Most of the puzzle solutions were out of the blue. There were no hints what so ever at what needed to be done.

OUTSTANDING GAMES, THE BEST ADVENTURE GAMES EVER MADE

BUY THESE GAMES! Give them to your mother, your grandmother, say there joke gifts but whatever you do, get people to play these games, they are some of the best programs that are out. They aren't those sh!tty full violence games where you point a gun at someones head and spill their guts over the floor. This has no heavy hard-core violence. Its really funny for kids, and really puzzling for adults because it comes with an easy and hard mode. Get these games, you'll never regret it. The only thing is that you might have some compatibility issues with newer operating systems with the first two games, but I have windows ME and I was able to get it to work. I'm telling you again, buy these games.

Sound Problems

Newer computers have a hard time running these old DOS games, but there's a simple way to fix it.

For Monkey Island 1, you need to have your cd-rom hooked up to your soundcard. If you can play music cd's from your computer, then you should be able to get sound from monkey island 1.

Monkey Island 2 was not reprogrammed to use the cd soundtracks and you may not hear any sound. You need to copy the contents of the monkey island 2 folder from the cd to your hard drive. Right click on the ms-dos shortcut entitled monkey2 and go to properties. Uncheck the box read-only. Then go to the "program" tab and in the "cmd line" textbox it should say Monkey2.exe. There are three flags you can enter after monkey2.exe: a, r, or i (example: monkey2.exe i). These flags tell the program what soundcard to use. Use "a" if you have an adlib or soundblaster compatible card. "r" if you have a roland sound card. Or "i" for your computer's internal speaker, which sound like beeps when your computer boots up. On my pentium 4 with a soundblaster live! I couldn't get the sound to work with the "a" flag but the "r" flag and "i" flag worked. But on my pentium 3 with a generic soundcard the "a" and "i" flag worked but the "r" flag didn't. Play around and see which one works for you. The music doesn't sound very smooth because your soundcard is only emulating the old soundcards, but at least you can hear that cool monkey island music whilst playing the game.

Also, you can listen to the cd on your cd player. But skip track one, it's the game data.

Fun but complicated

Guybrush is a funny character. It might be just my lean, but many things are so arbitrary in this game. It takes way too long to play. Who has the time to check out every little thing to have only one clue discovered every hour? The way to solve things are SO arbitrary, tedious and annoying. It was not created for people who want to play a short fun game. It requires hours and hours and hours of play. In this day and age who has the time? Solving things in this game are bearly logical, so you have to test every item out on every other item hoping you have the right combination of things to get any results. It's just too time consuming. For those that have the time and the patience it's a very fun and funny puzzle solving game.

Is it possible that someone does not know Monkey Island?

It is strongly improbable that some adventure games fan would not like Monkey Island series. Even the very first game of this package - Secret of Monkey Island - still exceeds lots of contemporary games although it has been created in 80's of the last century.

What makes Monkey Island so perfect and unforgetable? It definitely is a great balance of storyline, graphics, music, humor and playability. You will play these games again and again, just to recall an uncountable number of comic scenes, memorable quotes and original ideas, just to see the main hero Guybrush Threepwood, ghost/zobmie pirate LeChuck, beautiful governor Elaine Marley and other characters in action. It is simply a masterpiece of LucasArts and I am not afraid to say that Sercet of Monkey Island established a new standard in adventure games world.

Moreover, you will get three excellent games at one excellent price. I strongly recommend Monkey Island series!

mmmm. . .monkey island

I can't think of any reason (besides already owning these games) that anyone would not want to buy it. This collection of the classic monkey island games from lucas arts contains the first two (Secret of Monkey Island, Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge) as well as the cartoony 3rd (The Curse of Monkey Island). Some people may look at the visuals and sound and sneeze, but believe me, this is nothing to sneeze about. These games are hands-down the most entertaining, the most challenging, and the most fun games you will ever play. Buy this package! And, at [a great price] , you're getting a good deal. Mucho fun, mucho entertainment.

What more could you want???!!

I used to play the monkey island 2 (LeChuck's Revenge) back in early 90s and I really enjoyed it - then, I found out that there was 3rd MI game! I bought it right away and I couldn't have been happier. It was funny, the graphic was fun to look at and the puzzles were well written except for a few of them - then the 4th MI came out in 3D last year and I loved it, too. It was same monkey island with 3D graphic - they also changed the control method from mouse to keyboard which is a little annoying at first but not bad indeed.

Anyway, I really wanted to go back to the beginning of it all and experience the whole thing. Until I found out about this archive series, I was faced with too over priced games in floppy. I was so very happy to find out that Lucasarts had published the MI archive. for this price, it's well worth it even if you already have the curse of MI. You can see how Guybrush has changed from the beggining to the end. The graphic isn't that much to look, at but considering how old they are, it's very good. Non-linear puzzles make it less frustrating when you are stuck at one spot and even when you are having a little problem, Guybrush always manages to give you a little hint. Highly recommended!

Heaven - and in a computer game!

Monkey Island... a series thought by many to be one of the greatest in adventure gaming history.

They're right, you know.

The Monkey Island series follow the adventures of young Guybrush Threepwood, an aspiring pirate in the Tri-Island Area governed by Elaine Marley. During the course of his adventures, Guybrush meets Elaine and they fall in love... and he also meets the ominous Ghost/Zombie/Demon (he's different in all three games) Pirate LeChuck. LeChuck has the hots for Elaine, and a few of the games center on his quests to make her his. Guybrush and LeChuck are arch-rivals in each game.

While many I know have complained about the dated graphics of some of these games, most are willing to look past that to see a brilliant, witty, and fall-out-of-your-seat-laughing game. If you are not a believer, you will be soon - I know that I am.

A must-have collection

The Monkey Island games are outstanding games for anyone to play. They are laugh-out-loud funny, and present the player with some challenging puzzles. The games rely on imagination rather than shoot-em-up gore and lightening reflexes; this makes them appeal to a broad audience. I gave them as a gift to my mom; she played them straight through and is begging for more games like these.

The games in the archive are the first three on the Monkey Island series, and as such show the evolution of the technology. The first two have much earlier graphics and no sound (except for background music). The third has much slicker graphics and audible dialog. These lead up to the fourth (not included in the set), which has 3D graphics.

But don't let the older technology put you off. These are still the best video games ever written, and you'll be missing a great time if you pass them up.

These are the most entertaining games I have ever seen!

These games take you into the world of Guybrush Threepwood, a young man who struggles in his quest to be a pirate, and meets friends and enemies along the way. I bought the games in seperate packs, before I knew about this. An incredible change, putting some of the best adventure games the world will ever see, together, in a pack. Guybrush is sure to make everyone laugh, on his never ending fight against the evil, disgusting, Ghost-Zombie Pirate LeChuck.

When you play these great games by the great company, LucasArts, you will have the time of your life. I had a little trouble in these games, but when you're stuck, someone standing around will help you along the way. One thing's for sure, these are adventure games that you'll never forget, and hopefully, they'll inspire you to buy other games from the company, LucasArts Entertainment. This is a must-have for all adventure gamers.
