A suberbly made and entertaining game

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 11 / 12

This is how all movie/games should be made - with care and attention to detail. There are many things right with this game so lets take a quick look at them.

Graphics

The graphics push the ps2 to it's absolute limit, the producers even managed to get in "normal mapping" a graphical technique thought impossible on the ps2. The characters all look very like their movie counterparts, which is great news. The shadows/shading is great and has never been done to this high quality on the ps2 before. 16:9 widescreen is also included.

9/10

Sound

The music is brilliant and varies from hard beat to rousing operatic styles that really capture the mood and stir the emotions. They retain very high voice acting standards with many of the cast comming and doing voice work such as Laurence Fishbourne.

9/10

Gameplay

This is what makes or breaks a game. Think max paine crossed with a martial arts fighter. The combos and attacks are excellent and you really feel the power/grace in them. They were designed by the martial arts master who did the choreography from the films and it shows.

It's also great to see what the films left out and the many stories that occur here. Written by the directors of the movies themselves they represent what the trilogy would have been if each film was many, many hours long. Neo uses his flying to chose many varied missions over the city that are interesting and really add to the depth.

9/10

Overall

This is one of the best releases of the year, and if your a matrix fan you must get this. Even if your not it's a superb action game worthy of being in someones collection.

9/10

Worth All of the 49 dollars and 92 cents of your wallet !!

This game is everything and may be even more than you would hope it to be! Graphics? Just incredible. In the screenshots and game trailer, the graphics do not seem to be that high tech, but if you actually play the game, it will seem like a next-gen title. This game is a third person Prince of Persia slash Devil May Cry type but only that you get to be Neo as you kick some major Agent-ass down the way of an incredible journey. The combos are very impressive and fun to execute.
If you played the previous matrix game, trust me, you'll actually be staying awake this time while playing!

Finally, we have a Matrix title worth our time and money.

Once again, our dearly beloved at Shiny Entertainment/Atari/Warner Bros. have come out with another Matrix title, The Path of Neo. As we all know, in this game you are the One, and all of Neo's abilities and supreme powers belong to you. Here's my Review.

Graphics
========
I'd like to start off by saying the Graphics might not be the best aspect of the game, as there have been several complaints especially on the PC Version. My only advice: To those who have PC's, Please don't expect much from the graphics (Even if you're positive that your PC can handle it). Instead, Get a console. Overall, the graphics on the Playstation 2 can be very smooth and just beautiful at times, (especially the cut-scenes), and other times, during gameplay, it looks bad. Nevertheless, the graphics are pretty smooth through the game, and the only thing you might not like (if you're 12 years or younger) is the fact that the environment isn't that destructible. Other than that, I give the graphics an 8/10.

Gameplay
=========
This is where the game shines. The gameplay can be described with one word, Amazing. Unlike its crappy predecessor, the gameplay in The Path of Neo is Excellent. Mouth watering moves can be easily pulled off at the touch of a button or 2. To make this more interesting, there is a tutorial on how to pull of the combos (even during battle) in case you get stuck. I've carefully read reviews and heard the numerous complains about the gunplay, and I have to say those reviews are absurd. As you eventually become the One, lots of special abilities and moves are unlocked. For example, flying while shooting, stopping bullets with your hands and hurling them back at your enemies, dodging bullets aerially and acrobatically with style. No game has put this much effort in making the gunbattles this intense. You can actually daze your opponents with a couple of show off moves, kick them and send them flying in the air, then pull out a fire arm and kill them while in the air, or run across a wall and shoot enemies. In short, the gunplay is not only way better than any other Matrix game out there, but in my opinion is the best when mixing martial arts with gun fighting. The combat system is just wonderful. Neo can do just about anything he does in the movies, run up walls, stop bullets, fly and so much more. Even simple hand-to-hand combat is dazzling. As you grow into the One, the moves that you unlock will make you wet your pants. Not only can you easily stand up and kill agents, or pull off some wonderful moves with a nearby weapon, but also you can comfortably fight and destroy multiple enemies, (Even agents) at once. The true gameplay of the Path of Neo cannot be described in words, you'll have to check it out to fully experience what its like being the One. Trust me, you will NOT be disappointed. This game is worth the entire 50 bucks. I give the gameplay a 10/10

Sound
======
I really don't pay too much attention to sound, but I think the sound in the game is fairly decent. When fighting Agents, bosses, or other tough opponents, i think the music that plays truly immerses you in the Matrix Universe. Overall, I give the sound an 8.5/10.

