Monopoly 2008

PROS:
This version of Monopoly is fun and has a great interface. The pieces move around the board for you and have neat 3-D animations (the ship fires its guns, the shoe walks, the top-hat has a rabbit that pops out). There is even a paddy wagon that hauls your token off to jail. You can also customize the game so that you earn cash for landing on Free Parking, make x2 the amount for landing on GO, and choose whether or not to automatically deal all the properties at the beginning of the game.

CONS:
While this version is "multiplayer," you CANNOT play online, which was available in previous versions of Monopoly. This was a big disappointment.

Lovely for Laptops

You don't need the CD in the drive to play -- that makes it perfect for my intended usage, killing time on a laptop during business flights. I can go one better than simply conserving power by not accessing the CD -- I can replace the CD drive altogether and swap in a second battery on long flights. I didn't expect that perk when I put this on my wish list, but that alone makes it a great choice for travelers.

The interface is much improved -- you can see who owns what with tabs on the inside edge of the board, and they're colored if the property is mortgaged. Unlike the old Westwood versions, the animations aren't overly long and don't slow down play much at all. (You can turn off viewing computer players' turns altogether to make it even faster.) And the house rules options are plentiful and easy to adjust -- great if you like playing Monopoly "your way."

I didn't even notice this edition has no online play, but as an airplane player, that totally didn't matter to me. I was looking for a great single-player game of Monopoly and I found it!

This game is as good as the board game monopoly. Can't find anyone to play the board game with you? If not, then this is the game for you. It has three levels of difficulty, so it can challenge any level of skill. Great for kids and adults! This is a great buy!

This is just as great as the board game I grew up with!! I would HIGHLY recommend this to any Monopoly fan.....especially since the computer provides the other players if you are the only one interested in tycooning at the moment. Excellent graphics, great options to modify the classic rules, etc. I couldn't be more pleased with this purchase!!

Efficient and Fun for One Player

Monoply was one of my favorite board games growing up - but it had two problems that technology has been able to fix - 1) The game took a long time to play (mainly because exchanging money was time consuming) 2) It was not a very practical game to play alone. The software version solves both of these issues. All property names and cards are the same as in the original. Although, I don't think the software version would be that easy to play in a group.

Great Game

This keeps you entertain and it is like playing the actual Monopoly. The only thing is that once you land on a property you have to buy, if you choose not to you have to bid. Why can't you just pass and move along?

Otherwise great fun

The same old game

The latest(Vista) rendition of Monopoly is the best yet. It is far less graphically splendid than the last version, but those graphics took an immense amount of time. This one merely shows the dice and token travel, and even that is shortened by a mouse movement. The game is fast, the program is much smarter, and you can only beat if consistently if you learn its weaknesses(which I won't tell you, sorry). Whereas the 1st version(for DOS) was beatable every time in minutes, this version, like XP, can be a 50/50 proposition IF you play multi-player; if just mano a mano, once you learn its achilles heel, the challenge is over...

I purchased the game for my wife. She has over 30 hours of game play with this product without a single crash or bug. It appears to be very stable on XP. Excellent price and shipping from Amazon. Graphics are very nice.

This is one of my favorite games of all time!
Pros: No fighting over counting money issues
The computer has several levels of competiveness.
Easy altering of "house rules" without cheating.

Cons: The computer does not always make logical choices in strategy

All in all, a very enjoyable game.
