The creators have lost th whole theme of the Sims which is to create you own family tree.
I cannot believe all you get to do is fulfill wants and aspirations. I get bored doing this. I mean the best part of the Sims was that you created your own family from birth-death. Instead the computer generates you a supposed family tree-they are so ugly. A load of crap. [...]Funny how they failed to mention that all the original aspects of the Sims has been removed in SIMS2 playstation. You'll have more fun buying the SIMS2 on PC not PS2. Serious. I don't play computer games often- but with the Sims I thought it was worth my time-now I have lost interest- I feel cheated- so will you if you buy on PS2.

PS2 version only a shadow of the PC version

As a true Maxis fan, I was disappointed to say the least when I eventually discovered the PS2 version of "The Sims 2" was nothing like the one played on the PC. There are 3 big reasons why I regret purchasing this game:

- You cannot become pregnant or adopt.
- There are no Genetics, Family trees, etc.
- There is no aging

The whole point of "The Sims 2" was to develop GENERATIONS of sims and take each sim from a child up to a senior citizen. In this games defense, I will say it did provide hours of entertainment.

Honestly, The sims series just is not meant for a console like PS2. The sims series is a PC game, and when transferred to a console you lose so much of what makes the game great.

I love almost every game Maxis has ever created, even my least favorite Maxis' games are ranked above some of the more popular PC games.

A rare miss for Maxis.

I had the oppurtunity to have my way with the Sims 2 with PS2 somewhat recently... it was an experience i would like to remember as good, but i cant, because it wasnt, it was a very lame experience. There are SOME highlights to the games (such as a new innovative way to control your sims using the controller and better graphics) but I had a very negative experience playing this..

- When in 2 player mode, if someone decided to, i dont know, talk to me while im in the middle of something my person would drop everything without my consent and talk to them... whats worse is i had NO control how long i would be in talking modes and the other person COMPLETELY controlled everything that happened, this was unfortunate because i would like to have been involved.

- Beginning the game you start out with 2 people, and if you dont like that, you have to generate someone until they look CLOSE to the way you want your sim to look. I am a very picky sims-maker, and the customization in this game was WORSE than previous ps2 titled. (for example: bustin' out was LEAPS ahead of this one in its SIM creation beginning) I literally sat there for 10 minutes regenerating my sims till they looked "ok"... and the customization options were very slim pickings.

I was very excited to play this game, am a huge SIMS fan, have all of them nearly, but this was certainly a let down and i feel EA should repay me... for 1: the game, and 2: my time...
I DO NOT suggest this game, and I feel EA should recall them and REDO this game because it is such bull compared to all the others for pc and gaming consoles.

The best god sim ever (on PS2 of course) -part. 1-

Mark my words: THIS- GAME- ROCKS! I don't understand why reviewers slap this awesome game in the face with about a million (okay... 16 so far) bogus reviews. There is so much to thins game that I love. The Create-A-Sim mode returns in full effect. With eye-wateringly shallow options for The Urbz (refered in this review as *cough*theurbz*cough*), terrible options for Sims 1 (The PS2 version) and a crappy engine that made EVER SINGLE SIM look so sad they might be thinking about ending their lives even before entering the house. Dude. Thankfully, it all goes better in The Sims 2. Stick with me and I will take you through the game's modes, features and everything else. Let's get started.

Graphical quality and sound (Fancy speak for graphics ans sound):

Graphics
Who couldn't remember the simple and repetitive environment on Sims 1, The one-dimensional walls-with-some-doors-and-windows of Bustin Out and the 'gritty', 'urban' and 'cool' setting of *cough*theurbz*cough*. This game featured full on buildings with 15 floors and 16 rooms on each floor complete with 40 HD TVs and... okay, if you're looking for the truth then get this: TS2's houses do NOT look like actual buildings but more like Monica and Chandler's apartment from 'Friends' turned into a building. THe wallpaper options are shallow, the floors are -uhm, what's the word again... oh yes- crap and the items all feel a bit one dimensional to me. But hey, the real fun is createasim which rock now to the sound. I've got some serius smashing to do... MWhahahahahhahahahahhaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!