Overall
========
For hardcore matrix fans, and those who love fighting genres, this game is a MUST buy. I give it 5 stars out of 5.

This game has to be one of the best, most interactive games I've played in a long time. The graphics are awesome and the effects are amazing. This game allows you to play as Neo. His moves mimick those seen in the Matrix movies. This game is nothing but fast action and wholesome fun. Some parts may be a little challenging, but who wants a game you can beat in a day anwyay? The more I play, the more I get into the game.

Cool game for Matrix fans check it out now!!!

It is as good as the commercials imply the next "big thing
to hit console system is not an ape". LOL

This game is pretty awesome, just like "Enter the Matrix"
it never gets too boring and thus live up to expectations
for the most part. Ok there are some drawbacks but
really the graphics, controls and cool Matrix moves you
can pull out along with playing Neo for the first time
are all bonuses!!!!

That was the major complaint two years from Matrix
fans, now Neo is the main character.

Let's see how the games builds up shall we folks:

Graphics:

The graphics were quite excellent if I must say
so, I really don't know what geeks complain about
saying it sucks. The characters look just like they
did in the Matrix including Neo. The movie looks
spectacular in full color. On a big screen tv ,
thr graphics rule. Lots of detail everywhere showing
the Matrix Very nice.

Sound

Yep great here as well, the actors from the movie do
provide some of their voices, the game itself uses
clips and audio for the movie so you really feel like
you're in the movie!!!!! How cool is that. That has
to be very cool.

Controls

The controls ok we're perhaps the weakest part to some
gamers, but I thought they were good. You have a whole
can of buttkicking matrix combos to do here. The most
powerful ones will keep you alive especially when
you meet up with the Agent Smith and others.

Extras

Ok some ok extras following the game including a Making
of extra.

Challenge

The challenge is pretty cool. It is subpar but
only because I consider myself a veteran gamer with decades
of experience here. Most vets will pass the game within
a week or two. However, that doesn't take away too much
from the pleasure here. The game is pretty challenging
when it needs to be. The battles with the Agents have
to be the highlight. There are some spectacular battles
that make this game buying or rent.

I would recommend this game to any fan of the movie,
or Matrix universe. You will not be disappointed and
it would make a great Christmas gift.

On the right path!

I finally got my copy of The Matrix:Path of Neo and have been having a blast playing it!

Here's what I thought...

GRAPHICS

Not the game's greatest strength, but they have their pros and cons. Some objects can be blocky, yet at the same time the environments are beautifully detailed. Really, the most beautiful aspect of the game belongs to the overall design and it's environments. From visually dramatic shafts of light, to dreamy blossoms floating through the air, to eery night time street encounters. The game sets some really nice moods.

Frankly I gladly overlook the few graphic's shortcomings due to where the game shines...

ACTION

When Neo runs up an agent's torso and administers a devastating barrage of kicks to his face in slow motion, it is only too authentically reminiscent of the Matrix series. All of the various combos (and there are many) have subtle details built into them that make the gameplay fantastic and the stuff of a great action game!

Path of Neo gradually builds your abilities from a clumsy shove to impressively complex aerial attacks, upper cuts, kick combos, sword slashes, slowing bullets and eventually stopping bullets cold in their tracks. Everything beautifully orchestrated to give you that feeling of being super human and truly "the one". In what other scenario would you be able to grab enemies and use their bodies as a weapon to pummel each other?

FILM INTEGRATION

Throughout the game you are fed film montages which serve as nice introductions to the levels you are about to enter. However, they can be a bit random feeling and will even clumsily feed you a shot from levels you aren't even close to yet. Foreshadowing? Who knows?

The montages aren't masterpieces, but in the end, they manage to do their job and bring the mood of the film to the game.

