Utterly embarssing

Whoever designed this one knew nothing about WW2 or infantry tactics. The first mission has you land on the African coast to prepare the way for Torch. Guess who your opponents are. Vicy French hold outs? No the Afrika Korps who by the way are fighting a rear guard action against Monty about 600 miles away from the supposed area of operations. There was not a German soldier anywhere near the American landings, and the troops rushed to Tunisia after the landings to guard Rommel's rear were the the 10th Panzer. But why worry about history, this isn't a sim it's a kid's toy--shoot the Nazis (there always have to be Nazi's).

The AI allied soldiers act like a mob rather than a squad or platoon, and since their actions cannot be controlled, they rush into situations where slaughter is inevitable. You can't open a door until its "time" because this is really not a "game" just a story, and it's not as good as old "Combat" reruns.

Old TV shows seem to drive this "tale." The most laughable is a jeep driving down a runway machine gunning German planes, some of which were never used in the Med., like an old episode of "Rat Patrol."

Don't get sucked in. There is only one criteria that applies to shooters. The Tactical situation and the AI have to allow for many solutions to the problem, NOT JUST ONE. This is just linear progress from level to level about as interesting as solitaire with a lot of noise. It's what I imagine fantasy shooters are like only with "Nazis" instead of Bug Eyed Monsters.

JUNK!!!

This game might be good if the player could ever get it to operate. It was so terrible and the EA people over in Redwood City - not far from my house - have an attitude best described as "Mox Nicks" - - - so I returned it to you guys via parcel post with your label - which you kindly provide with your software over the net - on or about 3 July 2003. To date I've heard nothing from you. Would you be so kind as to indicate to me what disposition you've made of this turkey???

Don't get me wrong - the game is a lot of fun - if you don't think about it too much. Unfortunately, I am a realist and this game drives me crazy. The multiplayer is great, except the maps get kinda boring. The singleplayer - what were these people thinking? I played this game for the first time on Hard and still the AI was pathetic - I would stand right in front of a soldier and he would shoot somewhere to the right of me. They go prone when you are one meter away from them!!! Yes, the AI is bad - really hampers the realism of this game - graphics? Very, very dated - as we see in Call of Duty - a much better game. I kept wanting to shoot Major Grillo and just do the bloody mission myself (without his help) - everything is way to scripted... nothing feels natural. When you land on Omaha there is no point even firing a shot from your weapon - same with Spearhead's bombardment of the trenches, no point firing your weapon again... if the developers weren't so busy trying to make these games look and feel like you're starring in some Tom Hanks movie, maybe then it would be all more enjoyable. I highly recommend Operation Flashpoint: Game of the Year Edition if you're wanting to play a realistic war game - might be dated, but atleast you feel some sense of realism.

Great oldie but shows its age

Don't get me wrong, this is the great game that started the whole real war FPS thing going around now (there's actually some for Vietnam, I know war is war but that just seems wierd to me).
The only real reason to get this game though is if your computer is more than 3 years old and can't handle more excellent fare like Call of Duty. But the game has some great levels, the best being D-Day. The game does a good job showing the desperation of getting to the other side of that beach. But after playing a few different games, the graphics are pretty lame. And I found the you-vs.-Germany thing a little stupid. But for anyone who wants to enter the world of PC gaming with a less than current PC, you could do a lot worse.

One BIG problem: the walthrough

Overall, it is an OK game. The only major problem is the walkthrough: there's no map which causes me to wonder where I should go. This is a big mistake since the game is based on secret missions. The objectives are not clear: you die before knowing (or not even) what to do. You'll have to rely on walkthrough of people who've played before. Since were not people from the 1940s, we need some guidelines about what are what.

Good.

This FPS is one of the greatest of all. The enemy AI is very well done (those who say that the AI doesn't react when they stand in front of the enemy, either they have a problem with their game or something else because its impossible the AI doesn't react). The storyline is also interesting. The game is very very hard even in easy mode. The soundtrack reminds me of Indiana Jones. Worth the purchase.

Great game in a great package.

This is the first person shooter experience that I have been looking for since I finished playing No One Lives Forever. Medal of honor has great graphics, great storyline and it is'nt loaded with game killing bugs.

The Omaha Beach segment is particularly interesting, since it manages to simulate the Normandy invasion quite accurately (After getting killed four times, I began to appreciate how hard surviving that battle must have been.)

Well worth the cash.

Great game but could include more missions.

I really loved this game, the gameplay was incredible and the music was haunting...it really drags you in. One problem/gripe...it only took me a week to finish and that was with me playing only a few hours every day. I'm not the best gamer in the world but I flew through this one. Wish they had more missions, I didn't want it to end so soon!

Excelent!

This game is the best first person shooter game I have ever played! Omaha is better than Frontline. The music can be scary if your in night commando mission. The gameplay is very good, and the only problem I can think of is that in some missions you can't pick up some wepons. This is not illogical however. Multiplayer should be great; I have not tried it yet. Anyway, it;s a GREAT game!

It is still very good

Although this is now a dated game, the twenty dollar price is hard to resist.
Think about it... twenty dollars for two great WWII games.
The graphics are not the best but that does not seem to be a hinderance on an enjoyable experience.
There are some things that I find annoying about this game though. First, it is not realistic. In almost every mission you are alone defeating a whole army of nazis. That annoys me alot. That never happened, it never will in the next 100 wars. People are dumb enough to let a single man infiltrate the whole country and get away with it while killing a whole brigade. It just doesnt happen.
Second, Lag. Online is fun but unless you have a good computer or alot of disk space your ping will be well over 75. Thus causing the server to slow down and the framerate takes a nosedive.
Other than that this is definately worth the twenty dollars.
