Great with one drawback

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 2 / 3

I love this game. It's not your mama's RPG. It has a lot of mature content in it, even if it is not the full blown UK version. I was talking to some of the "local talent" when I see a guy walk up behind me and start urinating in the street. I thought it was pretty funny. I never saw anyone do that in a game before.

As much fun as this game is, it will try your patience. It does have unreal load times when the character changes maps. It has taken up to five minutes to load some screens on my computer.

Now I have heard that if you have over 2GB of RAM, load times are a lot shorter. I just have 1 GB. There is a patch due out soon that is supposed to fix this. We'll see.

I run the game on max res and medium detal. It runs pretty good on those setting for me. I tried lower resolutions but for some reason they don't run as smoothly.

Game play is pretty good. The choice you make in the game do seem to affect the out come of many situations more than they do in similar games. This makes the game feel a bit more real to me.

I'm having a reat time with it and if they ever fix the load times, I'd give it a full 5 stars.

Beautiful RPG

I really enjoyed this game, and it's the first I've played to the end in a long time. The storyline is fascinating, the graphics are stunning, and the fighting styles are beautiful to watch. It's not as open-ended as Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, but I thought it was much more entertaining to play.

Amazing

This game is simply beautiful. While the requirements are steep and it might be necessary to turn the graphics down, they are still gorgeous. The combat is a world of fun, managing to achieve a fast pace without the repetition often found in rpgs and action games thanks to a frequent need to change stance. The story is involved, and although conversation and cinematic interludes are often awkward, they are very compelling and evocative overall, uniquely (in my experience) bringing out dark fantasy themes as well as a healthy sense of nordic-welsh heritage. The result is an rpg of high caliber and excellent composition. It makes me wonder if I've missed many treasures from eastern Europe because other companies can't afford to buy off the losers at gamespot and ign to give them coverage and reviews.

Calm Down Everything will be ok!!!

Ok this is a tough review to write because of the neverending glitches and Memory problems. As far as game play/ fun is concerned this game is simply Amazing!!! But before you can enjoy the full depth of this game you have to engage in a real world battle of blood sweat and tears that will end with you victorious, or completely exhausted and pissed off beyond imagination. I was able to run this game no problems, no glitches or bugs on a 3 year old laptop. But on a brand new machine 3.6Ghz Dualcore- 2Gb of Pc8500 mem- 10,000rpm Hdd- and dual 8800GT alpha dogs SLI- yeah right cant even load the frign game!!! tryed patches, updates you name it... WON't PLAY!!! But don't let my frustrations keep you from an unbeleavable gaming experiance! I say take a chance and buy. I loved it.

Best RPG since Baldur's Gate!

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 2 / 3

I'll keep this short. I am an avid RPG gamer most interested in storyline and graphics. The last time I was so engrossed in a game was Baldur's Gate 2. The Witcher captures everything that makes a game hard to stop playing. The story is so intriguing it's like reading a great novel.

Finally, a mature, gripping RPG that bests every other game in its genre, let alone all others (i.e. Oblivion...a very weak game). Buy this game NOW to experience what I and many others are going through with this masterpiece.

Not Very Good

Maybe it is just that Oblivion set the standard so high for RPG games but I am disappointed with this game. Graphics are only average, the game is pretty linear, combat not that fun, and much to my disappointment I just could not get into it. Maybe you will have a different experience but I would be cautious about spending over fifty bucks for this game like I did.

Not Loaded Enough

This game suffers monstrously from unforgivable load times when going from place to place. The wait is longer for some areas than others but all are simply punishing. My system far exceeds the minimum specs and I keep my rig in fine condition, I've had no similar problem with other very demanding games. This must be the sorry copy protection they have unwisely chosen, or just bad programming. It is an insult to honest people who have paid the going price for a crippled product. Other than that, everything's fine.

Horrible Combat

I have been a big fan of all the best and most popular games such as Half-Life2, BF2, Halo, MOH, COD4, and most importantly....Oblivion. I played all expansions of Oblivion to the fullest. Many other PC games I have played I cannot recollect at this moment. I was very intrigued about the upcoming Witcher for at least a year. I also waited until the price was normal before I tried it. The result was disapointing. I spent two hours trying to figure out the combat. Did you know the main character can never take his sword out except in combat? Did you know that when he is in combat he ALWAYS has his sword positioned over his head? You cannot click, hit and dodge...oh no..you have to wait for the EXACT time to left OR right click. yup. no messin around. You can only attack the guy with the little red ring around him. the enemy behind you can keep busting you until he has the little red ring. You also have to push a button to change your tactics depending on if your attacker has armor or not. My arm was sore after two hours of right and left clicking as fast as I could.

Compare to Oblivion? You know it...and this is a dismal failure. I predict the price TANKS by mid-summer or earlier.

wait until its 10 bucks in a few months before you buy it.

Wish the patch worked!

I would have given this game a 5 if the patch worked. It is very slow to load and crashes constantly. Otherwise, it is a gorgeous game--a wonderful game. I just love it but it drives me nuts with the constant crashing. An effective patch would be a big help but the current one, 1.2, is no help at all. Yes, I unzipped it and ran it.

slow but worth the wait

I'm really enjoying this game when I'm not waiting for it to load and/or save. The story is interesting with many side quests. You do have to play as a male and I'm a female; I can live with that though I would have liked the choice.

This is not a suitable game for children as it is a little (and to some a lot) naughty - lots of foul language and sexual situations. I understand that there is a lock you can download from the web site that gets rid of most of that - but then it sure wouldn't be as much fun. It's way naughtier than Bard's Tale.

The main problem with the game is that it takes a long time to load and save whenever you go from one area to another - even just out of a house. This can be good because you can get some housework done while waiting - or mow the grass - or play a round of golf. I have a pretty fast machine but it is a pretty long wait sometimes. The game uses a lot of resources so a restart is needed every couple hours and then that takes a long time too.

If you don't mind the wait, and you don't mind the adult themes, this is really a fun game and probably has some replay value as some of the dialogs change the story. I would recommend this game but only if you have lots of memory and a fast processor.