SOUND

Impressively, the original Matrix actors came in to do their own voice work, adding even more authenticity to the game.

The music soundtrack is rich and moving, keeping you engaged during tense scenes and giving moody ambiance to the environments.

OVERALL

Despite a few flaws, Path of Neo boils down to be pretty much everything you want it to be and worthy of The Matrix name. The superb fighting animations and the fact that you can finally play as Neo and use all his super powers are elements that set Path of Neo in a whole different league than Enter the Matrix. There's really no comparison. Path of Neo is what a Matrix game should be and now finally is.

A must for anyone who enjoyed the Matrix films and a great game in it's own right! Enjoy.

Alright folks, lets recal the last matrix game shall we? bottom line Enter the Matrix wasnt as good as we thoguht. all you die hard matrix fans would definatly like this game The Pate of Neo. Finaly a matriz game where you can play as the chosen one him self, NEO! u basicly play through all 3 movies as neo, the choices you make through out the game effect your gameplay from there and on...

The Good::: When yo complete a mission you are forced in to a move shop. In the move shop you can purchase new style moves like stopping bullets, dodging dramatic punches and shots, jumping really high, matriz vision, and all diffrent types of punch shoot combos.
Through the game u will be able to expierence the the dramatic fight scene action in the matrix films, u will expierence the action of fighting millions of mr.smiths with a pole, fighting mr.smith in the air and ground. and ofcourse the scene where neo does his little acrobatic, bend my back over to dodge a bullet scene.

The Bad::: No flying! after all you expect neo the chosen one to fly! it'd be a lot cooler if this was a free roaming game like Grand Left Auto, Hulk ultimate destruction, and spiderman 2. Neo how ever can jump very high sorta like flying.
thts pretty much the only bad, the rest is pretty awsome.

Bottom line:: The Path of Neo is the die hard matrix fan's bible game. even if ur not a matrix fan, ull still probably enjoy this game...

My Review: I give this game a 4 out of 5

Finally, You Are The One

Enter The Matrix was a good game mostly because it offered a video-game playthrough of the Matrix: Bullettime fighting, off-the-wall kung fu moves, crazy stunts and overall fun. However, the developer Shiny, neglected to give gamers and Matrix fans Neo, the hero of the films. Instead they gave us Niobe and Ghost.

Shiny has changed his ways with Path of Neo. The game starts off nicely: After the inital titles, you find yourself in a dream with Morpheus, choosing to take the Red Pill (And continue your journey through the Matrix) or the Blue Pill. However, the choice isn't very important. If you choose the Red Pill, you continue through the inital events of the film. You choose the Blue Pill, Neo wakes up in his bed. Period. About a five second ending. Choosing the Red Pill drops in the middle of a Dream Lobby, where several waves of enemies come to greet you. For example, the first wave consists of security guards, the next of policemen etc. Depending on your progress, you get to choose a difficulty setting.

Overall, playing as Neo is an awesome experience. Neo has a vast selection of hand-to-hand moves. Later in the game, you're able to upgrade moves. Neo can battle multiple enemies at once as well as have a vast amount of attacks. For example, while I was playing the Burly Brawl level which is a battle against hundreds of Neo's archnemesis' (Agent Smiths), I pressed a random set of buttons which caused Neo to knock two of the Smiths to the ground, grab them by their feet, and use them as spinning windmill weapons against the waves of enemies.

The game has about 20 or so levels, most of them being pretty fun. However, the rest are somewhat frustrating and repetitive. For example, after the Dream Lobby sequence, you find yourself playing as Thomas Anderson trying to use stealth to escape from Agents. Most of the sequence involves you following Morpheus's instructions, which eventually turns into climbing a skyscraper and then running from the rooftop to the floor.

Another frustrating level is a new sequence added after the Chateu scene in the Matrix Reloaded. Instead of simply flying off, Neo has to go through three levels and then fly off. Overall, the original version is better. But anyway, the first of these levels, puts you in an upside-down world filled with multiple doors that warp you to multiple places in the level. This puzzle-solving element is really annoying, espescially since you have an uber-powerful superhero who can kick a foe so hard that he smashes through a wall or who can throw an enemy into the ceiling and then pin him to the floor before spinning him around and tossing him ten feet. Whats more, the enemies in this level are ants. No, I am not kidding. Ants. Plus, the ants are man-sized and for some-reason know kung fu.

