Finally a game were you get to play as the great white shark. In this game you play as jaws the great white shark defending yourself against people that want to kill you. This game features a 25 dismemorant enjine meaning you will be able to sever heads, hands, legs, feet, torsos etc you can even target what you want to sever. Also there is going to be a lot of blood in this which will probebly give it an M rating. You can tear people into flesh chunks literally.Besides being able to attack people and boats you will have boss battles with other predators and mammels.Bosses you will face are Killer Whales,Hammerhead Sharks in schools,Other Great White Sharks,Giant Squid,Blue Whales,Barracuda,Dolphins,Possibley other sharks such as the blue, tiger, bull, greyreef and others and hopefully a Saltwater Crocodile. There are 50 creatures in all.You will have several camera angles one of which will allow you to be seen from your victims point of view. This game will have story mode as well as free roam.In free roam you will be able to swim up to a beach and attack scuba divers. There are also challenge levels.I can hardley wait to get this game and the accompinying strategy guide.I hope this will also spawn a sequel and will also come out on the PSP sometimes next year.

The Truth about JAWS Unleashed...

Ok Ok Ok... if you had told me 10 years ago that they were making a game called JAWS Unleashed and you were "Bruce" himself... I would not have believed you. The truth is I played JAWS the Revenge for NES which I'm sure most of us did back in the day but I think deep down inside we all wished for a game like this instead.

Let me be honest about my scoring here first off, the game does have a few draw backs but.. what game doesn't right? It does have some rough camera views and what-not. They like to happen at the worst moments... but aside from that the game is awesome. Great as it is I beat it rather quickly and I enjoyed some of the nostalgic locations from the first two films.

Sound and graphics are great even though the plot is a bit out there, what else would you expect from a JAWS game though right? If your a fanboy of anything JAWS... or if your looking through the market for a Grand Theft Auto meets A Great White Shark... try this game.

Jaws Unleashed was announced a while ago. People have been waiting for sometime to be the shark himself. Even better, the game was done by those who created Ecco the Dolphin. What's not to like? The answer: Quite a bit. There are some moments of fun to be had in this game, but overall, the everlasting appeal a game of this calibur should have aren't really there.

There's not much of a story to Jaws Unleashed really. It takes place thirty years after the film where yet again, another giant shark is terrorizing people and taking people for his lunch. That's about as much of an explanation as I can give, really. It's clear that this game isn't really much about storyline. Nor does it seem like it really needed the Jaws license. Still, I can deal with that. This is a game that shouldn't have to have a story.

Much of the gameplay is similar to Grand Theft Auto. In a sense, when you're not doing a "mission" you get to free-roam and go about eating people and other fishes if you like. The free-roam aspect of the game isn't so bad, but in reality, this is the only real fun you'll have with this game. It's Grand Theft Auto... but with a shark. And you actually can have some mindless fun while doing it if it weren't for a few things. For one, the controls are terrible. Second, the camera angle is terrible. The camera and bad controls together make the gameplay experience hardly worthwhile. You'll spend a lot of time trying to readjust the camera, and when you do it still isn't quite right. Not to mention that if you surface or something, the camera shifts on its own, meaning you'll have to go through a whole lot of trouble to set the camera again.

The missions are also a drag. Many of them are dumb and pointless. For example, you'll have to beach yourself on the shore and eat someone, and then make it back into the water before you die. This wouldn't be so bad if there weren't invisible walls and a few graphical glitches that make a task such as this mediocre. Not only that, but seeing Jaws beached is not exactly something that'll give you much of a thrill. You might as well stick to just free roaming. Many other missions are also a drag. Sneaking into an amusement park to eat a whale, and the like. Most of these missions are tasteless and all around not very entertaining. Again, stick to the free roam. You'll probably find it much better to sink your teeth into unsuspecting people and fish rather than doing the actual missions this game has to offer.

What really keeps this game down besides the controls, missions, and camera angles may actually lie within the overall presentation of the game itself. It doesn't really look fantastic. Many of the people look bad, and while the environments are colorful, The PS2 is capable of much more than this. The voice acting also isn't great. That's not to say the graphics are horrible. Jaws himself doesn't look so bad, neither does the environment that he swims in. The environment just feels like it could've used more detail is all. What urks the most about the presentation is that it's full of glitches, frame rate issues and invisible walls. For such a long time in development, one has to wonder how these bugs found their way into the game. The music isn't so great either. Much of the music actually comes from the movie. The classic Jaws Theme is given a make over, and it doesn't really sound all that great, to be honest with you. It also gets repetative after a while.

I had high expectations for this game. It didn't quite live up to them at all in the long run. For a game that spent such a long time in development, it really could've presented so much more and been better. The low price tag of $30 might be a little tempting, but I urge you to resist temptation. If you MUST have the game, then wait until you find it used and at a very low price. Otherwise, avoid buying this game at all cost.

The Good
+The Grand Thef Auto like gameplay is actually quite enjoyable
+You actually play as Jaws

The Bad
-Graphically it doesn't look great
-It doesn't sound great either
-The music actually gets repetative
-Too much fighting with the camera
-Clunky controls
-Strange missions
-Quite a Buggy Game. For a game that spent so much time in development, one has to wonder how it could be pack full of bugs

It is, indeed, safe to go into the water...

