very fun, somtimes complicated, though. Mercinaries is my favorite.
the grapics are AWESOME! the detail when biulding your mech is fenominal. the storyline and the missions mesh perfectly. The political aspect is intresting, but sometimes gets in the way of the actuall story. the weponry is really fun. this is a great game for pyromaniacs like myself.

One of the best games out there

It may surprise you that a game that has the years on it this one does still holds up to todays games. I have played many many pc games, more recently including BF2, BF2142, StarWars Battlefront II. There are many others I have played in the past, but MW4 is the only one that has just the right balance between a first person shooter, and a stategy game. It's hard to explain until you've tried it, but if you do, you'll see what I'm talking about. The richness of the game is only enhanced by a robust and dedicated online community.

Vengeance is MINE

This is a fabulous compilation of the MW4 set. The mechlab is far more plausible than in MW3, as the developers opted to allow only certain types of weapons to fit in certain weapon slots. This has actually added a bit of challenge to the game, since I can't use ALL my favorite weapons in my favorite chassis. Speaking of challenge, this game set will also appeal to a wide range of skill levels. I wind up playing the MW series on it's highest difficulty, and have yet to actually beat it. The graphics are now a touch outdated, but when you consider the gameplay, and the dynamic storylines in both Vengeance and Mercenaries, the game is well worth the price.

I'd like to first start off by Saying that a Joystick is almost required to have a Rewarding Experience here.

I remember I got this game for the holidays from my mother the Year it came out. I had to have been 12 years old. I wanted it because my sister's boyfriend gave me his copy of Mechwarrior 3 and I never put it down. I played this game a lot. TO me this was the best Series in Gaming history. Vengeance was probably the best online game of it's time community and stability wise, there was very little glitching taking place, never heard of anyone hacking, and from what I hear this is still the case. Single player in Vengeance was decent, the FMV cutscenes were a joke, the story line was Inner-Sphere based, which I didn't enjoy too much at all. However if you just focussed on the combat, the game was perfect.

I got the Black Knight expansion the day it came out, I wasn't quite as impressed, there were way too many Escort Missions where you had to protect convoys. But the Multiplayer was the same thing as before with New Mechs, which were great additions to gameplay especially Team play liek Capture the flag. they actually removed 2 gametypes I believe of Black Knight. Attriction and Team Attriction. The scoring system of the game type never really made a lot of sense anyhow. It was based on the Damage you did, and not kills. So I believe you were down to Death Match, Team Death Match, King of the Hill, Team King of the Hill, and Capture the flag. There might have been another game type like Rabbit or something, I remember it vaguely it's been years. But it was still the Fun I remembered though I still primarily played Vegeance, because a lot of clan members were from Eastern European countries and had pirated versions of the original game, and couldn't run Black Knight, it's worth it if you know people that play it.

The Clan and Inner Sphere Mech Paks aren't Included with this Box, but buy them if you intend to have a decent time in Mercenaries.

Mercenaries is where Perfection was Reached, even without the Mech Paks if you were a good pilot you still had tons of fun. Mercs is stand alone to the original and BK has all the Mechs of both of those, and the Single PLayer in it offers almost Unlimited Depth and Replayablility. You chose what Missions you wanted, your price, ect. THe Multiplayer in Mercs got alittle weird, as there weren't a lot of Original Build servers out there, a lot of people Disappointed with the cancelation of Mechwarrior 5 joined modding teams with Mektek which was a 3rd Party site that upgraded Mercenaries, which added new Mechs and weapons to the game as well as gametypes. I believe that project is now dead, and there's been a return of classic Servers recently. I plan on Reinstalling this game as soon as I get ahold of a decent Joystick since my old ForceFeadback x2 is apparently not compatible with Windows XP.

