Fantastic!

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 9 / 9

Promising much, this 2004 offer from Codemasters was seen by many as a sort of stop-gap solution between SPlinter Cell and Metal Gear releases, being that it boasts a similar stealth-versus-firepower experience of gameplay and mission-based levels.

Thanks in no small part to one of the most enjoyable plotlines ever to appear in a videogame, as well as an intuituve and responsive control system, 'Second Sight' becomes far more than MGS' Poor Relation, and stands alone as a worthwhile game in its own right.

GRAPHICS: 5
Exaggerated human characters run about in exquisitely-detailed environments while retaining a vastly impressive frame rate. Power effects are grogeous to look at and the effect of possessing the Enemy for a short time can't be beat. The camera, as with all games of this nature, does cause some minor problems from time to time, but this is thankfully correctable.

SOUND: 5
Brilliant voice acting, maybe some of the best ever in a video game, each character stands apart as a separate being with real talent giving life to the script. Sound effects are similarly high-end with realistic screams, gunshots and crashing sounds. The musical score is orchestral and hugely atmospheric, and the whole game soundtrack is very highly polished.

PLAYABILITY: 5
Excellent. The myriad special powers and weapons may seem overwhelming at first, but you're gradually introduced to the new you via a series of training levels that gets the learning curve just perfectly right. No Bosses (except for the very final battle) gives the game more of a sense of the organic and this may be the first game I've ever played where there actually is more than one viable solution to every problem. Total freedom of choice and movement, coupled with an excellent control system, make this a joy to play.

LASTING FACTOR: 3
This is where Second Sight falls down. Bar two extremely tough levels, everything else is pretty much a case of one-try success. There are a lot of levels, but many are very, very short, and while enemies are everywhere, it is totally possible to go throguh an entire level without ever having to draw your gun. Replay Value is high, though, with secret mini-games and other such goodies waiting to be uncovered, so this isn't all bad.

OVERALL: 4
Had this game been a little longer and a little harder it would have been an unequivocal classic. As it is, it's still an excellent, excellent piece of software which no fan of story-based action/stealth ought to be without. Recommended very highly!

The best of the best... with one exception

Second Sight is one the few games with both a great storyline and great action. Everything is good except that some of the missions are very difficult with vert few clues along the way. Otherwise, this game is the best.
For example, what other game allows you to pick up people using telekensis power and throw them out windows!
You get to play the hero John Vatick in the present and in a flashback. As the game progresses you uncover the hero's mysterious past. It's a perfect mixture of brain and brawn.

The graphics are superb. I saw no flaws.

Originallity to the max... storyline at least

This game is incredible. When I First played it on a demo, I liked it. But I can't help thinking about Timesplitters when playing this because the bulgy, comic-like character design from Free Radical is in all of their games. It makes the game a little less dramatic and more well, timesplitters. Besides that. The game brings in the psychic powers impressingly; It's not gimmicky, you can't go around and just blow up everthing and everyone but the game never forgets about your powers and there's always something new to do, whether it's levatate a gun out of a window to you, remove a wooden board blocking a door, or move a lever, and that's just Telekinesis.

Free radical has a way with guns. It's so much fun to aim the gun up and press fire, I love this game and I am so happy I didn't pass this up

Fantastic Game

At first I was frustrated with this game, because it was difficult to understand. But after a little research I got it going and then it was a great adventure from beginning to end. I highly reccomend this game, if you enjoy stealth and action playing games. This game takes you through the live of a Doctor equiped with special psychic abilities, who is trying to stop the goverment from using children to become diablolical killers. A great story line that takes you through some terrific fight scenes. You will see how the children lead the Dr. to them, and what he must do to save them. Check it out, I think you will like it. I sure did.

UNIQUE... dazzling and GREAT FUN!!

The second I put SECOND SIGHT in... the images won me over.

The animation is great, but the creators also have a great cinematic sense. A lot of games have really beautiful cut scenes and then it cuts to the game and those beautiful cut scenes are replaced with something lesser... not here. NOT THIS GAME. The cut scenes blend beautifully... the cut scenes are just as pristine and drawn as the images when you're in control.

This is one of... if not the, most engrossing gave I've ever played. It gets you involved. You get drawn into the character and the mystery of who he is and what happened to him. You participate in his present day situation where he is escaping from a hospital and searching for his identity and you also go back to his early military days when he trains with weapons and participates in action as a sniper as a normal military person.

You can heal yourself, make yourself invisible for a certain period of time, eradiate bursts of dangerous and deadly energy, split your body in two as you stay safe somewhere and your apparition goes forward to do tasks... and that's just the beginning.

This game is fantastic. I'm so glad I bought it and I certainly recommend it for anyone who hasn't played it.

No need to rent... for the price that AMAZON has posted here... that's a steal!! The replay value on this game is great. You'll love it.

An Overlooked Gem...

I don't understand what happened to this game. I guess Psi-Ops (the other psychic game that came out last year) had the better press campaign and, thus, nobody heard about this one. I actually had employees at the game shop telling me that I was taking a risk in trying this one because they hadn't heard anything about it...