There have been rumors of this sort of game for years now, and I was happy when I heard news that it was finally being developed, and by Appaloosa Interactive. The controls are fluid and responsive, and it's a lot of fun just swimming around and trying out all of the shark's various abilities (the whole "shark vision" thing, though, is a little hokey). Like the first reviewer said, the game is a little sparse storywise, and I thought a lot of the voice acting was subpar, but those are minor gripes. In all, you could do much worse than play this unique and affordable game, which brought back a lot of memories for me as both a gamer and fan.

Music & Sound Effects: Excellent. Some slowdown underwater.
Graphics: Also excellent. The shark and its environment are very well-rendered.
A.I.: Some repetition, but quite realistic.

Highly recommended!

HARD TO CONTROL BUT FUN!

Ok I was going to buy this game when a friend of mine who definately knows his video games suggested I rent it first. So I did.

There are ten levels to the game and tons of side missions. I completed I think 6 or 7 levels in the two days I had it rented and enjoyed it thoroughly..

the graphics were great the free roaming aspect was awesome the problem was the controlling.

I had so much trouble controlling the shark. It was like a semi truck with no brakes. The hardest part was the mine field. You'd be doing fine until you attack something and was unable to stop and slammed into the mines.

Another problem is that in the TASTE FOR BLOOD level the game would sometimes freeze without warning.. I've read about this problem on several different web sites.. SO BE WARNED you could be doing well and then have to restart the whole level.

I would suggest that you rent the game before you buy it. I still want to buy the game but after renting it I'll wait til I can get it much cheaper!

cool and fun just a little too easy

the games got great graphics and all but i think they should make teh shark look more liek the ones on the movies and not just liek a regular great white shark, teh games cool because it contains stuff from all four movies ( sea world like stage, carribbean type landscapeing, sail boats liek in teh 2nd, patrol boats liek in teh 2nd, teh brody kid, the mayor, cable junction (the island the kids get stuck on at the end of jaws 2). the game is good overall that way, but i got the game liek 3 weeks ago and i just beat it today, its very simple although 2 levels make u actually think at times but it was just way to easy and it couldve been cooler in some points

Cool game, but WAY to buggy...

This is a pretty fun game to play. Who wouldn't want to rip random people to shreds with a great white shark? My main problem with the game is the immense amounts of bugs. The game will mess up quite often, and sometimes even freeze. It drives me insane. So before you buy it, be warned... You're game will likely freeze, lag, tweek out, etc. and it will annoy you to no limit.

controls great/controls bad?

This isn't going to be much of a review but I noticed something strange, one reviewer had said that the controls were great and another said they were terrible and unresponsive. I wonder if this might have something to do with older PS2s vs. the newer models. Is it possible that this game could work better in newer PS2s and horrible in the earlier models? I'VE EXPERIENCED THIS ON SOME GAMES. Just a thought because for one person to say the complete opposite of another on something that isn't really an opinion leads me to think that's what it could be.

I have to say that it was a long wait for this game, and some people will tell you that this game isn't worth the cash. Lets just say that they're WRONG. this game is one of the best games I've ever played. I fell in love with this game from the first teaser trailer. Having said that, this game is definately not perfect. Here's the breakdown

Story: 4/5 stars

Amity has had 30 years pass since the first Great White terrorized it's beaches. Since then, Amity's population has grown immensely. Also, a few large corporations have become interested in the island (including the widely popular "Environplus"). The combination of populated beaches and subsonic industrial work have attracted a very dangerous rogue Great White Shark. The 25 foot long beast begins a new reign of terror.

Graphics: 3 1/2 stars

These graphics are only average, not ultra realistic, so if you're not one of those graphics obsessed people, this won't bother you. Graphics get glitchy on occasion, sometimes more often than that. If you overlook this, however, you shouldn't have a problem.

Controls: 4 1/2 stars

Ok, so I admit, I had a little difficulty learning to control the Great White (in addition the creator of the game gave gamers some lie that they kept the controls "simple") and it took me a little while to learn them. However, once you get the hang of it, it's easy. The learning curve is a little slow (which is why I took off a half a star) but none the less the complex controls give the shark a little more realism as well.

Gameplay: 5/5 stars

Undoubtedly the very essential part of this game is the gameplay. Freeroaming like GTA (although I'm not in the slightest a fan of the GTA series) so you can explore and dominate the entire island. I found myself having lots of mindless fun just jumping on top of boats and sinking them, watching the passengers scream and flail as I circled around them and ate them, one by one. The story mode is rather short (only 10 levels long) but it is also very amusing and fun. Gameplay, to this game, is what makes it so great.

Overall: 5/5 stars

I know its not a perfect game, and any great game comes with it's issues. This game is not perfect, but makes up for what it lacks with what it has. In short, an exceptional game. If you ever get the chance, grab it! See you at the beach...

this bites...

This game sucks! I thought it would be really cool, but aside from parts being retartedly hard, the story is stupid. This game had so much potential....
