Not Fun At All

This game is not very fun. It's okay, but what I hate the most is the new sanity meter. It dosnt show your needs seperatly, and when you have a need it goes down like crazy untill you fufill it but you don't know what you need untill it pops up over your head. The place is very small, not many places to go to, but a plus is the remixer where you can sample your voice into a song. There is not very much interactivity between people. You could make out with someone you just met, it's not realistic like the past sim games were. If you want a fun sims game, I'd suggest Sims Bustin Out for GBA or The Urbz for GBA or DS. This game was a waste of money.

most boring game ever.

this game is NOTHING like the sims 2 you can play on your computer. you're only one person and your stuck in the middle of nowhere with nothing to do. seriously, it's the worst game i have ever attempted to play. do not buy it unless you want to throw away twenty dollars, well, actually throwing away twenty dollars would even be more fun than this game. just don't buy it. get the computer version if your heart is set on the sims.

Slow and Boring

I've played the PC version of Sims, but I don't like that I have to choose everything for my Sims, so when you get missions here, I though that would be much better.

I think the story of the game goes that you crash your car in a town, so now you gotta run a hotel there. (?) Anyway, what you do is try to gather money to build new rooms and interact with the people in town. There aren't a lot of characters there, maybe 10 or so, and the interactions are limited. Basically what you do is match your interaction icon with the characters' animation. So if the guy is angry and points hit finger at you, you should "beg". And if he puts his hand up, you should yell at him. It's utterly boring, and you have to time the animations exactly. And it's not like they hurry up doing things so you can respond to them, I've had many characters stand 5-10 seconds doing nothing, so I had to keep the volume quite high so I would hear when they did something. Some animations are also hard to tell apart, like some woman with black hair has almost identical animations where you should either yell or beg her to stop, and if you pick the wrong one your sanity meter goes down.

Everybody in town, including you, has a sanity meter. When it reaches zero... you go insane. Not your character though it seems, and sometimes you just need to interact with some objects to fill it up. However, you need sanity quite high to deal with crazy people.

What I don't like about this game is that it has a clock that works with the clock in real life. So a minute in the game is a real-life minute. It's just awful having to wait 8 HOURS to get the ultra-slow Tristan to build you a room. I don't usually have a lot of time playing, and when I do play - I want to PLAY! Now I have to turn off the game and come back later... the reason I buy a game is to play it to pass time and have FUN! While you wait for the time to go by, you can't do a lot of things, you can't get new guests into rooms because you need to build them. You can't make money easily, picking up an object at some point and sell it or hope your paintings gets sold. It takes FOREVER. You basically run around and around until you get some kind of mission, that usually includes something lame like vacuuming the floors or finding a stolen telephone. The only thing I thought was kinda cute was the Sailor who kept locking himself in the freezer room calling me for help.

There are a lot of glitches and annoyances in this game, for example, you get a mission to exterminate rats. I went all over the whole hotel vacuuming them up (I don't know why you need to vacuum rats, but whatever...) and then there were no rats left, but I still didn't get "Mission Complete", so there had to be some left. I looked EVERYWHERE and I only had like 15 minutes to complete the mission. Then when I've walked around the whole house for the 17th time, then SUDDENLY out of nowhere comes rats where I've searched 8 times before. How are you supposed to do this mission if not all the rats are present until time is over?? This also happened when I was supposed to save the Sailorman from Aliens, I got rid of the Aliens, but he was nowhere to be seen and I failed the mission.
Other bugs include characters who are being captured by aliens still coming to the hotel to buy your paintings, not that I mind, but they aren't supposed to.

Also I wonder why you have your own room when you can just walk into a guest room and use their shower and toilet? I mean, the Sailorman practically wathed the girl I was playing "doing her business" and none of them seemed to care. That fancy suit guy also took a shower in front of her without being bothered. You can also walk into their room and eat from their refrigerator, I sold my own stuff and used the money to build more stuff in the hotel. The same goes for the romantic interactions, no matter how many guys I kiss, none of the other guys gets jealous, and you can't seem to fall in love with any of them either.