They were VERY wrong...

This is one of the rare games that gets all of the components right.

THE STORY- is very engrossing- I beat the game in several marathon sittings just because I HAD to see how things turned out. It's safe to say that the story in this game was surpassed only (in my experience) by the Soul Reaver/Legacy of Kain series. Everything else pales in comparison.

THE MUSIC- was also fantastic. This is one of those games where I really want the soundtrack. I'm going to have to see whether there's any way to hunt it down. More and more, I'm encountering game soundtracks that best many film scores (Primal is the best example of this)

THE GRAPHICS- The game looks beautiful. The character models should remind you of the SLIGHTLY cartoony style that the Timesplitters characters had, although the effect is muted here. Other than that, everything is rendered very well. This title is definitely WELL above average in my large PS2 library.

THE GAMEPLAY- Imagine this. There are 4 guys down the hall shooting at you. You go for cover. Then you use telekinesis to move an explosive crate through the air over to where the guys are. You switch to your guns and shoot the crate....no more bad guys. This is simply one example of the very fun and surprisingly non-linear gameplay found here. By the end of the game, you have several guns but more importantly, a large arsenal of psychic powers. The level of strategy that can be utilized here is commendable. Second sight ranks highly both as an action game or as a stealth game- depending on your style of play.

I'm very picky when it comes to games, and I don't finish very many. I keep even fewer to put on my "shelf of fame", and Second Sight well deserves its place there. The game is cheap now, so pick it up!

One of the best games for PS2!

What a game! I rented this game last week not knowing what exactly to expect, but after experiencing it, I can honestly say this is a game that I would go out and purchase. This game is a classic example of the action/role-playing genre PS2 has to offer.

The premise of Second Sight is to solve the forgotten past of the game's hero, John Vattic. The game begins as Vattic awakes in a hospital, having no recollection of how he got there. As you make your way through the different levels, the storyline takes you back to the events that unfolded prior to Vattic's admittance to the hospital.

The graphics, music and storyline in the game are as compelling as the new abilities that you pick up with each completed level. Use these abilities carefully, as there will be situations in the game where you will be required to use certain abilities for certain scenarios.

The puzzles are challenging, and at times, a bit frustrating. But I consider this to be an added quality to the game as opposed to a flaw, because it requires you to think carefully about what must be done to solve the objectives for each level.

Another nice addition to the game is that if you die or make a mistake, you can easily pick right up where you left off, as there are several "checkpoints" within each level.

Perhaps the only negative aspect this game has to offer is that once you begin a level, you cannot save your progress. In other words, once a level has started, you must see it out 'til the end, which can be time-consuming.

My general opinion about Second Sight is that while it's probably not one of the more popular games out there, it's one of the best PS2 has to offer. The reason why I say that is because the concept, graphics, music and gameplay were very well thought-out. I'd definitely recommend it for teens and adults, although due to some disturbing images and violence, it's probably not a game for children. Hope this review was helpful!

This Sux! No, not really, I GIVE IT 18 MILLION STARS OUT OF

This game is so cool. You get the coolest powers ever, including telekinesis, psi attack, charm, projection, healing, and POSSESION. The levels and graphics look really awesome. The only thing is the music freaks me out! Its like theres a ghost in the hood. This game is just the right difficulty. This game is definetly going on my birthday list. And to the guy who bragged about having the first review, HA! FIRST REVIEW OF THE YEAR BIAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATCH!

A must buy game. Get the PC version. Better graphics!!

The PC version has the best graphics.
The story is fantastic.
The story has the same quality as games like Syberia I&II, The Longest Journey, and Shadow of Destiny.
The graphics are great too.
It's hard to tell between the cutscenes and actual gameplay.

There is more than one way to play the game.
Here is an example:
There are 5 guys down the hall with rifles.
You can:
A: Use Telekinesis to frighten them buy moving stuff around or use it to hit them with stuff.
B: Use Projection to possess one of the guards and get him to shoot the others.
C: Use Charm to make yourself invisible and walk past them unnoticed. It won't work if there are security cameras.
D: Just shoot them with either a gun or tranqualizer dart.

Cons:
The game only saves at the end of each level.
There are checkpoints that you can start at in each level if you die but if you quit the game before reaching the end of a level you will have to start that level over from the beginning.

The best feature of the game in my opinion is the story.
If you like a great story and a game with time travel this is the game for you.

There is a game guide by Prima that tells how to beat the game and alot more.

Totally Awesone, Dude!! Ten Stars!!

17 jam-packed levels full of action, mystery, and great fun!
What I like about it is mostly the psychic powers. I really like the telekinesis power, 'cause I like to pick stuff up and smash it onto the bad guys. It's actually the first power you get. I also like the awesome weapons. Really like the flashbacks into the team-work missions. The best game ending I've ever seen! But don't skip the movies or the game will make no sense at all.
Second Sight is great and I recommend that you get it as soon as possible. Stop reading this review and click on "Add to Cart" now!
