A Great game but, too easy

Awsome graficts and great game play, but it is too easy and all you can do is do stunts, you can't just take a ride like in Driver 2! If you want a great game where you can race around I recomend Spy Hunter! But it is a good game to have, Buy it!!!!

Stuntman is a sweet game it is diffenitely worth the price. The only thing I don't like is that u can't go out for a drive in a city like Midnight Club. But other words the game is well worth it if u are into high graphics and insane stunts in tricked out cars............ u Diffinitely need to put this on ur Wishlist. If u are more of the racing type I suggest u purchase Granturismo3.

This a flippin class game the cars look brilliant so do the citys and the stunt arena if you see it in the shops when it comes out buy it but only if you like games like this one. there is loads of cars to jump and dump. and none of looks rubish if you don't like you a dipstick.

Fun...but frustrating.

Overall, this is a good game. If I could give it a 3.5, I would, but I don't believe it is deserving of a 4 star rating. It is extremely fun at times, but several of the stunts required are so tedious that they pull the game down.

The key mode of the game is Career mode, in which you take the role of an up and coming stunt man. You are given a movie to work on and you go scene by scene completing various stunts that the director shouts to you through a microphone. Once several scenes in a movie are completed to the director's liking, you are paid and a movie trailer is thrown together using pre-rendered footage and snippets of some of the stunts that you pulled off.

It sounds great, and it is, but the problem that I had was the way in which the scenes are set up. A real stunt man has usually memorized the stunt that he is about to perform. He knows which way to turn at every corner before the cameras start rolling. In this game, you are told what to do just as you near the corner. You must react to the director's calls while the camera is rolling and in most cases if you're off in the slightest, you ruin the whole take and must start from the beginning. This often leads to take after take of crashes, flips and other frustrating blunders.

There are good points to this game too. The game obviously focuses on stunts and they often end up with a very realistic look. This is due in part to the physics engine used for this game. The creators took special care in making sure that the cars acted like cars, trucks acted like trucks, and everything else acted like it was supposed to. The other part of the game that gave it that realistic look was the damage that the cars took during stunts. When you slam into the ground at high speed or grind against a barrier, parts dent and in some cases fall off. In one scene, while trying to jump over a house I clipped the roof, which sent me into a high-speed spiral, sending parts of my car in every direction. It looked amazing in the replay, which is another great feature. Scenes are recorded while you attempt them and at any time you can stop and watch the replay of what you have up to that point. The replay is shown very cinematically. Sky cameras, ground cameras, and multiple other shots are used to show you what you've done. It can be very fun to watch after completing an entire stunt or a horrible crash like what I mentioned above.

Several other plusses to this game are the other modes of play. There is a "Stunt Constructor" which allows you to build your own stunts using toys, such as ramps, and vehicles you've collected throughout your career. There are also tests to help you with the basics of driving or let you practice some basic to advanced stunts. These are fun to play with when the career mode gets too frustrating, but almost the entire game revolves around the career mode.

Like I said, this is a fun yet frustrating game. I would almost equate it to the license tests in the Gran Turismo series. If you threw your controller and turned your Playstation off before getting an "A" license, then this game is probably not for you and I would recommend renting it first. If, however, you have the patience to try, try and try again, it can be very fun and rewarding.

Frustrating

After spending some more time with this game, I have decided it is necessary to update my review. I have changed my rating from 2 to 3, but many of the statements I originally made still stand. I don't understand the claims that this game is too easy. This is one of the hardest and most frustrating games I have ever played. It is an innovative concept - you're a movie stuntman and you drive around doing whatever the director tells you to do, whether it's slamming into some boxes, jumping a gap, tailing a car, or executing a cannon roll. Some of the scenes have really cool segments, like jumping through trains and stuff. And the graphics are good as well, although you do experience some slowdown if there's too much action going on. The biggest problem with this game is it's infuriating difficulty level. You can expect to restart most of the levels at least 50 times. When you get to the last movie, it's more like 100 times. What's worse is that every time you restart, the level has to reload. I've never understood why some games have to do that while others do not. Realize that unless you are a very patient gamer who actually enjoys extremely difficult games, you will experience many instances of controller-hurling fury.

This game does have its good points, however. Once you finish some of the more insane scenes, it's great fun to be able to sit back and watch the replay, and then save it so you can show your friends. There are also some extra modes in the game that add more depth. After each movie you finish, you unlock a daredevil stunt show where you get to attempt some pretty cool stunts in an arena. And I found myself spending a lot more time than I thought I would with the stunt arena constructor. As you progress through the game, you unlock toys to create your own stunt arena and vehicles to try them out with. My only complaint is that you are somewhat limited as to how many toys you can put in your arena.

Overall, this is a pretty solid game. You will get many fun hours out of it if you have the patience to endure the time it takes to nail down the route you have to take through each scene. I just can't help but think that a few changes here and there could have made the game a lot better.

A bad remake of Driver 2...less the criminal element...

ok...i have been a gamer for some years...seen lots o' titles. played this game for only an hour before becoming extremely annoyed. the graphics are weak, and there is nary a plot to push this game along. yeah, ok...some good crashes and explosions...but if i wanted that, i'd stick with Grand Theft Auto. do not buy this title. please trust me. it's insulting to those who want an in-depth gaming experience on any level.

This game is outrgeously fun and exciting, it is challenging yet simple. It is a great game for all ages and gendres. I really like that you can make your own stunts and test them to perfection. In a nutshell, this game is the best game i have played for PS2 and reccomend it to anyone and everyone.

Original idea but poorly executed

This game has many flaws. The graphics for one are basically just the same as driver for psone except for some cutscenes. The controls are poor and there is no way to change them. Apparently if u r going in reverse, u cannot use the e-brake. The gameplay itself is original but it just gets monotonous with no real storyline. U can build your own stunt arena and screw around there, but that is the high point of the game. This game is basically driver with a limited amount of space and with your every move just yelled out to u. RENT THIS GAME FIRST.

Fun, but unpolished.

I was a little disappointed with this game. I bought it the day it came out because I love driving games and it was a fresh take on the usual. However, there are some problems with the game. First of all, some missions have to be done over and over again, sometimes 20-50 times before you can go on (while others can be finished on 1 or 2 tries). The graphics are about on par with a last-generation PS1 game which makes you miss some of the obstacles and causes more frustration. The cars seem to flip over at the drop of a hat, ending the mission, and rarely can go above 80 miles an hour. The drone cars on the streets have absolutely no AI, and like to get in your way just to be a pain. Despite all this though, the game is very original and can be a lot of fun at times, but you will probably spend more time cursing like a sailor than enjoying this game.
