It has been awhile since I played this, I have the PS2 version and I I bet you could get a used copy for about 99 cents. This is probably the most violent game I have ever played. There is a violence lock in the game that can let you control whether dismembered limbs or blood are allowed. If you turn everything on, you have one big goreapalooza. This game goes beyond mature. Dont let the kids get there hands on this!

SOF is the best

its expectations as a great action game.

The online multiplayer game rocks, but I gave it a 4 only because of the maps. I think they are way too full of 'furniture' and fixings that really don't have a place and tend to get in the way of the action.

It is a fun challenge however to learn to use the grenades properly and I feel that there is a certain amount of skill needed to be competitive with this game online.

I recommend it.

Flawed and entertaining.

SOF is an oddity in modern gaming. While most games try to cut it by having a deep story, cutting edge graphics, realistic game play or even complex game play, SOF is none of these and for that it is a good ride.

First I would like to point out that the game has taken a lot of flak for it's violent content. It is true that there is gore in the game, but any seasoned Quake, UT, or Half-Life players (If you have never played those you should not be reading this) will find it's content little more than another day at the office. Yes you can blow off limbs or blow open a guy's guts. However that graphics are so dated that this seems unrealistic, do our guts really look like pvc tubes?

Another thing, the graphics are OLD. While a lot of the Q2 engine code has been updated, it still does not escape it's basic thresholds. The level design however it impressive at times. The models also are not too shabby considering the engines' age. It even uses alpha channels. Even though some of the shiny textures on objects I would not think to be actually shiny. It is a shame really that one trip outdoors tells you that the engine was around before most people today had the internet.

There are some quirks in the game desing. Each time the game boots up it warns you that this graphicly depicks real world combat. Yet the game fails to be realistic, it's almost a joke. Things can stick to walls (that are not supposed too), grenades have fixed trajectories, tanks can be taken out with sinper rifles, not matter how many missles you fire at a door it will still stand, the enemies lack an unterstanding of doors and grenades and the weapons have only a vague likeness to real world counterparts. Also you earn money, but to what with it? It is never a factor in buying weapons. For that matter you will pick up weapons and ammo in the game, it doesn't matter what you picked out before hand. Also stealth is supposed to matter, the AI is so basic it does not.

That said, this is a very enertaining game. Worth it if you like just some good old mindless bloody action to rot your brain on.

This game has a good plot. There a medium amount of missions. The graphics could be improved. The Gold Edition is the best version because various bugs on levels were fixed. If you already have Soldier of Fortune just download the Gold Edition patch.

I have just been playing the demo of SOF and I must say that I am a bit dissapointed. The graphics date back almost to the old Duke Nukem 3d game style graphics, not anywhere close to current standards. The weapon fire is the most unrealistic I have ever seen in a FPC. The storyline is good and the playability is good, but it could have been so much better if the graphics were worth a flip, but they're not, but it is a fun game nonetheless, and for the cheap price it's going at now, should be worth the money, but I would never pay full price for a game the lacks as much graphically as this one does.

The first time I played this game at my friend's house I could not stand the violence, it was disgusting and really offensive so I played most of the game with a parental lock (Which allows you to take blood and everything you find offensive out) which is a good point of the game... Other wise it was pretty good and extremely realistic, with all the body motions and details etc... I do think one of the downs about this game is that there are bearly any decent puzzles or anything, I mean it's basically a go around and shoot the heck out of everybody and till there is no more living and then that's it, level complete, kinda boring... Well I don't think I'll buy this game but hopefully the company who designed Soldier of Fortune (Activision) will learn from their mistakes and come up with a Soldier of Fortune 2 which'll be 10 times as good...

Considering this game's realistic level, it is absolutely one of the best first person shooters!

The graphics are up to date; the walls and floors are perfectly detailed. The enemies move somewhat realisticly, especially when being shot at (also to add, getting limbs blown off).

The audio is normal, nothing special, not good, but not bad. The voice acting isn't all that, but you really don't notice it.

The gameplay is very fun. The storyline is simple, and is kept simple. The game is simple as well, mainly to get from Point A to Point B, with a few minor obstacles (such as enemies, or jumping through a window, sadly). There are no difficult parts in the game, except the bosses... The game also gets somewhat boring after constantly shooting at baddies throughout...

Anyway, the game is very fun to play, has alot of realistic blood and guts in it, and the storyline isn't bad.

I am a FPS lover and this game just rocks. I've had this game for about 9 months now, through out that time and now I have bought a lot of FPS games and nothing comes closer than this game when it comes to realistic. The characters are so real and you can shoot enemies just about anywhere on there bodies and will act it out as if you really did shoot them there. (Ex: if you shoot an enemy on the leg he will yell for his leg to hurt or he will start to limp. Or you can shoot his hand and he will yell for it as well and surrender to you) Of course the violence is optional, you can put it in or you don't. Personaly I like to see everything realistic. The levels are awsome as well. They take you around the world with different environments. The characters voices are so real with real accents. The weapons are breath taking, give you a verity to choose from, from knifes to granade launchers... This game is the best so far and now that there coming out with SOF 2 in December its a deffinite must buy...

Other games that fallow this one are...

No One Lives Forever, Undying, Deus Ex, Hitman Codname 47, Project IGI: I'm Going In.

THIS GAME ROCKS. There are tons of separate points on the body where you can shoot. The detail is meticulous. This game has WAY more detail than Quake III or Halflife. You can blow peoples arms and legs off. Or take a double barrel shotti to the breadbasket and actually see their guts hang out. NOT AN EXAGERATION, this game is the bomb when it comes to 1st person shooters. And the AI is far superior to Halflife.

But wait, the multiplayer is ABSOLUTELLY REDICULOUS. Quake III cannot compare to this multiplayer. I have played this game and been yelling so loud that my neighbors thought there was a fight at my place. You can throw a knife at an opponent and actually see the blade stick out of their head while blood gushes onto the concrete. Then you can grab your knife back and push a button to wipe the blood off of it! Or take the double barrel shotti and blow off an enemy's arm, they'll keep coming until you splatter their brains across the walls. Or maybe you fired a rocket at them and blew both their legs off. You can actually hear their moans and cries for help as they bleed to death on the ground. Once again, this is NOT an exaggeration.

GET THIS GAME!

Do not fool around with Halflife or Quake III this is it!
