I am a big fan of the series and I think this game is great, but there is a problem. This game strays away from the usual comedic style of the sries, and it is a little short but otherwise game and it's worth playing, and if your not a big fan of the series i recommend renting it.

Fun, but straying

This game rocks, but it does stray away from the original gameplay. The guns are the best though, and the game looks cool in the first-person view, and makes it more challenging. I have beaten this game over 20 times now, but I still find it hard to be in FPS view and on hardest mode. This way even the weakest enemy can get you from behind or the sides, as you cannot see there. This mode makes it funner for the ones who have been complaining.

I'm with Lisa Shea on this one

Let me say that I love the Ratchet and Clank series. Each successive title in the series has added something new and fun to the game, while taking little, if anything, off the table. I hate to say it, but Deadlocked is the lone exception. While still a very fun game, I too was unhappy about being limited to Gladiator, arena combat. This was my least favorite, and least played, of the R&C games, with the very first one being a close second in the least fav. category. Personally, "Going Commando" and "Up your Arsenal" were far and away the two best games of the series. There was so much more variety in those two games. I just didn't like the fact that the platforming aspect was completely stripped out of "Deadlocked". Also, the number and variety of the weapons, the true stars of the games, were lacking in "Deadlocked". If you're a die-hard fan of the series, you'll enjoy "Deadlocked". Just don't expect it to live up to the lofty expectatations created by the previous entries.

Why would you like Ratchet and Clank? You would like it because it is the most awesome game of the year. You will keep on playing it and playing it with your friends and maybe even with your mom and dad. The motto of this game is `'in this battle only one will survive''. Control Ratchet and his friends to successfully take down an evil alien media show caster and his evil empire. It will take require you to perform and strategize at your max. Now go destroy some evil alien media maniac to save the day. If you have played all the Ratchet and Clank games then you will love this one. Get in the drivers seat of the new playable vehicles like the all terrain land stalker, the speedy hover bike and the devastating puma. Try all the all new weapon mode system to make the best weapon possible. Customise your weapons arsenal with virtually limitless combinations. This is just a taste of the game. Throughout the missions there is also a story you can follow and you also get two fighter robots at your side which you can customize. They are always at your side while you are battling the Galaxies most feared fighters. If you like fantasy shooting game, I guaranty that you'll like this amazing game. I also suggest you buy the other Ratchet and Clank games for unlimited fighting action. If you what the game to be easier or harder just switch the difficulty level. It starts from couch potato to exterminator. If you're looking for action I suggest you buy this. This game is raided T for teen.

An Average Game That Only Die-Hard Fans Should Check Out.

Ratchet: Deadlocked is a disappointment to be perfectly honest. Having loved Jet Force Gemini I was hoping for this game to really be on par with it.

The game's main problem stems from the fact that the levels are designed in arena like areas filled with enemies and often a 'go to/kill that/push that' objective, then after beating that area you move onto the next area and do it again and so on. A few times the level will change things up and put you in a vehicle or put you on a time limit or score limit but often the game is simply doing one thing over and over again and once you find that right combination of weapon modification the difficulty and repetitiveness just becomes repetitive boredom. This game is apparently a huge departure from all the other Ratchet & Clank games so I believe this game is the black sheep of the franchise.

However, the game is not a complete failure, its' humor, both spoken and visual, are absolutely hilarious! Listening to the chatter of your gun drones and the Newscasters was top notch shtick. The graphics put on a great show with the PS2's hardware with some levels being absolutely gorgeous. The weapons are fun and chaotic to use as well as explore with different combinations and experience.

My experience in the game's multi-player has been inconsistent. At the very worst, it is absolute trash and at the very best it has been, to a degree, enjoyable. My first game was a 4 vs 4 Capture the Flag Match and all weapons and vehicles were turned off except the Sniper Rifle, basically an instant-kill match. My second was a 3 vs 3 Capture the Flag, again instant-kill. I hate instant-kill sniper matches, because you'll get killed by someone halfway across the map without ever seeing him or having the option to fight back and I was disappointed to observe that about half the online matches are the same. My third match was a 3 vs 3 Team death match with vehicles and all weapons. Very very enjoyable, though honestly nothing special.

