Lighten Up! This game is cool

Huge fan of the first two Syphon Filter series. (3rd was so-so)
I bought a Jampack disk strictly for the Syphon Demo. The controls are a little different being on a PS2 now but same run and shoot fun. The only thing missing is the bad guys screaming when they fall off building after blowing off their kneecaps. Good clean fun, Janet Jackson. Hopefully, they put that back in the final version. Outside of that, if you loved the first two, this one tows the line nicely. And the graphics are better. Granted, this is only the demo but I played the thing 50 times.
Buy it, have fun.

CO-OP GAME

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 3 / 4

This is a co-op game, where you play 4 people against the computer. THERE ISN'T ANY DEATHMATCHMODES ! I find these kind of games quite entertaining. It's like playing Conflict Desert Storm with a friend, but this is full screen with 3 other teammates!

This game is certainly online-oriented, but is that bad??? I really like when the teamwork with your 3 co-players just runs smoothly and you complete a mission under the "par time".

I must warn you that YOU ARE COMPLETELY LOST in the first 3-5 missions you play, but after that you will get the hang of the objectives and directions, and the game will be more enjoyable.

Pros
- online co-op
- maps are great
- Gameplay, only teamwork will complete the mission
- rumors say that this game will support Harddrive :)
- 17 maps, where 13 can be played online (more to come?)
- great replay value

cons
- controls are not as good as SOCOM
- Not all maps can be played online
- Lobby. Hard to find a game/players, so you need to join a clan = "agency cell"
- VERY steep learning curve

Conclusion: This is a nice game. It's a totally different game than SOCOM and should therefore not be seen as a competition to that game. Instead it's a nice addition to SOCOM, so you can play a different kind of game online

Based on, and improving on SOCOM, Kill Switch, and MOH 1

Syphon Filter is an extremley hard game, but if you enjoyed the game kill.switch you will enjoy this game. I found that the same tactics apply, because you have to get a feel for the levels before completing the mision, but the weapon selection feature has emproved quite well, the advancement of your armory is fair and allows you to advance in conjunction with your needs, the unconventional controls took some getting used to but are very nice once you are acclimated. The best feature is the charachter creator (which gives you more options for clothing as you progress). This game is a must have if you enjoyed the enemy AI, expansive levels, and weapons of SOCOM, the controls for Medal of Honor 1 (PS2), and the repetition of levels 5 or 6 times to get the feel for it, and the physics of kill.switch. it has some fabulous weapons to offer, and the feel of the game is difficult to get, but the first level is good for ironing out your controlling issues. I would give the game a five but it is a bit harder than idyllic, but stilll a must buy if you enjoy strategy/shooter type games. My suggestion is to rent it and play for at least an hour or two, give it a chance and it will grow on you, if it is available for less than thirty dollars, this is a steal and you should buy it because it is certainly worth that amount to me.

This game is awsome

This is the most fun and realistic of any game out now. It uses real cities, real guns, just not real names. I was playing Socom 2 all the time. Then i got this game, and I immediatly switched and now I'm hooked on this game. It is simply incredible!

Don't underrate this game if you don't know how to play it

Please can people STOP underrating this game if they don't know how to play it? Before I bought this game, I read the bad comments from others and gamespot critiques and my conclusion from them is this game is a piece of crap. But after I play it, I bet I would never trust and read gamespot ratings again.... NEVER... This is actually a very great game totally underrated. Here is why:

1) For those who complain about the long and confusing missions.... This is only when you don't know where to go! BUY AND READ THE STRATEGY GUIDE! The first few levels can usually be finished within 10 minutes and the later ones at most 30 minutes. If you can't get under these times, then pick another game but don't complain about the game here. Your poor comments will make other true gamers miss a great game!

2) About the enemies respawning all the time.... This is only partially true. It only happens in certain specific positions in each level, but not all of them. And people here complains about needing 15 shots to kill one enemy? Oh no, either you are a poor gamer or you are using a crappy handgun to fight enemies.... I can kill one enemy with one single shot with my handgun with precision (I don't need to tell you which handgun here -- find out yourself!). All I can tell you is to work hard in the game to unlock a more powerful handgun!

3) The ranking system is particularly awesome and the best of any shooter games I have ever played (The ranking system actually blows SOCOM II's away, which is at best confusing). There are a lot of bonus items and levels that you can unlock by fulfilling different objectives, which makes the game's replay value very high. I would say some of the bonus items and levels are very challenging, but not impossible, to unlock.

4) The feature that allows you to customize the agent's appearance is a real good one. In online, you can judge from the appearance of the agent to determine whether a player is skillful or not because only skillful agents will wear some clothes and equip kits that they have unlocked and other people don't have.

There is much more to write about its good features... .And if people don't know how to play this game, please refrain yourself from writing in this forum so that people will not miss a great game just by reading your idiotic and totally biased comments.....

