They Destroyed It!

They gave us all this new end game content which caused old end game content to become worthless. I still prefer the old instances but nobody wants to run them. It is all about the new instances because guess what they did not edit and upgrade the loot tables for the old ones. So blue and purples are lesser than greens in the new zones.

The new zone is just missing that joy the old areas had. I loved the little details of the old zones. The new zones are just missing those little details.

Things they also destroyed include the PVP, the balance between sides (horde and alliance), and usability of this game for people who do not want to upgrade.

In addition this expansion and it's subsequent patches cause my machine to crash more than ever. I miss the good old days.

At this time I am currently looking for a new game to play. This is no longer as fun as it used to be.

my take...

A sudden, unexplained urge came over me as I entered Best Buy with a group of friends and headed towards the video game aisle. I had known about this game for ages, and had never even thought of touching it. In fact I had never even played an MMO before, yet 2 years after the release of one of the world's best-selling MMO's to date, I found myself exiting the store with World of Warcraft and the Burning Crusade expansion. I truly could not explain my unnatural desires, in fact it was only through the fact that a friend played that I succumbed to said urges. Had I been wiser, I would have taken heed his telling eyes, cold and lifeless, urging me to stay away. His words and affirmations were weak and unconvincing, and for a reason. He did not want to play with me. He did not want me to play at all.

This game has a sinister secret, one that took me awhile to realize myself: this game tricks you into thinking it's actually fun. Oh you'll think it's fun, I did, but after about a month it hit me: this game kinda sucks. I played this game for a month and a half, and immediately after cancelling my account, played one round of Team Fortress Classic and one round of Battlefield 2142, and honest to god had more fun in those 2 rounds than all the time spent in this game combined. Don't get me wrong, this game has it's good points, but they are not enough to warrant the thousands of hours you'll have to dedicate to this game to get anywhere or do anything.

First off, it takes forever to run anywhere. I didn't notice this at first, but after 12 hours you realize crap, I just wasted 12 hours doing, and then turning in, 3 quests. I'm not exaggerating at all. It honestly took me about 12 hours to do 3 quests. People will be like, well you get a mount at level 40, well wow, that's level 40 and I'm level 27 and it took me a month and a half to get here. So no, I really don't feel like waiting for some stupid mount at level 40, because it will take me 3 months to get it. Speaking of doing quests, at the beginning, I read everything, I was so excited. I never skip cutscenes in games, and could honestly see myself as a writer for video games, so I was kinda interested. After a while, it pretty much boils down to some dude going "get 23 goretusk gall bladders so I can bake this pie for my son", which you realize after reading like 4 paragraphs. Most all quests are like this, and according to my roomate who played till level 60 and got sucked back in to play with me this time around, all the later quests are, here talk to this person halfway across the world and then travel halfway across the world back to turn it in. Wow, some good that mount does when you have to take basically the same amount of time to do the quests!

Another thing on a related note, is that this game basically discourages you from exploring. That was one of my main attractions of the game, and one of the things I thought i'd have the most fun doing, because of the amazing art direction, but then you realize there's always gonna be a quest that you could have done there. once you get in this mentality you will never want to explore anywhere, and once you do do the quest, you'll have "explored", and never wanna go there again. and thats even if there is a quest there! so many times i've passed up a new area using that logic, and then i'll just never go there because i'll never get a quest for that area. not to mention half the times there'll be high-level creeps (computer-controlled enemies) that see you from a mile off and hone in to kill you...

The second thing that really pissed me off is the level differences. I got this game to play with my friend, but unfortunately my friend became a level 37 in all of 3 seconds and I can't do anything with him! Wow, that's fun, he kills some stuff for me in like 2 seconds so I get a quest done. Wow let's do that for an hour or two, this is amazing, watching my friend instantly kill all enemies. My roomate started over with me, and yet, unless you both play at the exact same time, always, you run the risk of being different levels, which again means you pretty much can't play with each other, especially after like 1 or 2 levels difference, because then you can't get or share certain quests because you are too low level. I don't really know how they could avoid this, but it is just so frustrating. The level differences also make it impossible to cross anywhere on a PvP server without some higher-level guy killing everyone, including weak low-level guys, just for fun. If you are saying "play on a non pvp" server, well no, see cause I got this multiplayer game, and i like my multiplayer games multiplayer, so no i will not join a server where i basically can't even fight the other team unless i get lucky that we BOTH have PvP toggled, and are magically within a 2 level difference. You can fight in arenas, but whatever, that doesn't cut it.

