An improvement

Well, this game is an improvement from fs2002, but I would have liked to see more improvements made in more important areas. I'll give you the easy look at the pros and cons of this game.

PROS
1. You can finally use more than one runway with ATC.
2. Finnally, there are signs on the runways and taxiways.
3. The gps system is 100 times better than in 2002.
4. The weather effects are much better, and realistic.
5. The scenery and terrain including the airports are 100 times better and look way more realistic.

CONS
1. No new planes, except for a bunch of old planes that nobody wants to fly and can barely make it off the ground for more than a few mins.
2. Still no crash effects when your plane crashes. It just freezes at the point of the crash!!
3. Still no gates, refueling trucks, baggage trucks, or anything of the sort at the terminals.
4. The worst thing about this game is that its WAY to taxing on the system. Flying in major airports can end up looking like a slide show the frames move so slow. And I have a very efficient system.

Overall, Id suggest to everyone to get this game. But dont expect to be awed by it because its basically the same thing as 2002 with a few minor changes. But its still better than 2002.

Plane fies. Software crashes.

I have tried FS2004 on three different computers, and it crashes frequently on all three. Crashes least often on my notebook, and cannot complete 30% of short airport-to-airport flights on the two desktops, using planes that come standard on a flight specified in the training program. All my drivers are current, nVidia and ATI Radeon and S3 graphics cards under Windows 2000. Notebook with older Microsoft joystick crashes less often than P4 3GHz desktop with CH Products yoke and pedals. Microsoft has suspiciously NO hits for FS2004 software crashes in the knowledge base. I've been a professional programmer for several years. Perhaps kids are accustomed to software crashes in games. I'm trying to learn to fly, and this product was an exceptional disappointment.

Superb improvement

I'd just like to address a few of the incorrect things "A gamer from Miami FL" states. Among other things, he says:

> 1. No new planes, except for a bunch of old planes that nobody wants to fly and can barely make it off the ground for more than a few mins.

Incorrect. There are many new planes. And aircraft such as the Vega and the DC-3 are hardly "planes that can barely make it off the ground" that nobody wants to fly. Ask pilots what their favorite plane is and many will tell you the DC-3.

Gamer should note this program is called "A Century of Flight." It's a historical hommage to the great planes of the last 100 years. It's not called "Flight Simulator 2004: Cooler, Faster, Meaner Planes." There are other games for that.

> 2. Still no crash effects when your plane crashes. It just freezes at the point of the crash!!

That's intentional. Microsoft doesn't want you playing "Con Air." Real simultors don't show fireballs when planes crash either. It's a flight simulator, not a crash simulator.

> 3. Still no gates, refueling trucks, baggage trucks, or anything of the sort at the terminals.

Gamer should get a more poweful system that can generate these objects, or tweak the system he has. These things are there, as they were in the 2002 game.

> 4. The worst thing about this game is that its WAY to [sic] taxing on the system. Flying in major airports can end up looking like a slide show the frames move so slow. And I have a very efficient system.

Apparently he doesn't. Again, gamer should get a more powerful system, or tweak the one he has. He's not seeing anything close to the whole show.

In short, there are some problems with this program (missing bridges are among them), but all the "objections" Gamer has are the result of his own inadequate system, his poor piloting ability or his misunderstanding of the game.

I would really recommend this game, BUT I would buy Flight simulator 2002 because it has way more addons... take this from a 678 hour commercial airline pilot and an 8 year flightsim fan...

Get it if you are a pilot or aspiring pilot!

As an aspiring pilot I find Flight Simulator 2004 to be a great way to chill out after a hard day at work. The scenery is incredible, and it's hard to beat the realism. This isn't really a game, so if you're thinking about getting Flight Simulator 2004 and trying to beat the top score or save the princess, forget it. Sure, there is a learning curve just as there is with flying a real plane, but it's worth it if you're at all interested in flying. Tip - start with the Lear Jet, it is one of the easier planes to get the hang of. When you get tired of the planes and scenery that come with the simulator you can pick up more at sites like fs2004.com and avsim.com. All in all this "game" is highly worth the time and money if you're into flying, or would like to get into flying!

