A book only a newbie could love..

Nice, somewhat informative. Well drawn maps, but not really helpful to someone like a newbie who's lost and /shouting for directions. The average novice would find it useless I think. Yea sure it shows landmarks, that's if the person can find those even. Location grids are by far easier to navigate with and its very easy to get lost in allot of zones and not be able to see landmarks that could be familiar. I agree with "This one Guy", get a REAL map. Only good as a collectors item you ask me. Get better maps online.

A waste of money. Good if you're a collector I guess but not useful if you want maps. These are just small pictures of maps. They're not even useful except for very general directions....

Yes it wouldn't normally make sense to purchase maps when you can get them for free online. This makes an awesome collector's item type of thing though. I saw a sample of one of the maps from my e-mail newsletter and they look awesome! 3D Maps and so pretty and detailed, to boot! From what I understand it also includes maps of the new Planes as well. :) I am totally getting this! Plus now I can throw out all the maps that are taking up a large chunk of my EQ notebook (yes, I know I'm a dork). :) So anyway if you like pretty things it's not a bad purchase...

Nice but not an Atlas

Never be lost in EverQuest again,that's what they say but if you use this Atlas as a guide you'll never figure out where you are. This book is very nice and it's filled with losts of pretty pictures with good useful imformation about each zone but it's not a guide to keep beside your computer while you play.While the maps are pretty, they are small with little detail. But the major problem with this book is that the zones are listed alpabeticaly for the whole world, I mean you don't put Alaska next to Afganastan! This is a nice book to read through in your spare time but if you need maps to use while you play go to one of the EQ web sites and print what you need.

Not much for your money here; "Atlas" is just a collection of little facts and tid-bits about the zones of EQ. This collection would actually be quite useful except for the fact that almost all of the information it offers is readily accessible from a number of EQ web sites. The only thing going for "Atlas" is that it offers players with poor connections the opportunity to find the information they seek without waiting forever on their browsers.

Bottom line : You will likely want to save your money.

The maps are next to worthless. No key locations are marked, some entries/exits are only marked in the most general way, and the 3-D areas are hard to follow.

Should be titled "Everquest Story Line with Illustrations" instead of "Everquest Atlas". If you haven't explored some of the high end zones then this will be marginally helpful. No maps for the planes except for PoK. I feel somewhat cheated as it seemed like this was going to be included based on product description.

I really wish there was an EQ Atlas, but this isn't it. Comparing it to the Prima DAOC Atlas, the EQ one is just a pale joke.

This is beautiful atlas, not a cheat guide!

What you describe is a cheat book. I'd rather have an atlas. Beautiful maps, history and background, it's like a National Geographic Atlas book, but for EverQuest.

Let's put it this way: the book is worth the money for sheer volume of maps, it's great for its spiral bound back (so you can fold it up and have the map in front of you), but it [is useless] for information.

Don't believe the blurb on the box that says "you'll discover excitement even in places they knew well". And the box just plain lies about descriptions of quests; I've only skimmed it but (for instance) the Shadowhaven quest isn't there. And I haven't seen *any* information about *any* quests.

Example of bad or missing information: Eastern Plains of Karana, the group of shops is a fairly important location, the one near the gorge is fairly important, and if I remember correctly there's barbarians to the east. None are on the map. No mention is made of the giants or ogres, only that there are griffons and "peculiar creatures". In Queynos Hills, it talks about Holly Windstalker, whom I haven't seen in ages. Makes no mention of the brother and sister who will make wolf skins and bear skins into clothing.

(To be fair, in East Karana, the village to the right and the one near the Gorge is mentioned in the text description, but the *good* maps such as those on EQ Atlas has them pinpointed on *their* maps.)

If you've already printed out every map you can find from EQ Atlas, this isn't the book for you. If you've only got a few maps in your scrapbook, or if you don't *have* a scrapbook, or if you're fairly new and need an overview of a few zones, this book is worth the [money] - but not a heck of a lot more.

The CD-ROM that came with mine is pretty much worthless; if it had actually come with the text of the book it would have been a heckuvalot better. The wallpaper? Heck you can create better yourself while playing the game...

I'd actually give it two and a half stars - two stars being overpriced but you can probably make something of it, three stars being "decent value for the money, not perfect but it'll do".