This software is really cool, it has more than one CD/DVD that is XP compatible. It works with some Vista but you have to run as administrator to really get it to work. I hope to see it re-released in a form for the next windows in 2010. It is graphics heavy and takes up a lot of space. I suggest putting it on an auxillary drive and having an icon on your desktop to keep down the hard disc usage. If you have ever read any of these books and wished you could get into a battlemech this might be your chance,

Husband seems to love it, perhaps a little too much for my liking . . .

Based on how much my husband apparently enjoys playing this game, I think it probably deserves five stars. He doesn't seem to ever get tired of it and there is also this "online" feature where you can play interactively with others on the internet. It appears to be one of his favourite games for the PC, besides Star Trek Klingon Academy.

The game senerios are great training and alot of fun. But I found the most satisfaction playing online with others. Working together as a team to try and beat another group of people on a different team. Online gaming is free once you have purchased the base game. There are several organized ladder leagues that have lots of people that want to have fun too. A good example is www.Mechwarriorleagues.com. There you can find a ton of additional maps and patches for new mech types.
The game runs alot like a 1st person shooter, but you are piloting a giant robot like machine: a Mech. Because you are in a big "Mech" you don't die with 1 or 2 shots like alot of shooter games, which makes this a good LAN party game as well. Friends that have never played it before can join in and have fun without feeling that they are just another target for person that is more experienced at this game.

I got this game and expected it to be similar to the other Mech Warrior games in the series. The only thing that is really the same was the controls. The gameplay is smooth and enjoyable and the later versions have better graphics and gameplay options. You have the ability to customize your mech as you see fit, the options are nearly unlimited as to what you can do with it. There is online game play as well, the servers are free, but sometimes they are short of players.

A giant step backwards into dog poo, classic Microsoft mashing of a great concept

My son and I have played Mechwarrior 3 for several years, and really loved it!

I held off for the longest time in getting Mechwarrior 4 because I had read that the graphics were not as good and the robots did not move as well/realistically as in Mechwarrior 3.

Well, the prices kept dropping, and finally one day, bored out of my brain, I saw this MW4 compilation on Amazon.com at a really cheap price, and so I got it.

WOW! Despite the low expectations, the game turned out to be even worse than I had expected. How to characterize MW4 other than to say that it is closer to Mechwarrior 2 in terms of the graphics and motion realism of the giant robots than to Mechwarrior 3?

If you read the reviews carefully, you will see what I mean. People who have played Mechwarrior 3 and really, really liked its graphics and realism will hate MW4, because MW4 is a giant step backwards in both areas. People who have never played any Mechwarrior games might like MW4, but believe me, MW3 is better. People who really liked MW2 will probably like MW4 because the robotic action in MW4 is very similar to MW2, and MW4 is basically a slightly improved version of MW2, with online play also available.

One would think that computer software, especially a graphically driven computer game, could only get better and more realistic with each new version. NOT!

How could this atrocity of a game happen, you might wonder? Well, the makers of the Mechwarrior series went through a series of ownership changes and finally were sold to Darth Bill and his latte-drinking Evil Empire.

How do you spell bad software? M-I-C-R-O-S-O-F-T

My son didn't like this game either. And so I wanted to return this piece of dog poo, but found out that Amazon.com would at most give only half credit for opened computer software, plus charge for the return shipping. I calculated that would leave me with all of about $5, which probably wouldn't cover the cost of gasoline to drive to the Post Office or UPS.

So beware.

One of the best games ever, worthy of the Mechwarrior namesake

This game is a great deal of fun. Mechwarrior 2 is my all time favorite game... Mechwarrior 3 fell well short of expectations. Then came, finally, Mechwarrior 4.

The game play is dynamic and fast paced. The weapons behave in a "realistic" manner. Damage is inflicted in a life like way also. For example, destroy a leg and the mech hobbles and can no longer go in reverse.

The graphics are a touch old, but still look great. The sounds are also great.

The different levels, recruit to veteran, offer vastly different challenges. I had to start again because the game was too difficult, recruit turned out to be just right.

Anyway, buy this game!