FS 2004 is the first flight simulator I've ever used, and what a great introduction to the genre!

I am not a pilot (though I do have aspirations), and the ground school and flying lessons included were more than enough information to get me off the ground. They're informative, easy, and fun! They do take some patience, though.

The amount of realism is unbelievable. While I may not be qualified to compare the "feel" of the simulated airplane to the real thing (see above), I can say that looking out the window at the scenery is incredibly satisfying. The ground textures are somewhat lacking, but the weather effects are incredible, and the modeling of major landmarks is VERY detailed. Fly over the Las Vegas strip, or buzz the Eiffel Tower, and you'll know what I'm talking about.

I bought this game shortly after it was released, and since then I've logged countless hours of enjoyable flight. I highly recommend this title.

Best game ever made

ok were do i start well i was looking for a good flight simulator game and i just could not find one but when i saw this game and read other peoples reviews i new that this was the one and i made the best choice of my life i mean i've been playing this game in 5-6 hour intervals every day and i got it about a month ago.The reason i love it so much because its so realistic (with a joystick) the clouds are so real looking and the cockpit is just awsome. So if you want to make the best choice of the century then get this game, also if you want to have even more fun then find a cheap joystick to go with it(logitech extreme 3D joystick recomended $29.99).

Easy to use, yet unbelievable realism from aircraft characteristics to weather.
The ATC really adds to the interest factor as well as the scenery and airport detail.
I would highly recommend this!

As a 50 year old guy who has spent his entire life fascinated with propeller aircraft, I have been overjoyed with this product. I'm not a gamer - I am just in love with the process of flying a real airplane. If you ever wanted to take flying lessons, but couldn't for one reason or another - do yourself a favor and buy this software. For $20 for the software, plus a $30 joystick, I guarantee you'll have the most fun you ever had with a computer. The sound effects, the scenery, the flexibility to fly out of any airport, at any time of day or night, in any weather you want - it's just astounding. You can make the flight experience as easy or as difficult as you want. I love just cruising around the Caribbean or flying through mountain passes in the Alps in a Cessna 172 - easy - slow - and realistic. If that doesn't do it for you, try your hand at landing a Boeing 747 in a stiff crosswind into Chicago in low visibility. This thing rocks!

The last flight simulator that I play was the FS98. I love flying, but this game just wasn't enough for me. I played some time, but didn't like it too much.

A few weeks ago I saw some screenshots of FSX and I decide to give it a try. I read the reviews and notice that you would need a high end machine to play it fine. But the 2004 seems nice to me and I add it to my cart. I must say that was one of the best things I have done in a while. This game is awesome.

This game runs ecellent on my Pc with everything on high (Athlon 64 X2 4200+ EE, 1GB RAM, EVGA 7600GT).

Now I'll tell you some greats things about this game.

Weather, the clouds looks soooo real. And the dynamic weather is a great improvement and it gives the game a lot of realism. The weather themes are very nice, light rain, heavy rain, storms, snows, thunderstorms. The weather took my breath away when I played the game for the first time.

ATC, it's feels like you have real people tracking you. They control your flight if you have a flight plan, if you don't have one, you can ask the ATC to keep track on you. You can hear ATC comunicating with other planes, giving clearances, warnings, etc.

In FS98 you were flying alone in the huge sky, now is more real. In your flight you can see a lot of planes. In the airpots I have to wait my turn for takeoff (because other planes are landing or in takeoff). I have Seen planes near the airports waiting for landing.

The planes are great for me. I love flying the boeing 777 and 747. And I have downloades a lot.

The sceneries are good, but I think they could be better. But that's something you can fix. I have downloaded a lot of sceneries. But when you are at a high altittude, the grafics are awesome. The beautiful blue sky with all these "real" clouds. And I love the scenery at nights. The airports are awesome at nights.

Don't even try to play this game without a joystick (I don't know how some people buy this game without one). I have a logitech extreme 3D. But I'm buying a better system now (because I'm going to play this Simulator a lot!)

If you love flying... I don't have to say anything else. And for the price, it's the best buy ever. You need to have this game. This game is not for everyone, some people may find it boring. But that's not my case.

I will be playing this one for a long while. FSX is not on my mind for now.
