WHY M!?

1 Rating: 1, Useful: 4 / 71

I am fourteen years old, love ancient Rome, but am not allowed to play this game. Why M? First of all it was poor marketing not to rate it T because that would make a wider audience. Im not insulting the game itself, but rather the company who made it and you can say anything you want to, but am I not right?

There's a difference between challenging and difficult....

This game looks and plays great. Unfortunately, the people who made this game don't seem to realize that video games are supposed to be entertaining and not frustrating. I beat the game in "normal" difficulty but there were lots of struggles (and cursing) along the way. I would give this game a higher rating if not for the cheap diffulty level. If I wanted to test my skills by fighting hard battles, I'd choose "hard mode". That's the reason why some games allow you to choose the level of difficulty. The "normal mode" in this one, however is like "extreme" in most other games. I don't think I would want to try the "extreme mode" or even the "hard mode" on this one. Don't buy if you don't have alot of patience! The only thing that kept me trying to beat this game was the story, which I should say was pretty good.

Just okay

The game is alright. Like with many games these days, way too much effort was put into the theatrical intros. The story plot follows the movie Gladiator almost to the T, with a little inconsequencial julius caesar filler story. The fighting is good, but only requires timing to get down. This is by no means a strategy game. I am almost done with it, and I haven't had to think once yet, so I assume the rest is the same. The character switching is lame. Don't listen to the fake reviewers that make it sound all cool. This is the same old same old, but what did you expect. It had been so long since I have played a good game, I took a gamble thinking that the reviews here on amazon were somewhat acurate, but was wrong.

2 stars for zero bugs and good 3d environments.

Why Stealth, WHY?!?!?!?!?!?

What is the obsession game developers have with stealth these days. Like some of the other reviewers here, I agree that the gladiator/soldier fighting is great. The control system is very intuitive and easy to pick up. If it wasn't for the stupid stealth parts (Octavianus) this game would get a "five." I can only hope there is a sequel with fighting only and none of these REALLY LAME stealth missions. Because the stealth parts are SO BAD; this game is not worth buying for $50. Rent it first! I might go back and buy this one six to eight months from now when it's down to $20, but not now. GAME DEVELOPERS PLEASE STOP WITH THE STUPID STEALTH ALREADY!!!!!!!!!!!

Great game for you blood thirsty people. Stealth levels ruin it!

Honestly I love a good Bloody kill them all game, and Shadow of Rome is my overall favorite.. But when it falls into the category of stealth, it SUCKS! The stealth levels are hard to beat! But, if you are a die hard Splinter Cell/Metal Gear Fan(I know I am) DO NOT BUY THIS GAME! But, if you just do the stupid stealth levels, and get to the killing levels, then THIS GAME IS RIGHT FOR YOU GOD OF WAR FANS!

There's no doubt the game is fun and challenging but...

It probably should be banned for violence.. Cutting off arms, heads, bone crushing ect.. In a strange way it is educational of Rome and the old Empire.. The game engine is very good as the characters are very well simulated.. The history lessons are good but it's a little bit twisted and one-sided but an intelligent enough person can dig a little deeper to find truths.. Interestingly these characters existed and you can look them up too.. Being Dutch I understand in that era my kind was a hated enemy of Rome so I look at the history of it from a different angle and notice the bits and pieces of history they choose to leave out completly like what really happened between Germanic and Roman tribes..
You know what happened the Roman way was to treat others like animals and reward (elitism) those that supported the Roman Empire..
With that said it does have alot of action which is interupted by journeys (sometimes boring) you have to take to get trough to the end..
I tried to complete it without getting tips but it is virturally impossible.. So there you have it a 3 star game.. See ya!

LOVE THE KILLING BUT HATE THE SNEAKING AROUND!

Ok this game could have been AWESOME if they only kept half of it and dumped the rest. The fighting is awesome with huge combat areas, blodd and gore, gruesome death scenes, a huge variety of weapons, and tons of combos to discover. BUT!!!!! Nooooooo, Capcom had to add these stupid stealth/sneaking around missions. 1/2 the game you play as an awesome gladiator but the other half you are this wimpy roman Dewey who tries to sneak into rooms and houses without being seen (this is required over and over for no real purpose). What do you get out of all this stupid sneaking around? Coins!??? That's it? Oh how exciting, I can buy new outfits for my character...BIG DEAL! (Yawn). The sad part about it is that you are forced to play through these tedious levels in order to advance through the story. You also can't skip the long and often stupid cut scenes. I couldn't wait to get to the next big gladiator challenge but kept getting interrupted by these stupid sneaking missions. Do yourself a favor and go online to get a walkthrough for these sections. Don't get me wrong though, this game has some great parts (the fighting!) Even the chariot races are kind of cool, however, if I wanted stealth sneaking I'd buy Metal Gear Solid for goodness sakes. Overall the action/fighting should get 5 stars while the sneaking around missions should get 1 star. It really detracts from an otherwise great game. The story is nice too.