The third thing is basically forget about this game if you have some semblence of a social life. Unless you play this game 24/7 you will never reap the "benefits" of hitting level 70. The benefits, by the way, of reaching level 70, are basically not having anything to do anymore. You will be able to expore Outland at this point, but then all you really have to do is get armor, and do instances (Instances are basically private dungeons that you and like 4 other people go in, and usually have a big boss in the end). Instances by the way, are either really fun, or really frustrating. They are a pain to put together, and half the time people will leave like an hour and a half through, right at the boss (I've honestly had this happen twice), and is EXTREMELY frustrating if you need to beat the boss for a quest. People in groups will either consist of:
a) dudes who take the game way too seriously and get so mad when you do anything out of line, even if it is more fun to fight 2 enemies at once that might kill you. (some dude actually told me to wait while he "pulled" the enemies and fought them himself, and our other 2 party members just sat around waiting).
b) little kids who don't know what they're doing and get you killed/steal all your loot/chests/time by leaving early because it's their bed time at 10:00.
c) guy who's not a priest. if you don't have a priest or paladin in your group, which a decent amount of times you won't, expect to have to run back for 15 minutes after being "wiped", meaning your party got killed and you get to resurect at a graveyard and run 3 miles back to the dungeon entrance, and then back where you got killed IN the dungeon. So basically there will almost always be enemies respawning on the way to get there, in the cave or whatever that leads to the instance, that will probably kill you a few times. Yay!

The fourth, and probably final thing, is that NOTHING IN THIS GAME EVER CHANGES. This is apparantly the World of WARcraft, yet all you do is fight stupid little enemies that respawn, in specified areas. Even the actual players pretty much have to fight each other in specified areas (Neutral Zones/Arenas). There is no "war" going on. This game would be almost 1000 times better if you could actually lose territories in the game. If a raid comes into your town and defeats the enemies there, it should become that side's territory. Things around you should change. I'm tired of going outside Silvermoon City, seeing some stupid soldier NPC's (non-playable characters, aka characters in the game controlled by the computer) standing around, saying they are in battle and want you to kill some undead guys down yonder, killing them, and then having the undead guys respawn, and the soldier NPC's who gave me the quest ( and don't help you fight the undead guys by the way), supposedly being in battle, just stand there for the rest of the game! That is so stupid. I don't know what they could do at this point to change it, but it just takes me out of the game so much to see stupid things like this all the time.

When I eventually decided to quit this game, I felt its addictive nature take hold. My hand was hovering over the final confirm button and I honestly didn't want to make the little peon cry. It probably made up about half of the reasons not to quit. But the second I hit that button I felt the biggest sense of relief in my entire life. Everytime I looked over for the next 2 weeks or so and watched my roomate (who eventually quit) taking ten hours to run somewhere to do something stupid to get something stupid, I knew I made the right decision.

I now waste my life playing different video games. They however, are 10 times more fun, and don't require a montly fee. Oh, and there is a 5th thing: this game stole $90 and a month and a half of my life away and frankly I'd like it all back please.

Same Quests different titles

I started off playing World of Warcraft at release only to quit a year later do to the lack of end game content for the casual gamer. Spending 30hrs a week in Molten Core or Black Wing Lair just was not my idea of fun. After some friends told me all the great things about the expansion I decided to reactivate my account and give it a try.

To make this review short. The type of quests are the exact same that were prior to the release of this expansion. Go to this area, kill 200 of this monster to collect 6 pieces of certain item, rinse and repeat.

The addition of 10man raid groups was a pleasant surprise, but even this still makes the end game fall short. The 10 man dungeons in this game have pretty much no impact on the main story line and are just stepping stones to the larger 25man main story dungeons. So pretty much what this means is unless you are in a hard core raiding guild it will take you at least a year, if ever, to see the main boss in this expansion.

World of Warcraft does have some positive attributes to it, but I have never been the type to want to grind out dungeons repeatedly in the hope of the one item I needed from there would drop, and like I said unless you plan to spend every seven days a week, 5hrs a day raiding you will never see the end game content, or have the best items for your class.

So to sum up, you pay for a game that you can never complete do to the hard core raiding atmosphere, the pvp system with the institution of resilence makes any button clicker able to kill you, and be prepared to enjoy the grind fest either in dungeons or in battlegrounds to get any items that may be helpful to your character.

don't waste your money on this

I have played WoW for about a new year with a bunch of my friends. I finally cancelled my account a month ago. I can't stand this game. I can't believe how many months I wasted getting where I am game in this instead of doing other things with my my life. Then shortly after I hit 60 comes the expansion pack and all my favorite instances are suddenly empty day after day. That makes it much harder to level once you hit 50 and makes 1/4 of the game impossible to play in. I also love how mature everyone in this game is. In the capital cities (like ironforge) kids are pretty much fighting with each other all day. Noone really takes this game seriously either. They work as hard as they can getting to 70 in a few weeks by having someone power level them there all the time only so they can get the best gear right away and then brag to some newcomer about it. That's all the game is really about is getting better gear. I've been in way too many groups where some fight has started and everyone bailed or someone asks a question in general chat and gets some smartass remark. I also love that I have reported so many people who have made racist and/or vulgar comments to other players and Blizzard did absolutely nothing about it. A lot of the people either only play this game to kill time from what I see or just aren't mature enough to just have fun and enjoy the game. My advice is find more meaningful ways to entertain yourself...go out and play basketball or something, and for god sakes if you're a parent do not let them lose their life to this game by buying it for them.