I don't really recommend the game for non-die hard fans, though pock marked with some fun, it's of average quality and not worth your time. Unless you're really strapped for an online shooter game, because there are better alternatives.

Reality TV at its best.

The Ratchet and Clank series certainly has evolved. The first two games were platformers with heavy running and gunning elements. The third game threw out the platforming elements for the most part, turning it into an action game with limited platforming elements. And it also introduced a new element, Annihilation Nation. And that was basically just a series of boss battles and free-for-alls with very dangerous platforming thrown in here and there that let you choose your challenges and battles. Apparently someone got the bright idea to make an entire game out of Annihilation Nation, because that's EXACTLY what Deadlocked is. An entire game of Annihilation Nation.

In traditional Ratchet and Clank manner, the plot is both wacky and simple (and a bit humorous). A crazed TV executive is kidnapping superheroes and forcing them to fight in tournament death-matches. A bit cliché' but definitely fun and exciting for a premise. Early on you are introduced to a simple interface for accessing missions in whichever order you wish as you unlock them, and upgrading your weapons and armor (very similar to the starship of Ratchet and Clank 3).

Actually, the game feels more like a cartoonish squad-based first-person shooter than anything else, albeit limited in the squad. You see, the whole game can be played cooperatively, and when you go solo you get two funny robots to follow you around and do your bidding in simple ways (they can lower zip-lines, turn bolts, and protect each other, as well as blasting enemies and repairing each other). And since the missions are all very short, and the game has multiple difficulty levels which can be adjusted any time you aren't actually in a mission, the game has an extremely low frustration factor.

The real fun of this game is of course the action. As your weapons get upgraded and modded (you can add electroshock and freezing to any weapon among other things), and more and more enemies attack you all at once, the action gets truly INSANE. Truly, this game just might have the most frantic battles of any I have ever played, as enemies constantly attack in wave after wave and are instantly blown to bits in massive explosions of firepower. In the later levels, this game can get very loud indeed.

It's not all fun and games though. This game does have flaws. First of all, it's rather on the short side. While it does have replay value like the previous game, encouraging you to replay the game with upgraded weapons and higher difficulty, it would have been nice to have a bit more game to play through with more of a climax. And the plot itself just isn't all that interesting after the initial setup. There simply aren't any surprises in this game, as you just play through level after level with simple throw-the-switches and blow-the-devices-and-bosses objectives. While your robot pals are kind of fun in the things they say, they say the same things over and over. And the commentators. OH...GOOD...GRIEF! They are supposed to be annoying. I understand that. But they are SO ANNOYING! And most of the cut scenes seem to be them saying stupid stuff. And during the battles, they keep saying the same stupid annoying lines over and over and over and over....are we annoyed yet? Honestly, this game would gain a star if the two annoying commentators were axed. Oh, and while I'm discussing flaws, why is there no energy whip weapon? Some very cool weapons were eliminated from the previous game and replaced. And if you ask me, the weapons while passable, simply aren't as good as in the last game.

And lastly, the lack of variety includes playing every level solo except for your bots (unless you are in cooperative mode). With all those OTHER heroes kidnapped, at the start of the game I was really hoping for some cooperative action with other characters ala Jak and Daxter. But alas... no. And while the vehicle segments do break up the action on foot here and there, this game just could have used some more variety.

If you loved Annihilation Nation and couldn't get enough, go ahead and buy this game. If you are a Ratchet completist and gotta have 'em all go ahead and buy this game. If you just kinda like the series you may want to rent. Personally I just can't get enough of this kind of game. I bought it. :)

Ratchet Deadlocked is a shooter game. Unlike all the previous games in the series, it's just about shooting the crap out of everything in sight. The cut scenes are the best I've seen in any R&C game, probably because they are so needed to smooth out the endless string of arena battles. While this game takes away the platformer aspect of the series, it features the best Graphics, weapons and gameplay on a PS2 for the whole series. Definitely worth whatever great price amazon is selling it for now.
