If You've ever wondered about a script for DS9, This is the thing to get, it has scripts, Promo Videos and pictures, and even has some cut scenes in the scripts (not videos however :( )

Good database for Trek's "middle child"

I always felt that DS9 suffered from the "Jan Brady/Rodney Dangerfield" syndrome: that is, the show didn't get the respect from the fans that is so richly deserved. While praise was heaped upon "Next Generation" and "Voyager," it just appeared that DS9 was not given its props.

As one of its most stalwart supporters, I strongly recommend this episode guide for its attention to detail. Contrary to the other reviewer, I had no trouble accessing all the information contained on the disc. The information helps me to learn about favorite eps and refresh my memory of all the intricacies involved in the production of this excellent show.

This is one "companion" that I am glad that I "met."

For those of you who want to read all the DS9 scripts

Only on this CD are all the 176 scripts to all the episodes. There are a few photos and production notes but you don't have to search the web for them anymore. They are all here. Will they ever produce a version for Voyager?

THIS IS LIKE A CD-ROM OF THE DS9 SECTION OF THE STAR TREK CONTINUUM

The Best Trek CD Ever!

This is the best companion I have ever seen. This CD has it all, scripts, episode summaries and cast and character info. The absolute coolest thing on here is that each episode also has the video trailer that you can actually watch and see the real TV trailers! Excellent! I HIGHLY recommend this!

A useful reference guide

I found this guide to be very helpful by providing a fully-searchable set of the episode scripts. It sounds like wcaver was using the feature search (which is somewhat less than useful), rather than the full text search (which finds every instance of a word in all of the scripts).

However, it isn't perfect. For one thing, if you click on any word in the script or synopsis, it does a text search for that word. For someone who is used to clicking in a window to bring the focus there, this is very distracting. For another thing, the guest star information is incomplete; only the "primary" guest stars are listed, and the actors who played minor roles are not listed.

Still, for the price this is a very handy product.

If you are a DS9 fan, you must own this rare gem!

The main reason to get this DS9 companion is due to the fact that it has every complete DS9 shooting script on one convenient CD-Rom disc. The core of DS9's success lay in its excellent writing, and creative character development of its principal players: Sisko, Worf, O'Brien, Kira, Jadzia, Odo, Quark, Bashir, Garak, and countless others throughout the series' 7 seasons.

This truly is a diamond in the rough, and a worthy collector's item to diehard Niners out there!

Very disappointing - and the search engine is worthless!

I'm a serious fan of DS9, and I also write fiction about the show, so I had high hopes for a database containing all the scripts combined with a way to fully search the files for references to specific words (such as all the times the Orbs were mentioned). Instead, I was extremely annoyed to find the word-search function only shows the FIRST use of a word in a script, and it even sometimes IGNORES uses of a word. For example, the word-search function could not find the word "Maquis" anywhere in the episode "The Maquis, Part I" ! Having all the scripts to read is nice -- and is the only reason I gave it two stars. But the scripts are bulky to access, and it's all you really get. There are no encyclopedia entries, so I'm baffled by the earlier review's comparison to other Star Trek encyclopedae. The only videos that come with the companion are the "coming attractions" previews for each episode, which are useless for reference purposes. What really ticked me off is Simon and Schuster advertises the DS9 companion as "fully searchable." When I complained, a Simon and Schuster tech-support rep told me I was using the program correctly, but apparently the advertising department's definition of "fully searchable" was different than mine! So buy this if you really want to read all the scripts on your computer. Otherwise, don't waste your time.
