AWESOME ADDICTING GAME

Me (14) and my sister (10) bought the Logical Journey of the Zombinis maybe 4 years ago and it was sooo much fun. Im sick of all these bad reviews beause they are all lies. when my sister was five and we had this game she was not completely confused like some other people are from other reviews. and people say that it is the same logic over and over, NOT TRUE, it is soo different and each level of difficulty makes the puzzle much different. This game takes you though an arcane island filled with different adventures to save the zoombinis, from pizza making to mud throwing, its all fun. My sister and i used to play it 24/7. We had no clue it was even educational and my parents were so happy when they saw us getting further and further into the game. I have to say, we cut down on the playing a little bit because it got kind of boring if you play it every day. Even i am still challenged by this amazing game.I just got a new labtop, i tried zombinis on it and it didnt work :( but it worked on my sisters so we still got to play. I heard just weeks ago that not one but two sequels to the zombinis are out!! i cant wait to buy them. This game really works on any type of computer except mine ( a compaq windows xp presario 2100). THIS GAME REALLY IS AMAZING!!!!

Zerbles' delight

If you liked Zoombinis' Logical Journey and Mountain Rescue--or even if you never heard of either one--this game will proove a fantastic bit of fun and learning for your children. Verbal skills and reading ability are not required, as the narrator explains all the challenges in the game as one goes along.

The characters differ somewhat from the first two Zoombinis CDs. The Zoombinis are still the mainstays of course, but here they have to figure out how to catapult themselves onto Zoombini Isle, feed Zerbles and help the moths hatch. The puzzles are challenging but fun, and children learn logic and math in the process of doing them.

Another winner that is impossible to memorize, and changes every time one plays. Great for all ages.

I Love Zoombinis!!!

I LOVE THIS GAME! it's challenging and it really makes little brains think outside the box. Its more than 2+2=4 learning its reasoning and problem solving which is really good for young ones. They can begin to work on solving problems with their brains not their tears. Depending on the level you set the game on it challenges all ages....and I do mean all ages. I still play and I'm 24! I play with my mom & my little brother (who is 7) he loves it!

My daughter loved it!

My daughter (7yrs. at the time) loved this game. It is hard to find software that is really fun and educational at the same time. Most of the software I buy for her, I have to load it and play at least once so that I can show her how to play. The Zoombinis Island Odyssey was the exception. She had no problem playing it alone. It has a help screen with each activity that explains in detail. It is very easy to navigate and has multiple levels of play. We loved it so much that we now have The Zoombinis Logical Journey and Mountain Rescue.

The most well-developed logical-mathematical game ever!!!

In my house, my brother started playing it when he was 2 years old -maybe a bit younger. Today his greatest skill is Math and thanks to this game, he has a good brain for logic and maths. My mum, who is a 37-year-old educator, absolutely loves this game. I can speak for myself: it takes a loooong time before you actually end the game and cannot play it more, and you never get bored from it.
You start by choosing your own 16 players, and you go on a journey that contains games that are absolutely the most creative I've played. I absolutely recommend you, and I put my hand on the fire, you WILL LOVE this game. God bless you, and enjoy the Logical Journey!!

lives up to the potential of the interactive medium

THis is one of the first cd-roms that has stumped my rather precocious daughter: she gets frustrated with it and does not spend hours clicking away at it. Paradoxically, I see this as a very good thing. In most of her other learning software packages, there is no penalty for guessing, and so she became adept at discovering the pattern needed to move on - they are really nothing but glorified multiple choice exams - simple by clicking on everything. Sure, she can learn a lot from them, but I always saw it as allowing her to cheat as well.

In this program, if she gets something wrong, she loses one of her little guys, which eventually disallows her to move forward. So it doesn't pay to guess - she has to think about what is right in a systematic manner to move ahead. She also cannot backtrack and do something over. Instead, she has to go back to the start of the game, with a new set of problems.

I am also impressed with the logic portion of this software. The player has to recognise which features from sets and subsets in various contexts. That means systematic and abstract thinking, but made fun as a game journey of creatures the player creates at the beginning. Though my daughter is stumped by some of it now, she will really have beaten a challenging puzzle when she gets it, perhaps with lasting impact on her reasoning abilities. Visually, while this is not as snazzy as some other cd-roms, it is pleasing enough.

All in all, one of the best learning cd-roms I have yet seen. It really challenges my child, which is exactly what I was looking for.

Highly recommended.

