Our whole family highly dislikes this game. We purchased it because of great reviews on Amazon, yet this game doesn't have enough save points and after 30 minutes we got tired of replaying the same paths over and over again, each time with less ammo.

I love the Ratchet and Clank series. I was waiting for the 3rd game to come out. It did. This game stinks! The weapons are totally stupid, the upgrades are dumb for them, the levels even stink! The only good part is that you sit back and get to listen to the good story parts more often. [...]

The worst in the series, but still fun

Now, you all remember Spyro the Dragon. That one was fun. Then came the sequel and it was even better. Then the third and it was the best!!! Then, Insomniac Games created Ratchet & Clank. The first one was excellent, the second one was a bit toned down but still, great. Now, the third one is unquestionably, the worst one.

The graphics are nice, flawed, but nice. The characters were well done and the locations too. The weapons were cool and also the gadgets, vendors and just everythng. But it was flawed.

The sound is unbeleavable. James Arnold Taylor (JAT :P)is Ratchet and he does great as the role of the hero. David Kaye is Clank like in the other two but JAT was only in going commando then this :P. Now all of the voices were fantastic and so was the SFX and music.

The gameplay is flawed. The second one had armour that you were not ordered to buy and you could pass on with the game without byuing it. Now you HAVE to buy it in order to survive. Have an lower armour upgrade and the enemies will flatted you off in 2 seconds. Have the upgrade and the enemies will be dead easy. And that is just one of the problems.

Let me tell you something: This game is equally easy and short. I have already won it 10 times and boy it is just boring now. I have purchased everything, all gadgets all weapons all mega versions and I have about 20 million bolts right now and nothing to buy. Winning this game has became awfully easy. One of the few fun parts is the Courtney Gears boss fight. The music, the enemies, the location... never gets boring.

Now this must mean I do not recommend this game. Well, it is fun for the first 2 times you beat it, then it gets booooooooring. Rent it. You will probably beat it 5 times then, and then you have gotten enough. A rental only but if you must have a platformer, then maybe buy it. But I warned you, this game gets pretty dull...

Graphics
Characters: 9.5- Nice but flawed. Doesn't beat Jak 3
Animation: 10- Stunning and really good
Locations: 8.0- Equally bright and murky :P
Items/Weapons: 9.0- Looks nice but a little too creative...
Effects/Explosions: 5.0- Repeative, really repeative
Overall: 7.5- As I said before, nice but flawed.

Sound
Voices: 9.5- Ratchet, Courtney Gears and Q-Force are best
SFX: 7.0- Basic Ratchet stuff
Effects/Explosions: 4.5- A minus... too repeative
Music: 7.5- Crappy Metropolis Remix drags it down
Overall: 5.5- Could be much better. Flawed and repeative.

Gameplay
Ratchet: 6.5- Good but flawed... sigh... so many flaws
Clank: 4.0- Gadgebots and lousy weaponry drags it down
Quark: 7.5- Limited guns but fun retro makeover make Quark best
Overall: 4.5- Repeative and flawed.

Overall: 4.5- Nope, a rental, not a buy.

Should you buy it: No
Should you rent it: Yes
Should you avoid it: Yes
Should you try it out: Yes

Final scrore: Not good.

Go on, buy Jak 3 or something...

worst

I understand that the online component to this game is a large part of what makes it so well-received. For the vast majority of us who are stuck with single-player only, this game is good, but not distinguished.

Gameplay remains virtually unchanged from Ratchet 2, except that a number of features of Ratchet 2 (and Ratchet 1) have been dropped, not the least of which is the grind boots and skateboarding levels. While the games have always been linear, this one takes it to an extreme; few levels have the branching pathways that were de rigueur for the predecessors.

In the game's defense, it still is a heck of a lot of fun. And the voice acting/humor level is pretty good for a video game. But for a player not taking advantage of the online elements, its Greatest Hits predecessors will give you a lot more bang for the buck (assuming you haven't completed them already).

A lot of fun, but ultimately disappoints.

How you rate this game probably depends on whether you have online capabilities or not. If you have, then it'll doubtless take this series to new heights. But unfortunately, though I got a lot of fun out of many of the levels, I couldn't help feeling it wasn't anything really new. The cartoon sequences and the vocal acting are as good as ever, and the graphics look great. Problems arise in the last levels when you have umpteen robots, including flying ones, shooting at you from all directions. Maybe the creators of this game wanted to show how many enemies they can put on the screen at once, but the weapons in this game aren't really up to the standard of the ones in the previous games (the black holes and the shields are next to useless). You're forced to constantly backtrack through earlier levels just to pick up more bolts, and after a while this becomes repetative.
If you haven't played Ratchet and Clank before, you'll probably like this, and if you have online facilities then add a couple of stars to the score. Otherwise, this is one to rent rather than buy.

Fun but very dissapointing

Being an avid player of the Ratchet and Clank games I was thrilled to hear a third was coming. This game is fun but not as fullfilling as the first game. When I got the first game, I loved it. It took a long time to beat and the weapons were awesome. I love the originial health system with 4,5, and 8 chances to get hit rather than the new increasing health as you play. With the new health it's much easier not as fun. I was very dissapointed by the lack of items and gadjets. No more having to get the gadjets. There are only like 5 gadjets and 5 items (unless you count vid comics) You start out with most of the ones from the previous games and don't get anything new and cool. It was really fun getting the thruster pack and 02 mask in the first game. Another dissapointment is that there aren't any hoverboarding/biking races. The levels aren't as long and most don't have two different objectives (in the first game you would get a gadget and an infobot in a lot of the levels. I hate the arena and battle field missions as well as the sewer crystals (they get you bolts but aren't fun and are boring).

It seems as though Insomniac is focusing on blowing stuff up and weapons rather than cool gadjets and story line (the story line was the worst part...it sucked).

I also hate the way you upgrade the weapons-KEEP IT SIMPLE IT'S MORE FUN!

Insomniac needs to stay originial, develop new gadgets, ideas, longer and harder levels, and work on the story line.

I still had lots of fun playing the game

I'd give the first game 10/10
the second 8/10
and this one a surprising 6-7/10
hopefully the next will be better.

If you're a Ratchet and Clank addict (like me) it's still worth every penny. If not get it anyway (but buy the first one first!)

It's good, But not as much fun as I hoped

It has some nice new wepons, but it is alot harder than Ratchet and Clank 1 or 2. I thik it must have been intended to be played online rather than single player, I just find it hard to get past some of the enimies early in the game, if there were two or more people blasting away it would be simple. If I had a broadband connection I would try playing online but I don't. I wish there was some way to use these new wepons while playing Ratchet and Clank 2, they did offer the wepons from the first game to be purchased in Two. I can't find any Game Shark codes for this game, It might be more fun witn infinite life, Both 1, and 2 had many codes but not this one.
