Waste of money

Half-Life and all of its mods are great, but not worth 33 dollars. Especially since you can get all those except Half-Life and Blue Shift for free via Steam. All you need to do is buy a half-life cd key and download Steam. Steam then gives you the options of downloading, for free, Counter-Strike, Opposing Force, Team Fortress Classic, plus Day of Defeat, Ricochet, and Death Match Classic. Besides these, there are a lot of third party mods that you can download and put on to steam. Natural Selection has a lot of players and it is third party right now.
Also, it doesnt look like it is any different than the first platinum pack, which was 29 dollars when I bought it a year and a half ago.
I gave it five stars because it is a fun game, just don't buy this pack. Buy Half-Life by its self. Save yourself some money.

My GOD!!! this game is all you need to play, the gameplay is fantastic, the graphics awesome, the sound terrific, and the best: the continued relasing of hundreds of mods over the internet.

The only complain is that doesn't include Condition Zero (2 disc) that's why I give it 4 stras to the overall, maybe Valve should make a DVD edition of this pack, yeah! the PLAT. COLL. 3rd EDITION

But this game is best of the bests!!!

Very Good, 5 Games for the price of 1!!!

I don't know what the person is talking about who said Counterstrike is free...

counter-strike was free...like 2-3 years ago...but it was bought out by seirra...

I bought this, and i would most definitly recomend this. These games are all fun, addiciting, and just down right good.I love this pack, and i reccomend this to everyone who likes a good first person shooter.I also recommend buying this before buying Half-Life 2 (if you never played half life or Counter Strike before)

very good great christmas present

half life is without a doubt the best fps i have played. i currently own half life, half life 2 and half life 2: episode one. while the sequels are fantastic, playing the first of the series will not only give you all the background for half life 2 but also give you a great gaming experience.

in half life you are gordon freeman, a theoretical physicist working in the black mesa complex. you start out walking around, making your way to the anomolous materials lab to conduct an experiment your team has been working on for a while. there is a lot of forshadowing, not only because you know you are supposed to kill aliens, but from all the scientist mentioning a "resonance cascade", meaning a disruption in the experiment. and of course a cascade is created, tearing a hole in space creating a portal to a world called "xen". the main objective, however, is to get out of the complex, which is easier said than done. black mesa is ENORMOUS, and has many side areas to explore with traps and bad guys galore. during the first part of the game you spend a lot of your time killing things with a crowbar and a pistol, discovering the depth of the damage caused by the cascade. you then hear of a rescue operation involving the military where the main objective is to get to the surface to be saved. soon you find out that the "rescue op" turns out to be a clean up where all evidence is dto be destroyed, including witnesses. with all hell against you, you need to find out what happened, how to fix it and stay alive through it all.

the story of the game is very captivating, with no cutscenes and no long drawn out monologues it is a perfect way to keep the action going while keeping the player informed. the graphics, while seemingly dated now, are still good and can be better when used with the blue shift upgrade. the weapons are well balanced, having a great selection of close, mid and long ranged guns and a couple wild cards that can get you out of tight spots, including a experimental weapon that can take down helicopters with a charged shot.

another great thing about this game is that there is no one strategy that will take you through the game. some places require a run and gun tactic where there are too many to kill and you need to just take out as many as you can as you sprint towards a door so you can lock them out. at other times there are slower parts where ducking and hiding behind barriers is the best way to get through an area. throw some puzzle areas and insane detours, this make for an incredible and satisfying experience. and this game will not be 4 or 5 hours. i have beaten the game many times and even with knowing all the tricks and shortcuts it takes me a good 12 to 15 hours if i'm rushing through.

the other games in this package are just as entertaining. opposing force puts you in the role of one of the soldiers that are to "clean up" the situation. giving you weapons not found in the original half life, including alien weapons raning from an animal that spits out grenades to an alien with a tongue that acts like the hookshot in zelda, opposing force itself is a rather long and satisfying game. blue shift is the black mesa disaster through the eyes of a black mesa security guard. while significantly shorter than the other two the game is once again just as satisfying. the half life games are a must to anyone who is a fan of shooters. if you have played half life 2 without playing this game then i would still suggest it to you, while the graphics aren't as good the story and action is still as intense and you will be in for a longer game. and like a good movie, you will want to play this game again and again, just to get all the details of the story that you might have missed before.

One of the best games ever made, now for a bargain

Half Life is truly one of the best games ever made, in my opinion, second only to Half Life 2. I won't reiterate the details which have been so well advertised; I'll just confirm them.

But that's not all; they're throwing in the best mods made for it. I strongly recommend playing Opposing Force and Blue Shift to see more than one side of the Black Mesa incident.

$20? Definitely a deal.

Note that the CD keys in this package can also be used with a Steam account.

Great game and story

I recieved Half Life 2 for christmas and I decided to get the full story. I have played Half Life before but a friend lent me the CD so when I got a new computer I lost the game. I eventually decided to have the full Half Life story. Coming back to Half Life after playing Half Life 2 is like watching HDTV and then watching cartoons. Needless to say, the game is so immersive that you forget about the quality. The Blue Shift CD comes with the HD pack so it makes things a bit sharper. I would have bought Half Life: Source but I wanted all the expansion packs and thy both cost about the same. If you live for shooting odd looking aliens, this is the game for you.

Oldschool Fun

This is the game that brought multiplayer FPS (first person shooter) into more homes than just about any other. Doom may have paved the way, but the first series of halflife games repaved the road in platinum. I am not a huge FPS player myself, but I have sampled a fair share of the genre and this one has always stood out. Even with its successor out, and it being a very strong game, if you are fed up with STEAM, take it back to the old school.

Mediocre Game

I can not figure out why people think this game is so great. I played the original halflife years ago and I thought it was ok, just ok. It has cheezy monsters, the graphics are outdated, game play is mediocre in my opinion. The controls do not work as smoothly as most games. I started playing opposing forces and I just can not get into it. A lot of the puzzles are illogical. With all the other games out today, I feel I wasted my money on this, even though there are five games included. So if you want an outdated mediocre game get this. I have played return to castle wolfenstein about 50 times, I am playing right now as matter of a fact and I still like playing it better than anything in halflife platinum. Maybe the halflife online games are good, I don't know I don't play games online. There you have it.

These games are well worth your time.

The games in this bundle are old, the graphics are pretty bad, however, the gameplay is awesome, a complete blast from the past! Expect at LEAST 40+ hours of single player gaming, and much more on the multiplayer (Best over LAN). Well worth your time and money.

Easy to understand, fun to play.

If you love Tomb Raider Anniversary then you will love this. The game is very easy to catch onto. The first-person Shooter style is well done and I found the storyline compelling.

The colleters edition is hours and hours of entertainment and well worth the money.
