lineage II (a very good game), I am currently playing City of Heroes, and love it! However, if you're looking for a good fantasy-based MMORPG, I'd wait for EverQuest II. This UO:7th Anniversary Edition isn't worth the plastic it's wrapped in.

Hard to recommand to new players

There are two components to every online game. One is the game mechanics and the other is the play environment. The latter is far more important.
Game mechanics refer to the graphic design, controls, etc. Comparing to other games, UO never scores well. This edition just summarizes all previous expansions without any improvement in the game mechanics.
What attracts people to any online game is the play environment. It is too lengthy to look into the detail and to discuss what the changes before. In summary, UO used to have a harsh environment for new players. Although it is now much easier, the online players have changed as well. If you expect to get help to gain your skills, go hunting champion spawns with friends and fight evil characters, you will be dead wrong and DISAPPOINTED. Most of the time, your character will be hurted by Reds (evil online players) who enjoys giving you the agony. Either you have to join them or deprive yourself the fun. All the good players I know has quit. All that is left are those who like to give advantages of others.
In summary, you may like to give your account one additonal character slot and get a rare if you are a veteran. If you are totally new, try something else, like EverQuest, and forget about Ultima Online. It is a dying game.

Due to wreckless game masters and constant customer abuse, I am closing my account with this game. STAY AWAY! Unspoken policies are abundant, and exist everywhere, making avoiding a ban like running from the gestapo!!!

The game used to have a wonderful gameplay system, the patches are wrecking it into oblivion. Less new players are coming in, and more players are leaving. I suggest you all stay away from this title.

after almost 7 years ultima online is still one of the best MMORPG's out there. I played for 2 years before i left, but now that the new 7th anaversary is released im definatly going to get back into the game. Starting out as a new player in this game is easy, there are lots of people to help you, and there are special new player quests to help you learn the ropes of the game. I reccomend this game to anyone. Ultima has a huge playerbase and a HUGE world to explore. (in my 2 years of playing i still didnt see it all) The Crafting in this game is perfect too, for example you can be a Tailor, Blacksmith, Tinker, Alchemist, Scribe (makes spells) and you can learn the art of poisoning! This game has so much to offer, 5 out of 5 stars easy!

Another blatant money-spinner from the laziest fat cats on the market. Not content with releasing half-copped, bugged up games without full testing in an entire range of Sports Simulators, EA launch another sucker punch to the pockets of the gullables of the gaming world. One of the most pointless anniversary celebrations from the Ultima Online team yet. The novelty of an extra character slot being a mild appeal to the more commited, it's hardly worth the coinage.

Having said all of this, the package does have a saving grace - for the new Ultima Online user, it's an orgasm in a box. Gifting the new player with a wonderous item to bless their bank box, the sale value for these artefacts will soon be through the roof and will happily aid the "Newbies" in-game financial situation. That and the useful addition of the add-ons and the extra character slot make it well worth it's subscription.

Ultima Online may be a dying game, but it's dying slowly and gracefully - still imenseley huge, it's mighty client-base has shattered the expectations of new MMORPG produces who seem to realise that their intended audience just aren't shifting from the strong back of this mighty dinosaur. Out-dated? Hell no! With the best working system in the current market, Ultima Online is still the strongest MORG out and offers wonderful gameplay for all. It's a roleplayer's paradise, and for those with an imagination Europa's Crossroads of Yew and CoRE are just two examples of good communities that vastly compliament the game. Moreover, it's cutely charming 2D graphics may be old, but they're still fairly pretty in their own way, putting to shame the 3D servers of more modern games. Though I wouldn't touch UO's 3D client with a nine-foot-pole.

So the conclusion? Two stars. A pittiful money-spinner from the marxist's nightmarish Bogey-Man, but a great starting point for a new user on one of the internet's best MMORPG's.

The good is that you can be whatever you want to be and there are enough good players out there to help you along the way. Another good is that it is much like life. The object of the game is to learn the object of the game. The instructions are purposefully vague, so you have to learn as you go. The good part to that is that even after months and months of playing, you still find new things to challenge and excite you. Also, with so many other players to interact with, the game can be most anything you want it to be. Another good thing is that there are 3 worlds that you can bounce back and forth on. Two of these disallow player vs. player combat. When I started, 5 years ago, there was only the one world, and you dared not venture outside a town or some super-character would kill you within a few minutes. Now you have the option of just fighting automated monsters.

The bad is the graphics. The game looks are the same as they were 7 years ago and it's very hard to immerse yourself in a world that is made up of glorified stick figures.

My suggestion: Wait for their next game, which upgrades the graphics to 2004 standards.

Nothing new, but a great old!!!!

One great opportunity to join that great MORPG!!! With this commemorative edition you can have all the uo titles for your collection (unless you only need the last one to play) and two great gifts: a new character slot and a copy on the wonderful (but uncomplete due to EA pressure over OSI)Ultima IX.

This game gives you the opportunity to play the role you always wanted. You want to aventure? create a magician, a paladin, a rogue... You want to be the defender of Good? Try a paladin... A dark apprentice? Be a thieve or a necromancer... The possibility to have several characters in a account let you be wathever you want. You want to achieve a great wealth without risk your health? Be a smith, a tailor, an alchemist, a miner, a fisher...

Ultima online let you play in a great world where the best part are its players. Visit the roleplay communities of Vesper, Trinsic, Britannia... join us in Markets, Inn's nights, hunts,... or even fierce battles and strange politics.

And if you try the game and you arrive in a rainy evening to the European Shard... come to Valoria, north of the City of Minoc and visit us. Stay in the Shovel and Sword Tavern, read the old volumes in the Solomon's Library, chat with the Paladins of Geburah and the Healers of Europa, make a Watch with the Bujin-Sho, visit the little Majere's Museum or the Valorian Crafter's House, stay in the Elven Inn, use the best Runelibrary in UO (DeVega's family one), or pay a visit to the Council Member and the Mayoress Tussi in the City Hall.

I alreay said it: a great game, a great fun, and a great players... Give it a try!!

PD: Player of Ultima games since U4, not part of EA or OSI. Admirer of RG, dissapointed of EA... But forever an adventurer in Britannian lands.