Sound:
How is the sound of a typical Sims game? Great music, great effects and nonsense voices. TS2 has all of this escept for the fist one. Let's face it: The Sims 2 has horrible, horrible, horrible music. With the possible exception of the main menu/opening song, the in-game music ism terrible. Now to the voices. You know The Sims always had complete nonsense for voices. This is even worse. Get this. You click on the 'compliment'social move and if you are playing as a woman, you will hear this: "Whizza, oodikass, scarro, thancslot." If you are a male, this is what you get: "Loiru, garo, bobobo." Sucks, eh? What about 'tell joke? Instead of humourus sounds like in *cough*theurbz*cough* there is just mumbling like this: "mbhmbmbnmbmhmhmhmhmhmhmhnhnhnhnhuhuhuhuhumumumunununun". What great voice quality. At least it's not as bad as
*cough*theurbz*cough*.

Controlling element of console entertainment disc (Gameplay):

Direct control, huh? Ingredient selection system? What haven't they changed? The gameplay is very different to the other instalments... heck with all that. You really want to know about two sims in bed engegint the physical act of love (So I watch "Friends" and I am a 12 year old boy. Big deal), right? It goes like this:

How to do WooHoo in 8 easy steps:

1. Walk into the bedroom.

2. Select the double bed and select relax.

3. Select Call Over... and call over a crush or a lover.

4. When the item of your, ahem, 'nterest' has entered the 'area' that the 'event' will take place, follow these steps.

5. Select cuddle, just to keep them in bed for longer. Works every time.

6. Select WooHoo.

7. Watch the bed shake and the controller vibrates. Note the music in the backround.

8. CONGRATULATIONS: You have just done WooHoo. Now watch the effects it does to your sims. Look closely... nothing has changed. Oh well. At leats your controller gets a workout from all that vibration.

Another cool but useless extra is getting married. It can be done with every... single... sim... in... the... game... Here it is... explained in a 8 step form.

1. Socialize a lot with one person until you have a lover relationship.

2. Enter socialize mode.

3. Select purpose.

4. The sims hug.

5. Loading...

6. The sims pop up in a dress/tux.

7. The sims pose.

8. Congratualations. You are now married. What next?

Since time is running so fast, I have to quit now. Part. 2 will be posted later.

As someone who recently purchased the Sims 2 on Amazon, and has played it and some of the older PC and console versions, I have to say I think this game is pretty darn good. I recognize that in comparison to Sims 2 for PC, it has some limitations- but what else could you expect? Consoles ARE limited, but considering the game was originally designed for a completely different medium, I think it is very successful it its own right, and frankly, a lot of fun to play.

The game playing is far more textured and rich than "Bustin' Out" or "The Urbz". First of all, the creation of a greater motivating force, whether creative, social, etc., adds a whole new dimension to Sims and their relationships. Whereas in the past, a series of actions always created the same result, now players will find that their Sims, no matter how 'correctly' guided, will be rejected by loved ones, paint horrible portraits, or make inedible meals that make other Sims grumpy. Conversely, you may find your Sim succeeding easily or becoming popular with hardly any effort. Such is the nature of Sims 2.

I have never been a Sims player that found the fashion, decorating, or building aspects of the game to be tantamount to goal-achieving, but the new game has more objects with lots of different interactions, a clothes option menu that is sure to absorb hours of your attention, and plenty of new building options. I could see how building houses or changing clothes endlessly would lead to some repeats, but achieving success for your Sim will definitely prove interesting enough to make up for it.

I think, overall, this game is worth the price tag. Diehard Simmers who scrutinize every aspect of the game, and compare it to the PC version, are bound to be a little disappointed. But as someone who eagerly anticipated the arrival of the Sims 2 for Ps2 (meaning, was on the waiting list for a month!), I can say with total enthusiasm that this is a game you, your kids, or your spouse will enjoy, in many different ways. Don't be discouraged by the naysayers- it's a worthy investment and is sure to provide hours of that god-like creative control we Simmers love!

