Great game some frustration

I bought the original RON game without the expansion and loved it. I have been thinking about getting the expansion since the original was so much fun. The expansion is great but there are a few things that I dont like. When you go into some of the preset conquer the world scenarios, like being France for instance, it shows that you can attack several different countries when in fact, it forces you to attack the ones it wants you to attack. One of things that makes the game excellent and continually fun is the fact that the replayabilit of the game is one of the best I have seen. You cant do that with some of the prearranged scenarios.

Overall, I give the game the following:

game play: 5 stars
graphics: 4.5 stars
scenarios: 4 stars
sounds/music: 4.5 stars
overall: 4.5 stars

Great game. Fun for all.

Best Strategy Game in quite a while

This game is addictive and can really change with one's selection of nation and what game level one would like to play. The graphics are super and the game play responsive. A great LAN party game, as players can compete with either the computer or other players on the network. Beats Civilization for game play and not as "goary" as some conflict games (such as Wolfenstein).

Great game - great price one of the best RTS games

If your into the strategy genre, you'll probably like this game. It's pretty interesting and the gameplay is fairly designed to make you really start to think. There are many nations to chose from, such as the British, Americans, Germans, Iriquios, Indians, Egyptians, Perians, Romans, Aztecs, etc. Each is very different with its own benefits and units. You'll find this game very addicting for the first few months you have it.

There are a few downsides to this game though. For one, the replayability of this game is very low. Once you've played it for a while, you'll start to find it boring. Most of the battles are all the same and get dull. Another thing I found really annoying is that there are only seven ages that range from the Ancient Age to the present. I would have liked it if there were some futuristic ages included. Also, the ages change unreasonably fast then stop once you hit the present.

On a more positive note, this game does have 5 pretty good campains. Here they are:

Alexander the Great:(6/10) Puts you in controll of the Greeks under Alexander the Great as you try to take over the known world from mainly the Persians (and i guess the Romans, Egyptians, and Indians, too, but they controll about two territories each) This campain also offers some interesting historical battles and generals, though overall is a little boring because you mainly fight only the Persians

Napolean:(8/10) You are in control of a French army as you attenpt to take over Europe and become emperor. Great historical battles and gameplay as you take on several Nations in Europe. Trading and gaining colonies is also a great feature

New World:(7/10) Play as a european nation (British, French, Spanish, Dutch, ect) or Native Tribe (Aztecs, Incas, Iriquios, Lakota) or the Americans. Basically you just try to take over more land than anyone else. Battles are fairly dull whne fighting other nations but pretty good when taking on barbarian tribes.

Cold War:(9/10) Definately the best of all campains. Be the Americans or Soviets and contol your allies as you attempt to gain client states all over the globe. Buy nukes, take part in great espionage missions, and perform police actions. Win by either economic victory or by blowing the snot out of your enemy with your nukes.

Conquer the World:(3/10) Play as any nation and try to dominate a risk-board world. Ranges through all ages which advance so fast its annoying. All battles are exactly the same and you'll wind up doing the same thing over and over again.

If you want to buy this game, I'd recomend you only buy it if its under $25. If its any higher, save your money for something better.

Must Get!

Allot of fun, works for all age groups - my 11 year old LOVES it and fights with my 22 year old who doesn't want to let him play - SHE wants to play. I would much rather my children play these type of games - makes them "think" and plan rather than just the gory, bloody style of many other games

Not a patch on Civ3

I bought this game because of the good reviews it got but i have to say i was disappointed with the overall game. At first i liked the game. it was very different to other strategy games i've played and enjoyable to play at first. the major problem i found is that every single 90 minute battle you fight against another nation is pretty much the exact same. the game becomes very boring very quickly. i can't understand how people can give this game 5 stars. there is very little variety and you can't get any long term enjoyment out of the game.

worth the money

well worth the money. yea some of the battle get repeative but that is the same in every game out there. the graphics and game play make it well worth it. It's one of the games that actually stay on my pc desk and not on the rack.

Fun, but lacking some features.

This game is great, really. However, it always feels a little like a setpiece battle because everyone is researching the exact same technologies at the exact same time, just trying to get slightly ahead of the next guy. It would have been nice if there had been a technology tree instead of a technology calendar. Still, I love playing this game, especially on the easiest level, because you can win every time. Nukes are especially entertaining. The manual could use some work explaining things - I hate learning games from pop-up instructions in the game itself.

Still, overall, it's pretty entertaining. Just don't expect it to be too brainy.