Blizzard delivers with The Burning Crusade

World of Warcraft is one of the greatest games of our time. It is the kind of game that makes gamers feel bad for non gamers who will never experience the massive world of Azeroth and one of the few games that never gets boring and has an infinite amount of things to do.

When The Burning Crusade expansion pack came on the horizon it created a massive hype for a fresh chapter in the games ongoing legacy. Once The Burning Crusade launched it truly did live up to its hype and is a fantastic achievement in the World of Warcraft franchise.

With the new level cap of 70 giving veteran players a fresh expirience as well as the two new races it feels like your just starting again. Along with tons of new quests, items, weapons, dungeons and raids and more, Blizzard gives us a huge variety of new content to enjoy making it a worthy expansion pack to one of the greatest games of our time.

Dont pass this one up!

Class Balance Lost in this Expansion

This expansion ruined WoW.
Got my character to 70 bought the flying mount, then canceled my subscription.
Why? you may ask, class balance has been ruined.
I spent more time being corpse camped by random mages, then I spent playing.
To be sure, I understand that corpse camping is a part of the game, what I don't understand is how a level 70 character can be basically 1 hit by another 65 plus character.
Solution? simple, put a limit on the amount of dots a mage can stack on another character in pvp, have different limits applied to pve.
Anyway, If you enjoy WoW you may be disappointed by the BC expansion.
Side Note, IF you are a WoW junky that spends every waking hour in game, and have all the best gear, then BC may be just what the doctor ordered, for the casual gamer though, its a game stopper.

Great game

Enjoying the new content of the game. Loading took awhile but it was from the millions of people loading up the game and obtaining the patch on the first day it was released. Your character has to be level 58 to enter the Outland itself. For those under 58, they offer 2 new characters with the area to level from level 1 to 20. Also Hunters have new pets to obtain. The cap has been raised from 60 to 70 and that is a nice plus.

More of the same, but definitely not a bad thing

The World of Warcraft expands with the release of the Burning Crusade introducing a whole new world for you to explore with your level 58+ character. The new Outland is considerably more "alien" in nature to the more familiar fantasy environments that most WoW players are used to in Azeroth, but with that concept Blizzard used their artistic freedom to create new visually-stunning areas. It adds a whole new element to the sense of adventure.

In addition to the Outland, there are the two new starting races, Draenei for the Alliance and Blood Elves for the Horde, and their respective starting areas. The Blood Elves add a more aesthetically pleasing race to the Horde while the Draenei add a non-traditional element to the Alliance, though the most noticeable gameplay difference is additions of the shaman and paladin classes to the Alliance and Horde, respectively. Again, their new areas are very impressive visually.

The Burning Crusade still retains most of the traditional elements of WoW while giving things that expansion-bump. Jewelcrafting has been added as a profession. Profession caps are up from 300 to 375. Epic land mounts are cheaper. There are now flying mounts for the Outlands. They've scaled things down to allow for more casual players to experience "end-game content" while still keeping things fairly epic in nature. More world pvp goals have been implemented and can break up the monotony of questing. There is a lot of reading if you really want to get into the story, but it's not all that necessary to enjoy the game.

The game does a very good job at making things seemingly simple (computer models and stats) into something important and satisfying. It still amuses me when I hear someone who's 50+ years old talk about their character's attack power and agility. While the game still has its roots in the RPG elements involving gear and statistics, it is all very transparent in terms of playing the game. The expansion also helps balance the playing field for the players that weren't able to run 40 man dungeons by giving good quest rewards early on. The items received early on in Outland easily match many of the Tier 1 and 2 rewards from pre-expansion.

The World of Waracraft: Burning Crusade may be a lot of the same (quests, loot, weird General chat, etc.), but that definitely doesn't take away from the game. Whether it's stepping through the Dark Portal for the first time and seeing the epic battle between the allied forces against the demons at the steps to getting stomped by your first huge Fel Reaver to seeing a lvl 70 character flying up, up, and away on a flying mount.. the expansion adds plenty to keep you playing while keeping many of the familiar aspects that made it addicting in the first place. This expansion comes highly recommended, but I doubt you need me to tell you that...

The expansion is a blast!

World of Warcraft is a great game, but I have to admit that I was getting bored. My friends and I really aren't interested in the huge raids, so we found we were just levelling new characters through the same old stuff all the time. Now the expansion is here, and Blizzard has done a fantastic job of recapturing the player's interest. The new zones have all sorts of colorful and dangerous new critters, and even the mining and herb collecting has gotten interesting. There are also some great new instances, and you don't need to be part of a 40-player raid to see them. There are still a few small bugs that Blizzard needs to work out (like making it so you can cook on the fires in Shattrath), but all-in-all it's worth every penny. Kudos Blizzard!

If you like WoW, it is a must have.

The title pretty much sums it up. It is a must have for those that will keep on playing WoW. Access to the best area in the game (Outlands) a new system to instances (Shorter with less encounters) and a whole bunch of new things.