What time is it now?

HelloThis review is limited by the fact that I have Only 2 other SIMS console games (Bustin out & Urbz)...(on GC) to compare it too.Always best to rent first, right! So now im kicking my own a$$ and thinking (hopeing) it will get better.-The sims look like a meld of bustin out/urbs leaning heavily to the urbz but not as pretty.-Create a sim..ahh yeah ok, Choose from a male or female (adult sims only) and spend time while the game tosses some random sims at you with pics of their parents and grand parents at you. THAT IS THE DNA part! oooooh!! -Once U chose it then You can edit the sims body face and color, chest hair or no chest hair (male) -You can alter features by way of a sliding button. then a morph face and body (Slob or urbi stud). I find these slides not as nice to use as the simsBO version as it seemed to provide more variety.-In sims bustin out i had a sim that looked laura ingales character, carol burnett (almost) and one that looked like the lead character darien from the series InvisibleMan... and some that resembled other actors or friends and so on, as you could choose the features in a FASTer per feature manner. all i get in Sims 2 are morphy Urbites. -Yes These sims2 for ps2 look like Urbies, urbie hair and not a great range in color choice in hair or clothes.I was hoping that there would be improvements in the SBO...Um what is that? SBO it had more hair color choices. It is Like EA has treated gamers like Mushrooms... Hee hee "Here U go ITS GOING TO BE GREAT OPEN WIDE!, is 3-6 colors good enough?.. NO , TOUGH! eat em!So you know how to grow mushrooms?! Right! THEY KEEP THEN IN THE DARK AND FEED THEM.....SSSssss.hhmm Isnt it a fact that gamers pay money to be told what to do by the items they have purchased. NOW that IS FUN U bet.SORRY, oops , its just that i hate looking at a house my character cant walk to next door, a beach that my sim cant even dip her toe in. Best bet is DONT get you hopes up, that way you will be tinkeled pink by the big save diamond. or the few choices you get...Dance for joy at the absence of the childrens voices and watching them stomp their sandcastles as they did in SBO So you wont have to cry for the sim baby that was hauled off the social workersim because you let babe cry a river.-You want an alien? You got it, you just make it. give your sim green skin.-AS for The clothing is selected by Under shirt, shirt, jacket, pants skirts shoes.Clothing.. AHHHHHHH!!!! Jus makem as nekked as you can or pick the 1st thing off the rack or better take what the cpu gives themm.... or if you have TIME check out all the...-YES tatoos, mostly the same odd darksh urbi kind.-jewelry with a few color choices,, uhm thats 2 choices on average. -Clother are sharper looking but NOT as varied as SBO?. -Clothes that look urbie but not as nice as the urbz clothes save for a few.Your COLOR choices range from 2-6 may t some a few more.. OOOOOH!-Now you can change the legnth on some items like skirts pants and sleaves, and choose between 2 collar styles on some. The shoes look like what my cat Ralphed on my bed compared to the bustin out shoes and the urbz fancyfoot wear.-Yes you can layer the tops and such...ah that makes u for everything....I made the mistake of clicking on a wardrobe and it took me to the same clothing choice area... OH GOOD LORD NO,,, so i opted not to change her clothes and it took 20 seconds in the load time after it saved and returned me to the room. -All this is not quite as slow and lumbarpuncture painfull as Urbz but SADLY not nice and quick like SBO.Load times and save times..... (make a pee stop and do your taxes?)So it takes more time to choose from less to dress your limited simi.. OH this was a let down for me but may be a Great thing for you.-You can choose your sims Zodi sign and if they are tidy or messy and so on (as in SbO) but when you play and have them read a book, when done my sim just thows the book on the floor rather than putting it back as they did in SBO.I find this a was of time to have to tell them to pick up a book. The interactions menu kinda like urbz as in how they are listed in bars at the side and not as easy to read compared to... yes SBO.I was looking to buy a drain so there would not be puddles everywhere after dishwashing and showers but it was not on the list... CRAP! spend/waste more time pond moping! You can choose from food that is in your fridge and make/cook some food but as usual you have to buy the fridge and then the items....you start off in story mode at a house with a fridge but you have no $ so then you figure out what to do he he he "hey bob what you making?"It takes MUCH MORE time to get somthing done .. so if you dont mind paying someone like EA to waste some more of you time and tell you what to do,, then HEY Why Not!I will play it more and tap my ruby slippers together and say.... "I only payed $44CAD plus tax and there is no place like......" :-)

