What a shame!

MLB Triple Play 2002 was quite a disappointment from my standpoint. Basically, the graphics are very poor and the player's faces don't look anything like players. For example, Luis Gonzalez (the player one the cover) is missing his facial hair. It's not that different than Triple Play 2001, only updated rosters and added stadiums for teams who changed. When I compared the two games, the stadiums in Triple Play 2001 looked a lot better than the ones in the 2002 version.

Triple Play 2002 also skimped on the pitches for individual players. They gave a fastball and a change-up to every pitcher (whether they really throw it or not) and added some other pitches that did not match pitching styles i.e. giving a curve ball to Armando Benitez instead of a splitter, etc.

Another weak aspect of this game is the lack of game modes. They have all the same things as Triple Play 2001, exhibition, season, playoffs, and homerun derby. Yawn.

I suggest you don't buy this baseball game. I perfer Major League Baseball High Heat 2002. The graphics are beautiful and the gameplay is so well developed that sometimes I think I'm in the stands watching the game! Also, the player's faces match the ones in real life (which is nice to know considering Triple Play 2002 didn't get anything right.) Buy Major League Baseball High Heat 2002, it's a 50 dollar payment very well spent. Check out this game at Amazon reviews to find out more about it. I guarntee, you will not regret getting this game over Triple Play 2002!

I just don't know how the people can say: "Triple Play is a bored game" or "Triple Play it's a bad game, i think MLB or All-Star Baseball it's more good". I think that people don't know absolutly nothing about videogames, so please SHUT UP, if you gonna mean Triple Play it's a Bad game or a bored game.

What went wrong?

I played a demo of this game and it's worthless. It's so hard to put the bat on the ball even on the easy mode. The pitches just wiz by, you have to swing and guess it will be a strike (it's that hard to tell). Pitching isn't any easier and it takes a long time to throw the pitch you want. This makes games seem much longer, almost like the length they are in the Major Leagues. It just takes away from the fun of it. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to wait until Triple Play 2003 comes out to see if it got any better.

Triple Play for PS2 is good but could be better its kind of like Griffey's baseball i would like to know if and when the new one is coming out. I think that the game could be better and you should make it like bases loaded for nintento players should be able to charge the mound. The graffix are good but it could be a lot better that circle thing in the middle is not triple play baseball i been buying these games for PS1 and they never had that hitting icon. Thank you for your time

No fun or enjoyability

Ugh... I played this game at All-Star Fan Fest in Seattle. I thought this game would be easy to play and fun knowing that EA Sports is the best sports game company. But, to my surprise, it fell short, way too short. Pitches are impossible to hit, I could have faced Rick Ankiel and he'd have 15 strike out and I'd only get 3 hits off of him, even in easy mode. Pitching and fielding isn't any easier. You have to go threw a long process to select the pitch and there are little squares you have to pitch to instead of picking the exact location you want. Terrible idea. When you field, it isn't to easy to track down the ball causing a lot of errors and infield singles. Even when you do field the ball properly it is still a time-driven hassle to throw the ball to the correct place.

All in all, poor gaming design by EA Sports. I personally think Triple Play 2001, last years version, is much better. If you really like baseball, I would suggest purchasing a better title such as High Heat Baseball 2003.

I can't agree more, with the other ratings I have read. I too find the game very hard to play in all aspects. Who would think
EA Sports would make something like this, after all the good sports games they have put out. In other words, who would have
thunk it...

i would rather play regular baseball for nintendo. I have been a triple play fan ever since it has started. I find it impossible to field the ball in turf stadiums and i couldn't hit the ball with one of those big red wiffle ball bats i had when i was a kid. I'll buy tp03 but EA Sports better get there stuff together and make a better game. Alot better game.

TRIPLE PLAY BASEBALL IS ONE OF THE MUST OWN BASEBALL GAMES! I LIKE HOW THEY HELD BACK A YEAR AND NAMED THIS YEAR 2002. IT JUST GOT TO DAMN ANNOYING LISTENING TO PEOPLE NAMING THEIR GAMES A YEAR AHEAD OF ITS TIME! THE GRAPHICS ARE VERY GOOD, THEY DON'T STAND UP AGAINST POWER HOUSES LIKE GT3 OR MGS2, BUT THEY ARE STELLAR. THE GAME PLAY IS GREAT IT JUST GETTING WRAPPED UP IN A 162 GAME SEASON IS ENOUGH TO GET ME TO BUY THIS GAME, BUT YOU CAN ALSO MATCH UP WITH A FRIEND AND SLUG IT OUT IN A GAME OF HOMERUN DERBY. ALSO ANOTHER THING THAT ANNOYS ME WITH OTHER TITLES IS THAT THEY NEVER SEEM TO KEEP THE ROSTERS CURRENT. TP2002 ALWAYS SEEMS TO BE RIGHT ON TOP OF THE ROSTER ISSUE. EVERYBODY IS INCLUDED. THE SOUND IN THE GAME IS ABOUT AVERAGE AND I LOVE HOW THEY GOT BOB COSTAS AND HEROLD REYNOLDS TO TAKE OVER THE COMMENTARY. IT WAS ABOUT TIME THAT THEY GOT RID OF THOSE OVER USED JIM HUGHSON AND BUCK MARTINEZ. IT SEEMS LIKE THEY SAID THE SAME THING IN TP99-2001. THIS WAS A MUCH NEEDED IMPROVMENT FOR THE SERIES. WELL IF YOU ARE NOT SURE WHICH OF THE BASEBALL GAMES TO GET THIS YEAR, TAKE IT FROM A BIG BASEBALL FAN AND PLAYER, THIS IS DEFINATLY THE GAME TO SPEND...WELL EARNED [MONEY] ON!

Great graphics but the game play is a little hard to get used to. The movement of the players is fluid but controlling them within the field is not necessarily so. Rockin' soundtrack, though.
