Wow. I almost didn't believe it when I heard this was coming out. While I have never played Chrono Trigger, I have played the life out of my SNES version of FFIV (FFII in the states).

FFIV is an almost direct conversion of the original game, with some new translations that make the game more mature, not to mention amusing. They have added some new features, such as Dark for Cecil (remember the paladin scene? You can now use that cool attack). Other than that, the game remains the same, with few other things.

Now for the downside(s).

The FMV intro for FFIV is above average for the industry, which is to say it's a pathetic effort by Square, especially considering the quality of their other works. The save feature of FFIV is very slow for saving to a memory card, which does make the memo save more useful than usual. Finally, the game seems a bit more unbalanced than it used to be, I'm not sure whether this is due to tweaking, or simply my memory fading in my advanced years.

Chrono Trigger: Accessing the menu screen is a 10 second affair, and that's all simply due to load times. While not seeming significant, it WILL wear on your nerves before long. The delay before battles is long as well, 2-3 seconds where you think the game has frozen.

All in all, they have annoying tendencies that could have been easily fixed, resulting in a release that feels very rushed. Does this mean you should not buy it? Not at all. That just means that these very good titles have a few bugs. Bear with them, and you will be richly rewarded.

Enjoy!

First, Final Fantasy 4 is the cornerstone for all of the Final Fantasy's after it. This was my first RPG on Super Nintendo, and I still have it. The story was involving the first time around, but the new translation makes this game all the more desirable. Chrono Trigger was also on the SNES, no new translation but the added cut scenes keeps CT as my all time favorite RPG. This Collection is a must have, even if you still have them on Super Nintendo!

Pretty Cool!

I Bought this for Chrono Trigger alone. FF4 is not all that great, but worth playing. Chrono Trigger is a freakin' awesome game. There is only a little loading problems when it loads the menu, or loads a battle, but not as bad as FF Anthology. Chrono Trigger also has a hell of alot of extras- you can only unlock Certain extras by getting certain endings=REPLAY VALUE +! The Cinemas are cool, but at only 30 FPS, its a little choppy. All in All- A RPG Gamers Dream Game!

man oh man....i was really looking forward to this beast before it came out. I was slightly disappointed with the package, but who can resist the powerhouse that is Chrono Trigger. To me, Final Fantasy IV is just an added bonus. So, lets get to the disappointment. Chrono Trigger is plagued with some of the most horrifying load time prior to battles and when accessing menus. However, in retrospect, the reason I didn't give a lower score, is because of the load time no one really notices in other RPGs. Such as the screen blur in the Final Fantasies. Besides, with such a great game like Chrono Trigger, i eventually was able to ignore the load time. If you already have both games on SNES, don't buy this package, the new CG and animation sequences are good....but not enough to get the sub-par Snes to PS transfer in FFC. But, if you don't already own either. GO BUY IT NOW, you won't be disappointed

The loading time in this game is ridiculous! unless you are obsessed with the chrono/final fantasy series Like I am, dont buy it. I busted out my friends SNES and played CT on that and the battles are so much faster loading then the psx version (and im playin it on my ps2). Just because its a CD based game doesnt mean there should be loading for a 16bit game!

Now for a review of these games (the PSX versions, no less)

Okay, I realize that most of the people here rated these games based on the old SNES cartridges, so I'm going to rate them on their PSX ports. A lot of people are going to raise hell when they see that I only gave the both of these immortal classics four stars. "He's insane!" they'll cry. Well, I have good reason.

I begin with my single negative reason - the games are slow. Chrono Trigger, which this happens to be my first time playing more than 20 minutes into, freezes totally before and after each battle, and before and after you enter your main menu. Why do we have these problems? I figure it's because the game is trying to load, and on CT, there are no flashes or fades to darkness before and after battle, so it just freezes so that it can load. I'm fine with this, the story and the extras make up for it totally. There is a movie theater function that will allow you to watch all the cinematic (you have to unlock them as you go), and there look to be 12 movies. Plus, the entire soundtrack is accessible on the disc! There are 69 songs. 12 of them are playable when you first put the disc in. You have to unlock the rest. I can't wait! Also, the opening cinematics seems to skip a lot for no real reason. Maybe it's just my PlayStation. In any case, some of the lagging should let up when I get my PS2.

As for Final Fantasy IV... well, it's Final Fantasy IV. I don't see any of the hard version features that were promised, but the translation is much better. I'll just have to wait until I'm further along, I suppose.

Anyhow, the set is worth the cost, despite some of the lag problems. I can't wait to get deeper into them. Once I have, I'll do a review of the full games here.

Buy this, Buy this now!

Unless you live under a rock, you probably know that getting your hands on a CT or FF4 cart are slim to none, unless your looking foreward to shelling out mucho dinero. Your probably thinking, "these games are outdated, and im too cheap to buy old games ...when i can download them on my computer", well, think again .... This dynamo duo comes complete with some great new cutscenes, which by the way the CT ones kick seriously. They dont ruin the game one bit, the show you a re-created anime cut scene, followed by the original cut scene the SNES cart offered. On top of that, these are the 2 best RPG's ever made. Don't wait to buy this one, look what happend to all the other square RPG's, You can't lay your hands on one unless you bought it the week they released. Buy the package, and maybe even the guide ... :) Happy Gaming.

I haven't bought the game yet, but...

As a video game veteran, FFIV and Chrono Trigger were breakthroughs in their time. The first time I played FFIV, then known as FFII, I was blown away by the dancers, explosions, spells, battle systems, story/plot line, characters, and overall game play. The haunt of the Calcobrena tune still chills my spine to this day... I knew from that point on that the Final Fantasy series was going to be awesome and to this day I HAVE NOT been disappointed. FFVII was the sole reason I bought Playstation.

As for Chrono Trigger, I was one of the few people on the side of the game play, since Non-linear RPGs were not highly accepted. I grew fond of Marle, Lucca, Schala, Magus, Frog, Robo, and Ayala...I'm not big on Crono himself something about the "Silent Protagonist" types. I thought the Double and Triple tech skills were very innovative, and the New Game+ was a great added feature. (nothing like whooping level one bosses with Luminaire and rainbow shell items :P)

So far Square Soft has only disappointed me once, with Saga Frontier, but I am sure this game will be great!!

Chrono Trigger and final fantasy II, some of the best RPGs that Squaresoft created for the Super Nes, of course the titles that gave Square the enough courage to get in the games industry again... remember Final Fantasy is the title, cause it was going to be the last title they will do as a Game Industry.

Chrono Trigger, a group of young heros start a new adventure traveling in time and recreating the history by stopping the worst evil creature time had faced, and only they could stop it... With over 10 different endings, this became a hit, one of the best video games ever in the story of SNES.

Final Fantasy II, not the best title I played, prefer Final 1 and Final 3 and Final 7 of course, but still for a RPG is one of the best games as the grandfather of RPGs...

Two Of The Greatest Games Of All Time...Ported To Playstation

Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy IV...I shouldn't have to say more than that. My son is named of one of the characters on FFIV, and it's one wonderful game. Chrono Trigger is always considered on the greatest RPGs of all time as well. Now, here's the problem, these games were created on the SNES console, not the Playstation console. While still fun, and very much playable, there is slow down, the screen doesn't adjust well (leaving large empty spaces on the sides/bottoms of the screen), and just feels out of place. If you want to play this games, which I advise you to, try the GBA version of FFIV, and the SNES Version of Chrono Trigger. If those are hard to find or too pricey then...this should fulfill your need for these games. FFIV has added features, and a re-translation. I own it...of course, but that's mainly because I have all of the previous installments "save FFIII" for the Playstation.