Not the Sims 2

I do not like this game at all. The graphics are awful. I even like the first Sims for the Playstation than this one. I feel I was ripped off paying $50.00 for this farce. I have the Sims 2 for the PC and all the expansion packs and I love that game. I feel like I'm getting somewhere on that one. You can't shut the aging off so don't know if on this game they age or not. Don't know if the they even have kids and if they age or not. Also they work 7 days a week just like in the first one. I don't recommend anyone buying this one. I wouldn't buy any of the other ones they have either because if they are anything like this one it's just a rip off.
When I went to make people I didn't get many choices on anything and the people looked and walked just like they did on the first one. They should never have called this one Sims 2 because it sure isn't.

Why only 3 stars?

I'm unsure why this game received only a 3-star average rating. If you know anything about Sims games for video game systems, you'd know that the majority of them are not completely like the original PC version. If you buy this game, you must know that no, this isn't exactly like the original BUT it's still fun nonetheless.

So what's to like about this game? First, I prefer to play with another person because it can get hard having to control multiple people. Each character has their own goals (some are hard and some are easy). You must achieve these goals while maintaining a job (preferably) and keeping your stats up high. It can get difficult but that's what I love about it. While one character is trying to keep his hunger level up, I can switch to another character and achieve her goal of painting a quality picture. There's a ton to do to keep you busy. Eventually, you get your gold goals that, once completed, unlock another location. The different places you can live in are so cool (from an ordinary house, to a hotel, to an artist's museum). You can even live on a boat once you complete a few rounds of the game!

Second, when you go to each new location, you get to hear a story about what's going on with the people who live there and what their ultimate goals involve. Each location has different goals and a cast of wacky chracters which makes for a non-repetitive game.

Third, it doesn't get old. Yes, once you beat the entire game, you may not want to replay the whole thing over again. However, after you achieve your gold goals, you can still play at certain locations and the goals keep on coming.

What's not to like? Those who want this to be exactly like the original game will be disappointed. No, you can't have children. No, you don't have complete control in Free Play mode. However, the achieving goals part of the game is fun and addictive.

Be sure to TRY this game before completely writing it off as a bad one. You may enjoy it! It's one of my favorite PS2 games.

Who would have thought a non-violent game with zero weapons could provide hours and hours of addictive fun?! Well, this is the one! Graphics are MUCH improved over the first ps2 Sims game (though I highly recommend that one also, for starters). Overall tremendous fun for your buck! Uses lotsa memory, as do all the ps2 Sims games, so make sure to have a dedicated memory card for it. I think comparing it to the PC version is pointless, since it is a totally different platform. PC version may be all that, but I personally don't like clogging up my PC with games. PS2 Sims 2 is an excellent game in its own right, and will not dissapoint anyone who loves the ps2 Sims line of games. Enjoy!

I bought this game 3 days ago. I have to admit that it's addictive and amusing.. but when I found out that you're not able to have children, I freaked. Creating and raising families was the main reason I bought this game.

The PC version is absolutly incredible, but since my computer does not meet the system requirements, I can only play it when I visit my friend.

Really, I have no intention of playing the console version anymore, I'm ready to take it back. I'm completely dissatisfied.
