I have three reasonably new computers in my home - all AMD 1400's and a PIII 1,000. Lots of memory and high end video cards (ATI and Matrox). The game won't run on any machine. Same error message, and NO support from ID Software.

This was a big waste of money and a disappointment. Don't buy it unless you feel really lucky, and have some money to waste.

Not what you would have expected. Most would disagree and say that this game was one of the best for PC in 2001. I would say that I might have fallen victim to hype-ofobia which supressed my enjoyment while playing the game.
Anyway the game has great detail in characters and there surroundings definitely earning it full points graphic wise. The character animations had some real good thought put into it which made some fight sequences rather outstanding. All in all presentation was the full three stars that I gave it.
The gameplay sucked big time, and the involvement of gameplay in the story was non-exsistent. Lack of creativity in these areas made the game fall short of what I was expecting by miles. In todays gaming industry games that are successful are the ones that get the player involved in the actual story line as much as possible during actual game play. Games like: Max Payne(PC,Xbox), GTA3(PS2), Deus Ex(PC) all major successes. Because they created an outstanding balance in gameplay and storyline.

But if you like to go around mindlessly shooting German Nazi's and zombies and have to solve the occaisional puzzle, with the no relevance to the story at all be my guest and buy this game.

P.S. the visuals are really excelent on P4's with 256mb and Nvidia Geforce 2 Ultra and above.

The enemy AI is a welcome challenge. Multiple enemies, with good aim, and if you don't hit them right away, they run and wait for you to find them, with gun ready of course. I am an avid FPS player and just the challenge of the game is enough to keep hardcore gamers happy.

A review of the Collector's Tin not the game.

There are enough game reviews here. But, almost nothing about the actual game tin. Don't get me wrong, the game is definitely 5 stars or more but the "Limited Edition Collector's Tin" is only 2 stars.

In my opinion, the "Limited Edition Collector's Tin" really isn't worth the amount of money being charged for it. The price is considerably more for only a few items. Besides the game, which you can get by its self, you get a mini-poster and a patch. All of which comes in an embossed aluminum box. For the amount of money they want for this, I believe they should have at least made the poster full size. The poster is 7 inches high by 27 inches long. It really doesn't seem that big when you have it in your hands. The patch has bright, vibrant colors, red and white; but it isn't really spectacular. Just the Wolfenstein "W" logo you see on the front of the box. The box itself, despite being embossed and stylized with red lettering, seems cheaply made to me. The light metal used in its construction, while obviously chosen to make the box lighter and easier to handle, could be very easily bent or dented

In the end, the "Limited Edition Collector's Tin" is one of those "I have one and you don't" things. If you absolutely must have one, try waiting until the price comes down.

The Single Best Level of Any FPS - Ever

It is worth it to buy this game in order to play the "Bombed out City" level.
Climbing, dodging & shooting in building rubble, fires etc., with enemys all about is simply outstanding.

RtCW is destined to become a classic.

Best FPS yet..

This game is the next evolution of the Quake III engine and runs so seemless that most peoples' computers will not be able to fully appreciate this game. Coding is excellent, computer generated enemies have the highest level of AI ever seen in FPS.

The maps and missions are excellent and require both skill and luck. Levels change with the placement of enemies and power-ups resulting in a game that is both challenging and able to replayed several times.

Beautiful graphics including weather and sky texturing that is the best ever developed.

Yes, the game is dark and scary for some. But, the game is also set in WW II and in a dark and scary castle. If you want a sunny and happy game, might I recommend Pokemon or Super Mario Brothers.

Best yet...It will be hard to beat!

Soon to be the best FPS

Soon to be the best.... that is, it will be once all the other Quakers and UT buffs play RTCW. It is simply the most oustanding game to date. The gameplay is smooth, the graphics-spectatular. If you love any of the Quakes or UT you WILL want RTCW. And there are no lock-ups. And its not the typical "run around and kill everything" kind of game either. You have objectives to meet, and there is teamwork. Something not seen in any other FPS. This is a must have for Christmas!