This game is worth the 12 dollars I paid for it. Someone mentioned in an earlier review that the targeting system for the character is off. I agree. It is difficult to target grounded enemies and slow to move about in this game. Having said that, I like the brutality and the different weapons in the game. The targeting system doesn't really allow you to attack specific body parts so the game just gives you different outcomes when using different weapons at different attack angles. You can sever an ememy's arm, pick it up, and whale on him with it. Fun stuff! The cut-scenes are cool but can not be passed.

A challenge and so so funny.

I pulled an all nighter playing this game. The graphics were great and I enjoyed the battle scenes. Its the average bad guy wants to conquer Rome, bad guy murders Ceasar, a Innocent man is blamed for it, and a annoying blond guy is searching for the answer. You play two roles, Agrippa and octavious. Agrippa, who becomes a gladiator to find his dad, and Octavious who is searching for the answer to ceasars death. The weapons are temporary and you have to pursuade guards before they kill you. As you progress through the game, at some point things will get annoying but that could be remedied by having octavious slip on a banana peel...or get stung by bees.
In short, it is a fun game and if you have the patience you can beat it.
If you enjoy challenges and pulling an all nighter playing a game, this would be the one.

In two words, Nice... Smooth...

Agrippa is a centurion in the Roman army. Patroling the outskirts of Germania, his regimant hapens upon a captured roman messenger, who tells him Ceaser has been assasinated. Arriving home his friend, informs him that Agrippa's own father has been arrested for the murder. The Roman empire decides to hold gladitorial games and the winner will execute Agrippa's father... You cannot lose.

Since Amazon doesn't carry this title anymore, I had to buy it from sam's club for like 15$ Sam's is not a bad place to buy old games, I've seen Silent Hill 2 there as well.

From start to finish this game offers one of the best stories I've played in a long time. In fact, this has one of the best stories I've ever heard of. Sure those of you who have just seen Gladiator may find a closeresemblance [even though it's just the gladiator part], this is an exelent plot, which is why i've given it two stars for just the plot alone [for those of you familiar with my reviews, this is the first time I've ever given 2 stars for a plot].

I give it 1 star for graphics. The eviornments are some of the best i've ever seen in a ps2 game. You know the graphics are superb when you hardly notice the intricacy of the walls because you're so into the game, but when you do look at the walls and notice the archittecure is so right, and the small cracks here and there are visible only to those who look, it's really good graphics. One star for the graphics.

As for the fighting, I give it a star for showing the shere brutality of the gladitorial arena in such detail that, the first time you play it, you forget it's a game. one star for the game play.

As for the rest, well I just have one problem. If this game has such good graphics, and a story you could only hope to watch in a high budget movie, add in the great gladitorial battles, why couldn't they do the little things? there are certain details the makes forgot about or just simply didn't do. It would be so cool to be able to buy your own armor and weapons that lasted a few more than just 10 hits or so. Just minor things like that is all. Not exacally all that bad. However the sneaking around seconddary plot line gets a bit annoying at times, seeing as how we're living in a post metal gear solid age where, sneaking just isnt the same...

One of the best qualities to this game is it's dificulty. Enough of a challenge for any gamer who enjoys a good fight where even though you're really good, you can in fact lose.

Another good quality is it's longetivity. This game is comprised of chapters. yes, chapters which can last up to several hours if you have trouble, or just want to gain expierience or "salvo" or cheer points. Very fun.

However, it would have been really fun if instead of reading what people are sayin, why can't we just hear them? this is the 21st century and final fantasy 10 already did that so... someone needs to get the memo. But again, another minor low point that isnt all that low for a 15$ price tag.

all in all, really nice and smooth. Very great story that's realistic enough to keep one inerested for hours on end. This game is addictive, not because of the mindless fighting, but because one secretly wants to find out what happens next. Now if only the sneaking part were alittle more sneaky, this game would be perfect and i wouldnt even have mentioned wanting to buy my armor and weapons. But since the seaking is a bit quant for this era, one just endures it because it is also quite fun on more then one occasion.

WARNING: this game contains scenes of graphic violence and gore, however, for younger adiences, the blood can be turned off.

All in all one of the best games of 04 ive ever played, and one worthy of being on every ps2 owners shelf, unless you're a history or english buff, in which case you really should run to sam's club and buy this game like right now.

It's a star away from perfection. If only they added a little of this a little of that, this game would prolly have survived for more than it's short run, which is sad, cause this is a really fun and good game. Either it came out at the wrong time, or perhaps people just didnt notice it, seeing as how Gladius came out at the same time. However, for those of you who enjoy fighting games and like reading a little bit, this i the perfect game for you.

It's nice, and smooth. Nice for it's story, graphics, and dialague [which is superb for a game, and could rival that of any cartoon], and smooth for it's exelent gameplay and intricat graphics. Oh, did i mention you can buy items [including a tiger] for the room that you rent? Very smooth.