Besides these inconveniences, the missions are really fun. In two sequences, you are given the choice of doing certain mission in any order: One in which you have to rescue potential Red Pills from Agents and another where you have to rescue trapped Captains. There are even a handful of training levels in which you learn the basics of the game and get a feel for it: In one level you go to a stage taken straight from the Enter the Dragon film (There's even the control room where Bruce Lee sets a snake loose and scares the operators silly). In another you battle a samurai with a sword, who later in the level gains more power and then forces Trinity to come aid you, which eventually culminates in you having to battle multiple clones of the samurai.

Unlike Enter the Matrix, Path of Neo sports a nice set of melee weapons for you to use, such as a wide variety of swords (Including Katana's, tri-horned, medevial), hatchets, multiple staffs and even a candleabra (For fighting the kung-fu ants). Each of these items have a list of attacks as well. For example, while using the Burly Brawl staff to fight hundreds of Smiths, one attack allows you to stick the pole into the ground and kick the Smiths attacking you with 360 degrees (Just like the movie). You then lean down and knock the Agents off their feet and then by pressing a combination of buttons, leap into the air and slam the ground with tremendous force that knocks the Smiths thirty feet into the air. Another attack with the Katana allows you to slash at a stationary enemy about fifteen times with lightning fast speed.

The game's graphical abilities pushes the PS2's limits. In my opinion, it even surpasses that of the Xbox, which sometimes looks much darker and not as detailed. Except for some random glitches, the graphics look superb. So does the sound: Smacking waves of Agent Smiths quickly with a metal pole sounds just right and in sync with the movie. My regret however is that a lot of the hit music from the films didn't make it the game: The Burly Brawl music or Neodammerung from the final battle sequence against Smith.

Speaking of the final battle against Agent Smith, you're probably better watching the scene from the movie than playing it out. It's a huge dissapointment: You battle first against Smith on the ground, and then take to the skies. The aerial controls are somewhat clunky, and the devastating combos from the rest of the game aren't availiable. There is also a final boss battle, whose two cinematics are nicely brought together by some excellent CGI technology. The Wachowski Brothers actually come on screen to give you the big surprise before the cinematic.

Overall, The Matrix: Path of Neo allows you to play through the films and beyond of the Matrix trilogy. It has everything Enter the Matrix didn't have: A longer martial-arts list, creative melee weapons and a much better main character. However if you aren't a Matrix fan or you haven't seen the game, ignore it: Even those who some who are fans of the films can't bear the recut footage which doesn't do a good job of telling the story. Overall though, Path of Neo is one truly excellent game.

the best action game of all time

this game is so much fun you start out as a wimpy desk worker
you have to get out of the building without the agents chatching you then once you get out of the building you hop on the back of a bike with trinity your partner then you go to the new world and you go in a ton of diffrent fighting and shooting training missions.

Finally you get to go in the matrix but what really sucks is when you fight the agents they are super hard to kill not to fight they suck at fighting.Butthe game is based on all three movies and is very fun if you like fighting/shoting games i highly recoment this action packed game.

This game RULES!!!!

Even though I was hugely dissappointed by Enter the Matrix, I decided to get a copy of Path of Neo because the screenshots on the internet looked pretty decent. Little did I know that Path of Neo would surpass my expectations. Not only does it do the Matrix series justice, it's also just a great game in general, with great atmosphere, great graphics and great fighting action. I also love that the environments are destructive. Adds to the intensity and fun. The style of fighting is very true to the film and being able to kick into bullet time makes the game very authentic feeling and super slick. Very satisfying that the characters really look like those in the film, the orchestral score has the same feel as the film and I'm so thankful that the Walchalski Bros scripted the game. It all ends up making you feel like you are in an interactive movie, and being a Matrix film lover, I couldn't pick a better film to be interactive in!
