Half Life 2 is the greatest game you will ever play. Plain and Simple. The graphics are incredible even though the game is two years old. To get the best out of it though you will need a good graphics card. Though adverage computers will run it with ood framerate, though you will have to turn down down some settings. The weapons are good also. The gravity gun is the coolest weapon from any first prson shooter. Alot of people complain about Steam, which is Valves online service. The people complaining, probably have dial up. Well thats why its slow for them.
pros: graphics
gravity gun
plot
um...best game ever
cons: nothing

i think i's pretty much agreed that HL is the best Freakin game ever made, and i've played just about all games in history.
PROS-
The story is mind boggling and even makes you think a little

The graphics are amazing, and the game runs fine on even a crappy system

The AI is pretty cool, and sometimes stuff will sneak up on u and jump out the enemies even work together to make a squad

Gameplay is great, I've played this over and over again!
Cons-steam/valve, makes u update like once every couple of months or the game won't work, and the update takes like an hour, even on a good connection.
I would recomend this game to everyone, i showd my friends and they all bought it

almost the best ever

Visually, HL2 is the best looking game Ive played. I was even more pleased with the gameplay. The weapons were pretty cool also. getting to fight "humanlike" enemy along with the regular freaks was a nice change.

the countless loading screens was quite frustrating and clearly this "old method" takes away from the gameplay. enough that i had to give it 3 stars overall, but if your looking for one of the best fps on the markert. dont pass this one up.

Half-Life 2? And I thought Halo was fun...

1998. Valve makes history with a landmark game. Half-life was the kicker for the ignition of FPSs for the PC and changed the face of the Genre for years. I tried it. I hated Half-life. You say "Wait, isn't this supposed to be about Half-Life 2?" yes, it is. And It IS about Half-Life's sequel. You see, I hated Half-life, yet I loved HL2, and beat the game in mere hours (but many sittings...) and came back for another play-through. The graphics are superb, though not on par with Doom 3, they are much better engineered and still look awesome. Havok physics make things look like they're falling, not flying down, and people who fall against walls don't fall though them. Even the dreaded Headcrabs are enjoyable to fight (Easier to kill, don't always do damage before dying) but the new kind of 'crab requires a sizable gap if you do not wish to have some form of ailen spit-poison coursing through your veins. Despite the "we dont go to ravenholm" level, HL2 has almost no flaws. One particularly annoying flaw is the obnoxiously long load time. My poor 3000+ took around three minutes to load the next 1/20th of the level when Models and Textures were set to high. (This sounds small, but if you ever play the game, you'll find that the infernal time it takes is far too unpaced with the rest of the game). This being said, you will spend a 1/10 ratio waiting to playing. The loads are well placed, however, with about 3 per level and no enemies nearby. Another is the fact that on the harder difficulties, the game finds those who started on Easy to have an INCREDIBLY hard time next time. The MMGs and Striders and such are really hard, the CPs (Civil protection, the main token masked evil enemy) are harder to kill, ammo is more sparse and your health capacity is lower. Even these parts where you have a hard time are easy, and I only got REALLY stuck once, in Nova Prospekt, where I had to seek help online to see what I should do,(hint, grenades are your worst nightmare) and I only won because someone IMd me, thus minimized the game as things got hairy, somehow stopping my death and causing Alyx to sweep in and kill everyone. I still enjoyed the parts of the game with the now-easier puzzles, but still scratched my head at some of them, ranging from as simple as not knowing where to drive, to arranging planks to walk across a beach without touching the ground. Some were incredibly easy. (climb ladder, push button, desend ladder) All the same, the whole game was fun, with plenty of shooting between all the aformentioned features to keep the dullest of FPS fans solving the puzzles just to keep playing.

Great Game BUT...

Ok. So first of all let me tell you what PC I have. I have Pentium 4 3.2 G CPU, 1 Gig of Ram, 128 ATI Pro VPU.

Game is pretty cool. You get to ride stuff, including some construction machinery. Everything is great looking, intelligent and plot makes sense (at least to the very last part.)

But............It takes soooooo long to load the game and its consecutive parts, its not even funny. And when I press Save or Load, everything is freezes with repetitive sound for like 40 seconds. And large explosions require a millisecond of additional processing. What is that all about? It takes away fun from the game Big Time.

But the game is a very nice sequel, and was worth the wait. But because of all the frustration, I cannot give it more than four stars.

A steaming pile of ..........? Well, not quite

HALF LIFE 2 is an awesome sequel. The game is gorgeous if you have the right hardware.

STEAM is what brings the game down. I agree with another reviewer who stated he had a good 2 hours installing and updating and decrypting game files before he was able to play. If you are on dial up, go ahead and end it all now...because you wull be ending it all after you try to downlaod all of these files over a modem - and try is the key word. In my experience, the install and required STEAM update will not work over a modem.

Go ahead and unplug everything and take your box to your office or somwhere else where you can get on the FATPIPE before you try installing STEAM.

The single player and deathmatch are superb although the SP does have some annoying repetition.

If you've played the original HL multiplayer maps, you will love going back to places in HalfLife 2 like Gasworks, Bounce, and hopefully The Subway...

I am running this game on several computers, one setup is a PIV 2.6 Northwood with a Radeon 9800 Pro and 512MB Rambus Ram This runs OK @ 1024 X 768. I also have a Dell 8400 With a PIV 3.0 and 512 DDR RAM with a Radeon X300 PCI-E this runs OK as well a little better than the previously mentioned setup.
The 3rd setup is a Inspiron XPS (3.4 PIV - 512MB PC 3200) with the newly installed Mobility 9800. This runs pretty smooth.

The best bet is a PIV 3.0 Ddesktop with at least 1GB of RAM and a sweet new GEFORCE 6600.(I'm swapping out my Radeon 9800 PRO for the 6600 for Christmas and I can't wait!)

I predict HL2 will become the new Desert Combat as far as mods and developer support are concerned. If you aren't on board, get there!

Needs more

The game is awesome but the one thing it needs as collector's ed. is some behind the scenes stuff. Other wise it is perfect.

Excellent game with a few flaws

The gameplay, graphics ad story are superb. What I found disturbing are the trshy weapons. They all "feel" like toys and shoot that way. Why didn't they take weapons like in CS:S?

Still the Best PC Game Ever

I just started recently playing HL2 again because I put together a new rig, and I have to tell you it is far from showing its age. What a phenomenal game and engine this is. This game has one of the best storylines and endings ever. The fishbowl game Bioshock has nothing on this.

The graphics are still amazing by today's standard. And when you install the FakeFactory Cinematic Mod v4, the only game that will surpass this visually is Crysis. The facial and mouth animations are still unmatched. The engine could use an update with new and more advanced shadowing, but that's it.

Also, I think steam is great. A couple of my HL2 CDs have become unreadable, but thankfully the cd-key is registered to my account so I am able to download this as many times as I want. Very convenient.