Mindless Shoot em' up--would be fun if you could see it

Relating to it's previous games, Syphon FilterLOmega Stain is a 3rd person shooter with little (to almost none) planning of strategy of the shootout. The game usually sends you in a base filled with terrorists of dumb AI but big weapon power (their accuracy can later into the levels be almost bullseye every time)and those terrorists you fight usually will teleport right before your eyes (this does not actually do with the story at all, it is merely a bad placement error in the levels).
The graphics being a little over mid par of the PS2's is also stained by the fact of the game known as: Darkness. You'll be wandering and shooting blindlessy through a place of dim and dark darkness and the enemys seem to not even notice. The enemies will shoot you through the darkness--and you will be hit--very, very many times.
Lets face it--The control stinks. Its touchy and complicating at sometimes and you probably wont ever get the total feel of control. Sometimes you might send your agent rolling around or doing something completely different then wat you would normally comand.
Then comes the part that really excited me before i got it--The fact that you can create the agent you play in the levels...Yes, they messed that up too. The creation system is veyr limited. Very limited and it will leave you creating an agent who will look like every one elses.
The good part of the game is the sound. All of the many weapons (theres a lot of good ones!) sound realistic. This gives you the feel of the gun for a little bit more fun.
Yes thats the game.
GRAPHICS: 3.5/5.0
PRESENTATION AND MENUS: 5.0/5.0
SOUND: 4.5/5.0
CONTROL: 2.5/5.0
GAMEPLAY: 3.5/5.0
RE-PLAY VALUE: 2.0/5.0 (The levels get frustating because of those too-perfect, teleporting, huge numerous enemies!)

OVERALL: 3.5/5.0
The game delivers mindless shooting and frustating and boring levels. Unless you just want to a shoot a gun blindlessy at enemies on dark levels and die many times on snowy moutains leave this game on the shelf.
Such a big disapointment here.

THE GOODSIDE OF SYPHON FILTER: OMEGA STRAIN:
The fact of being like Ps1's great Syphon Fighter with better graphics.
THE BADSIDE OF THAT:
WE wanted it to be something that could stand up in today's game world but this one is just being bought because the others were so good of being that 3rd Person Shooter.

Best shooter game I have ever played

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 3 / 5

This game is the best shooter game that I have ever played. I have even played SOCOM II (that many people say it's the best) and this takes me away from playing SOCOM II actually. I begin to get addicted to it and I have been playing it since it came out early May.

The levels and the par times are actually not difficult to beat **IF** you know the levels well. It just takes some time and trials to practice before you can beat the par time. I can't imagine people playing this for nearly an hour for a level. If it's the first few time you play the level to get familiar with it, it may be OK. But after a few trials if that's still your mission complete time, then you got to have some problems in yourself and should not waste any more time playing this.

Enemies respawning are meant to be challenging... What's the point if you don't have enemies running around you in a shooter game and you are free to move everywhere without any opposition to shoot at? Come on... This is a shooter game and one of the main objectives is for you to shoot, shoot, shoot!

The lack of manual saves is actually reasonable and necessary for the setup of having par time and stealth objectives in certain missions. If you can save again and again, then the par times and stealth objectives are useless/meaningless because everybody can easily beat it in shortest time and maintain stealth since you can do saves as many times as you want. When the game have this setup, then there should not be any saves allowed and the developers do the right thing. Plus the missions are short enough (again -- know the level first!) to complete without any saves.

I strongly recommend this game to shooter lover. Everywhere is hammering this game so hard and you don't need to neccessarily listen to those ratings. They haven't really played the game enough to make comments. Like the Gamespot people they just play it a couple of times and then make the lowly comments that are completely misleading.

Big mistake in trying to emulate SOCOM

I recently picked up the game and to my disappointment it has been completely changed. It seems the creators wanted to get a piece of the SOCOM market share; i.e. online capability, setting up your character and the overall mission briefings. Unlike SOCOM, Syphon Filter is more of a clandestine type of game that requires lots out of the box thinking. By deviating from the original three Syhphon Filters, they have done a great injustice to The Omega Strain. The Gabe Logan character should still have been an option for game play, the original character control movements should have not been changed, the new movements add no value at all. If I knew all this before hand I would have not wasted my money; I rather replay Syphon Filter I-III over an over.

PITYFUL!

Ive never played these Syphon Filter games before, but the commercial on TV looked pretty good, so I bought it one evening when I couldnt really find anything else. Im a pretty good player and I usually adapt pretty quickly to little nuances in the controls and movement. Well, I couldnt even get out of the Training mode. It took me atleast 15 seconds to be able to aim at someone and fire. Needless to say, its retired from my world cause I gave it away tonight. I thought at first it was going to be cool, but its just a lesson in frustration trying to navigate or shoot. Some people might like a real challenge, but I thought it sucked. I like challenging games, but not any of this overbearing movement. I dont know who plays this crap. Unique people I suppose...............