One of the best logic games, all in a fun package

I'm a 13-year-old boy, I loved Zoombinis ever since it came out about 7 years ago, and I still love it now. Zoombinis is a great education game, it teaches logic and mathematical skills essential to learn, and also lets children (and adults) have fun while doing it.

Zoombinis is set apart from so many other logic games by adding characters that are enjoyable and funny to a 2nd grader, while not being so annoying or childish that a 7th grader cannot enjoy or laugh at them as well.

Another way Zoombinis excels is in the way it adjusts to the user's ability. The game will start out easy and teach more simplistic concepts, and after the user is comfortable with that, it will move on to more complex problems.

A nice thing about this game is that it will encourage someone to learn and keep going. It can all happen because the game is both educational and fun, and the child will get a sort of self-satisfaction when they accomplish something. Whenever a puzzle is completed, the user gets a little bit closer to the goal of saving all the Zoombinis, and this gives them something to work for.

Zoombinis consists of 12 different puzzles for the user to go thru, and one of the factors that have made it so successful is how it makes the user actually think. Instead of letting you just guess the answers, Zoombinis has you think about why a certain answer does or doesn't work, then lets you come up with some sort of practical method to solve such problems, which can later be applied to more advanced levels of education (I am currently taking geometry, and I still use many of the methods I learned here to help me solve problems).

In all, Zoombinis is one of the most valuable and fun game (educational or not) that I have ever used. It is a great product, and I would certainly recommend it.

Does it work on Macs?

Although Zoombinis Mountain Rescue works fine on MacOS X (Panther), neither of the other two Zoombini adventures (Island Odyssey and Maths Journey) work on either my iMac or my eMac - they either crash after the opening video or don't run at all. Island Odyssey claims to be X compatible. Maths Journey ought to run under Classic. The Reader Rabbit CDs work fine under Classic.

Tech support don't bother to reply or say they don't support it any more.

Love the Game, But You May Encounter Problems

I first played this game when I was in elementary school. I loved it then and, after playing it again after so many years now, I still love it. I would highly recommend it for parents with young kids and for those nostalgic adults like myself out there. The puzzles are excellent and grow more complex and difficult as the game progresses to keep the player challenged. Furthermore, the graphics (while no longer very modern by 2008 standards) are easy on the eyes and the voices are clear and even rather entertaining at times (although, in the version I have now, the sound tends to skip every so often). However, the explanations and clues provided by the game for the puzzles are not always particularly helpful, especially since the company apparently no longer makes this game with an actual manual included. If you encounter problems in that regard, I would recommend Googling for an online walkthrough or FAQ about Zoombinis.

Unfortunately, with the version I bought from Amazon.com here, I could not initially get it to play after installation. Despite what they might advertise, you may still run a chance of encountering technical errors that could render the game essentially useless. Fortunately, there are possible ways to fix this awful dilemma, at least for Windows XP users (as this is the system I use; I'm sorry, but I don't know what can be done for Mac users who are encountering trouble). You can run the Program Compatibility Wizard, which a quick Google search will bring up information about and how to start. Or, you can go to the game link on your Start -> Programs menu, right-click on it, click on Properties, go to Compatibility, and select the correct setting under Compatibility mode. I set it to Windows 95 for this game, and it appears to work just fine now. But, be warned - these methods sadly may not solve every case.

Zoombinis: Logical Journey is an excellent game, if you can get it running. There are some errors that you may encounter, and the game isn't as spiffy sight- or sound-wise as the newer games you'll see on the store shelves these days. But what Zoombinis lacks in modern features, it makes up for in charming puzzles, an interesting storyline, and rather addictive game play. I would advise some caution in buying this game if you have never played or seen it before or are not at least a little technically savvy or know someone who is, as you could potentially be let down. Otherwise, I love this game and highly recommend it for those interested. I hope this review helps parents, teachers, and other shoppers alike in their purchasing decision.

This game really makes kids think. It builds logical reasoning skills and they absolutely love it. My 5 and 8 year olds have a blast playing. The game adjusts for skill level. I'm sure it would still be fun for older kids as well. Kids have to rescue the Zoombinis by helping them relocate to a new land. On their journey kids are met with obstacles, each with perameters, for kids to navigate. For example, figuring out which toppings the pizza troll wants on his pizza from a number of choices. Listening to his response gives the clues to help them figure it out and it changes each time.
My only 2 gripes are that you have to change your color setting on your computer and that there is very little explanation initially. But the kids usually figure it all out anyway. I definatly recommend this game.
