A Must for Tolkien Fans

I've played Final Fantasy Online, WOW, and Tabula Rasa and am a big fan of the MMOs. If you like MMOs and are a JRR Tolkien fan, then this game is a must. The game content is very accurate to the Tolkien world and the attention to detail is amazing. You can also run this game on DX10 which makes the already awesome graphics look even better. The deeds and trait system makes the customization of characters more unique than other MMOs. Pretty easy to solo and there's some pretty cool epic quests that follow the story of the LOTR story. Give the 7-day trial a shot and you won't be disappointed.

Should have started this last year

I wanted to pick up LOTRO at launch but hesitantly did not. After a while, I lost interest. Flash forward to one year later, and I am now playing this amazing game. The character classes are all very well implememted. If you love questing and exploring, then this is the game for you. PvPers, should probably stay away. With the release of book 13, Turbine has added hobbies the first one being fishing.
Oh and the fact that it is Tolkien's world is just icing on the cake.

This game is very similar to wow only with lots of improvements. The graphics are better but its the attention to detail that really makes this game number one. Anything thats in the books is in this game. For example....in the books, when Frodo leaves the shire, they have Fatty Bolger pretend to be Frodo and live in Frodo's new house in Buckland and in the night the nazgul come after Fatty, thinking its frodo, and Fatty escapes but the cloak he was wearing gets torn off....so in the game when you go to Fatty's house hes there but the cloak that got torn off is lying on the ground outside the house. That attention to detail really impressed me.

(Ed. note: My 13 yr. old son's review) Is it just me, or is this 2$ cheaper than standard edition here? Anyway, I'm a huge Tolkien fan that had been playing Runescape and WoW the past 3 years. Last year sometime in March I was in Netherlands and I saw the pre-order in a magazine. I HAD TO GET IT! Loved the game, the way they embedded the story into it was 10x better than any other RPG I've played so far, and free huge content updates every two months. Well, now I moved to USA and decided to get special edition, for the fact being only 17$ of course, but I'm wondering, does it still come with the month free playtime?

Better than World Of Warcraft

After leaving World Of Warcraft after two and a half years, I was searching for a virtual world to escape. It needed to offer a more casual and less frantic pace to get to the top fast and less of a need to get all the best of gear for the "endgame" like WOW.I felt like I was spinning my wheels to be the best. Simply, I was in a word "burnt out" from all that. LOTRO offered a fresh start. The detailed world in LOTRO was it for me. In my opinion, it is in so many ways superior. First, the community is excellent. There are always players willing somewhere to help out new players. They even have a dedicated "Advice" chat for questions. The starting areas are simple and plain as they should be.Some of my old WOW friends that "try" this game in those early levels sometimes complain that it is so inferior to WOW. But they forget WOW has just as simple starting areas. So it is unfair to judge until experiencing all the things and places the complete game offer. And let me tell you, it offers plenty and then some. A place to enter a beloved and magical realm right out of a classical fantasy that will make every Lord Of the Rings fan feel like they are actually living in the world from the books.

Actually I would have rated it 0 star if there was a 0. because I cant get it to run. I have not used it yet. I am not great on the computer but I installed it and no go. I have to wait till my son who is a genious to come over and help me. It may be a great game, it looks like a great game. After buying it I hope I will be able to play it some day. I am not happy :-(.

Wait to buy

This game might be better one day but right now it is still way underdeveloped. There are many issues/bugs including typos in quests that really take away the spirit of the game.

There are 2 "modes" with this game, the grind/pve/mmo action and a pvp mode called Monster play. Basically in monster play you start out with a lvl 50 monster and get to PvP with the "heros" who lvled up to 50. It sounds fun but it is full of bugs and exploits. For example on every server and for every monster there is an "armour bug" that leaves me with 20 armour(it should be nearly 300). According to the developers it may not be weeks before this is fixed, in the meantime all monsters just have to deal with an extreamly unfaur advantage. And this is only one of MANY BIG issues associated with the PvP system. I would expect it will not be another 6 months until PvP is working how it should.

I think this game was rushed to release and is now suffering in many areas. I have already cancled my subscription and will wait till I hear the game is more developed. I recommend waiting a good 6 months to buy this, it does have alot of potential, just grosley underdeveloped.

This is an addictive game, granted; it's also a lot of fun. If you love Tolkien, you'll love the game, I think. I'm not a huge MMO person, and didn't play WoW... I really like RPG's, however, and I love Tolkien; this game suited me very well.

Perhaps too well!
