a poor substitution for Jewel Quest

1 Rating: 1, Useful: 0 / 0

I bought this one on a whim because I do like Jewel Quest, but really, it's probably going to be traded for another game. It compares very poorly to Jewel Quest and I honestly don't see myself playing it.

My chief complaints are:

1) The different jewels are very hard to tell apart. Some of them are so slightly different that you have to squint at the screen and even guess at times. Mostly the pinks and oranges - the blues are distinguishable enough.

2) The sound. I had to turn the sound almost completely off and it was still irritating. When the jewels disappear and the remaining ones 'clack' down the speakers produce a sound like static that grates on my nerves. This, alone, would be enough to make me stop playing.

Otherwise, I do admit it plays smoothly and has some nice special features (like the fireball-thing) - there's nothing wrong with the idea of the game, but it also doesn't have anything that worthwhile to outweighs those two very, very, very large negatives.

Hard to put down

This game will definatly help improve your eyesight! You have to look for identical runes ( colored shapes ) put in groups of three's. There are several levels to compleet before you can move on. It is highly adictive if you are a puzzle junkie. The only draw back to the game is, if you use up all your extra lives the game doesn't save where you left off. You must start all over again. This can become very frustrating. I've almost compleeted the game twice and then wound up blowing it at the end. Over all, it's a fun brain teasing game.

Game is okay, but instruction booklet is necessary, which I like to be able to learn games on my own.

You gotta love the little guys

Besides loving the game, I love the graphics. You get involved with the little guys on the game and try to play better for their benefit, lol. It's a fun game, fast paced and another one you get lost in.

best option for those want bejeweled for ds

I've changed my mind; this is 5 stars; but I can't figure out to change this....

I've been looking for a Bejeweled-like game for DS, so I've been trying those recommended to others who've asked this same question.

7 Wonders is the closest by far (Jewel Quest and Puzzle League are not).

Succeeding screens are not square, so you have to think more to remove jewels (called "runes in this game) around the cut-out areas. Music is ok. Hints are given (little sparkles where a play is possible, but these are quite small on the ds).

There are "fireballs" and such, and they shoot out a horizontal row; another one takes out the vertical and horizontal row. There are "capstones" and "cornerstones" that appear, and you have to remove the runes below them so they fall out the bottom of the screen. These appear at random; it's not as though you have them to start out with and can plan strategy from the beginning of play. You get another life when you complete building what is at the level.

I haven't figured out why I get "hurry up" on the timing since I'm working quickly and very seldom have to spend time relying on a hint.

I haven't figured out whether there's an un-timed option. Does anyone know?

On my first cruise with it, I got up to the middle of the 3rd level. By that time, my eyes were bleary because of the size of the runes.

There's a little side story about guys building whatever it is and carrying picket signs when you don't get matches made quickly enough. There's a "conveyer belt" on the R side of the screen. As far as I can figure out, these are just for jollies.

Pros: (1) This has far fewer "auto-removes" and is more like Bejewled in this regard. (As opposed to Jewel Quest.) (2) Please "clicking" sound as runes drop. (3) It's a stylus game. (4) Music is not horrible.

Cons: (1) It's timed. There may be a way to turn off the timed feature, but I don't know. Hope there is. I'd rather until I get bored, rather than "die" and "get lives." (2) The jewels ("runes" in this game) are microscopic on the ds. I'm talking 2 mm. Quite a surprise if you've played the "real sized" one on your PC. (3) Also, it's difficult to tell pink and orange apart. (4) You can't save at the point where you failed. You have to go back to the beginning. (At this rate, I'll never even SEE what the art on the last level looks like!) Work-around: hit "start" and close unit. Keep it on the charger.

For those who've not played this game at all, you might want to try it out for free at iwin.com.

I bought my copy used at a local store ($18). The guy there said it had been discontinued but didn't know if that was because they were bringing out 2.0 or not. (I don't know whether he knew was he was talking about or not.)

Good fun and challenging

The 7 Wonders of the Ancient World is not only fun and challenging but I also enjoy reading the history of each Wonder as you complete each level and move on to the next. The only exasperating thing about the game is that when you lose your lives, you have to start completely over.

This is exactly the type of game I can play just about forever and not get bored with it. Frustrated, yes, but not bored. I've been able to complete the levels 3 times, but each time you complete all the levels and start over, the game gets progressively harder. Each of the 8 levels has 8 different sub-levels, or puzzles, progressing in difficulty. The trick is, with this game, that when you notice time is about to run out (the game will tell you to "hurry up"), you can press the start button which will pause your game and you can quit at that point. When you start play again, you'll be at the same sub-level. This way you don't lose a life; although invariably, you sometimes get caught up in the activity and don't realize the time is running out. You do get three lives, and lives are added at various points in the game, but the most I've ever had is 6, and managed to lose them all. It's a special skill to be that bad. I really do like this game though.

One of the best "Puzzle" games ever!!!

If you love "puzzle" games like Zuma, Luxor, Bejeweled, mah jong - you will love this game. I downloaded this game forever ago for free on my pc and played my free time in one sitting. VERY ADDICTIVE. You have to match tiles - 3 at a time - to clear them from the board breaking the blocks of the pyramid. Got it as the 2nd game for my DS and it is just as good if not better than the PC version.

Easy Game for kids and adults all ages!

Great game for all ages! Easy to learn, great for first time players too! This is an easy yet challenging game when you get to the upper levels, but not so difficult that a young child couldn't be successful! It's also the type of game where you can quit and then pick it up later and be able to play without any trouble.

What Fun!!!

This is such a fun game to play, once you start it is hard to put down. The music is entertaining and the different levels you can get to make this game so much fun. I highly recommend this game to any tile/puzzle lover!