Not bad, not great

Well, after all the hype, the game is here, and it's not bad. If you like FPS, buy it.

The game is dark, and I mean physically. The multiplayer maps seem all to be played at dusk or night, and it can become difficult to see what the heck is going on. It adds to the atmosphere, but my eyes hurt after a couple of hours.

If you run into a streak of bad luck, the game gets frustrating quickly. The maps are big, but as a medic or engineer you sometimes run for three minutes looking for action (with selfish lieutenants as teammates who are unwilling to share ammo) only to get killed at first sight....with another 40 second wait until you get back into the fray. Grmmlll...Rearming sites (armories, weapons caches) might be a nice touch in the next version.

I love the fact that friendly fire death gives me a chance to vote against someone, and see them kicked for doing it too often! FF makes it a more sophisticated game. It's funny when it happens to yourself; yesterday I threw a grenade over the heads of my teammates, but it hit a door post and flew back in on us killing 5 players. They must have all hit F1 (punishment vote) and I got instantly kicked. Ouch!

The single player is ok, but play it on the hardest setting, otherwise it's a simple walk-through. Nonetheless it's pretty much a shoot-everything approach to gaming. It's a nice break from having your butt handed to you by people more skilled than yourself in multiplayer, however. :-)

Great game, but the best stuff actually comes for free!!

I must admit, I was hooked right from the start. I first downloaded the Wolfenstein screensaver and was knocked out by 4 stunning Playboy babes (.. now where is the closest Lebensborn!?). I then downloaded the Wolfenstein movie trailer which absolutely blew me away with a stunning video and a fantastic musical score; which even included a great Adolph Hitler background monologue (.. which way to the Lebensraum Campaign!?). I then downloaded the Wolfenstein Multiplayer Demo and I could not believe how good this game was (.. now where can I join that Panzer Division so I can use my Panzerfaust and Venom gun!?).

With a triumvirate like that, I felt that neither Activision nor I could lose. So I went ahead and bought the game. But now I feel a bit let down.

RTC Wolfenstein actually consists of 2 separate games: though similar in design, the single player version has a different feel to the multiplayer version. The single player version although visually and artistically is beautifully done, is after a while just another shoot'em up type of game which offered nothing original (I believe Half-Life and System Shock 2 has done better in this area). The game also suffered from frequent lock ups and jerky motion and sound.

The multiplayer version when compared to Quake III Arena could not match the shear spectacle of Quake III weapons, colour visuals and explosions (though it's overall design including a flame thrower, mini-gun [Venom gun] and grenade-launcher [Panzerfaust] were impressive nonetheless). But what Wolfenstein Multiplayer lacks in colour spectacle, it certainly has made up for in mental logistics. After you get the hang of it, Wolfenstein Multiplayer is highly enjoyable when working with your team mates; in co-ordinating, supplying, out-witting and destroying your enemy. However the full version comes with only 8 Internet game play scenarios and after stomping 1000 times on the beach sands and German bunkers of the Internet 'Beach Landing' demo version, one tended to get a bit tired of more of the same in scenes which include a village, submarine facility, supply dump, castle...etc.

So if you have already downloaded the screensaver, movie trailer and multiplayer demo, then you have already experienced 80% of what RTC Wolfenstein has to offer (which costs nothing). If you want to see some nice artistic WWII genre designs or some other Internet multiplayer scenes (besides the demo 'Beach Landing' scene), go ahead and buy this game.

Full version of RTCW single player:--------> 3 out of 5 stars
Full version of RTCW multiple player:------> 4 out of 5 stars
RTCW screensaver:-----------------------> 5 out of 5 stars
RTCW movie trailer:-----------------------> 5 out of 5 stars
RTCW multiplayer demo:------------------> 5 out of 5 stars