The pace of the game is just snore-slow, since you have to wait such a long time for things to happen, there's really not much to do. They could really have done a lot with the game, especially the stylus which you mostly use to pick options. Instead of having Tristan build your rooms, I wish you could build them yourself. Like hammer, putting up wallpaper, sewing curtains, building furniture... and more things to make money, like maybe singing into the microphone to get tips from guests?

Because of the real-time clock, you are forced to wait forever for the guests to leave the hotel, they need to stay DAYS, and that means REAL DAYS. So if I play the game on Tuesday, some guests won't leave on Thursday. Why would I want to play a game where I have to wait REAL DAYS to advance? Imagine playing Mario and he wouldn't be able to resque the princess until Friday, because a thwomp had fallen asleep on a bridge, and there's nothing you can do about it.
And if you cheat and change the time on the DS, Aliens take over town and your character can't move. Everybody hates her and she just walks so slow she takes minutes to get to another room. What were they thinking?

I don't have time to play games whenever I want to, sometimes I can't play for 12-24 hours, and that dosen't work with this game, because most missions are timed. And if the aliens take over town just because I don't have time playing, why bother?

WHAT A WASTE!

This game is not even close to the other games in the franchise. There is little customization and the only real way to make money is to play a stupid card game. All the other ways require you to wait a few days. Which brings me to my next point: the time system. This game uses the DS's real time for everything you do. If one of your customers is staying until Friday, you have to remember to play your DS on Friday. Otherwise, you don't get as much money. There are additional rooms you can add, but the only ones you need are the extra three bedrooms. All of the others let you make miniscule money by performing various jobs that require the skill of a 5-year old. Basically, this game is not worth the money you will spend. You are much better of if you spend 20 bucks on the PC version.

A game made up of horrible game ideas!

I like the Sims on Pc and purchased this thinking it'd be somewhat similar (made the same mistake as many reviewers here). I also bought URBZ and liked that game a lot.

I think whether you'll like this game or not depends on what kind of games you usually like playing. I hated this game. And the games i like so far are urbz, puzzle quest, lost in blue 2. The ones i don't like are definitely sims 2 and trauma center. I couldn't get into brain age either. it was too easy and not challenging - so what's the point? I haven't played that many DS games yet but if your likes and dislikes somewhat match with mine, then don't buy this game.

There are other reviews out there that tell the details, there are cheats and walkthroughs etc. so i am not going to go into detail.

The only thing i will say about the game is, although it is mission based, the missions are too easy. The only challenge comes from it being real-time. A mission takes longer than a day - well because it's real time - not because it's hard :)

Anyway, although i hated the game, i finished it. Just because of my amusement of how bad the game was. It felt like while developing all the other games, there were good and bad ideas. They used the good ideas and left the bad ones out. Then, there was a big pile of bad ideas and they thought "hmm, let's make a game out of these so they don't go to waste". Seriously there were too many bad game ideas that..i was just amused.

I should say though, it is a must-have for any game developer to see "what not to do in a game"

Good in concept.

This game has a lot of aspects that are enjoyable and when it was running it was fun to play. There are quite a few glitches in this game that cause it to freeze and when I tried to access the options menu it blacked the screen having to be reset. If you play this game save often, otherwise you spend most of you time doing the same missions over and over.

I bought this game because I really liked the Urbz but this was almost nothing like it. I don't know if there is an end to it but it takes forever to get new missions. I do not recommend this game.

Fun at first but freezes at the worst time, and just before you save after complete a chunck of the game, very annoying. DS sucks anyway. Get PSP.

what happened?

I bought this game expecting it to be somewhat like the sims on the computer. I guess I shouldn't assume. This game is a complete let down. To get skill points you have to find them randomly around the town which i feel is really stupid. then to increase your relationships, all you can do is a 3 choice thing based on the body language of the other character. I want to talk to the people. I want to do workout to get body skill points. If you are expecting something like the computer version, think twice before buying this game.
