Good Installment in the KR Series

KR: American Idol is very fun to play. Gameplay is pretty much the same as the prior installments. The competition mode where you get judged by Simon and Randy (and some Paula wannabe named "Laura") is very fun. Their comments make the game, plus it's funny when someone screws up a song and Simon lays into them. KR is still one of the best party games for PS2.

The best so far

Out of all of the Karaoke games this one is far the best, more of a compitition. You can actually get kicked out. Just like the show. The songs are ok. I would like to see a larger selection but overall it is the best!

This game is very fun to play with the family. The highlight is waiting to hear what the panel, especially Simon has to say after your performance.

Weird problem with blurry lyrics

Love the game so far, with its straight-from-the-show songs and a couple new backgrounds, and of course, the amusing judges, but I'm also actually having a pretty significant technical problem with the game. I suspect the game works just fine for 99% of the readers here, so people will just think I'm crazy. Sigh, oh well.

We were really surprised to discover that the Karaoke Revolution American Idol lyrics were unreadable as they scrolled to the left. I'm projecting from my PS2 via Sony component cable (the newer PS3/PS2 version) to a Benq PB6200 DLP projector. Everything else in the game looks about as crisp as I could expect, including the stationary text elements, but the scrolling text is basically impossible to read if you don't already have an idea what the lyrics are. There's really no way for me to learn any of the songs I don't already know. And a couple of friends have confirmed the same problem in my home, so it's not just my eyes. =]

I also decided to try to feed the signal into my 24" iMac. I didn't have any way to go from component to firewire, so I had to switch back to the PS2 composite video cable so I could play the live feed through an app called Vidi (which takes in video the same way iMovie accepts a firewire feed from a camcorder). To my shock, the same problem with the lyrics existed. Unreadable. I popped in Karaoke Revolution: Country Edition just to see if it was American Idol that was the problem. Same blurry lyrics. So I want to believe it's not the game (as I've seen it look just fine at other people's houses), but I honestly don't know how to correct the problem!

I'd love to hear about any solutions to overcome this problem! If nothing else, it certainly makes me appreciate SingStar's lyrics system (no motion)!

Wonderful for the nieces

I took this on a ski holiday to Big White so my 3 nieces could practice for Big White Idol. At least I could hear what a great reviewer said - as I only had mediocre reviews when I tried it.

It was the hit of the holiday - each night they were there in front of the TV with the PlayStation playing this fantastic production. The songs are varied.

I loved the Karaoke series that came before it - but this is tops. This is well engineered and a great product for practising Karaoke or starting on the quest to win a big Idol competition.

I can't begin to tell you how much fun this is. Both young and old had a ton of fun with it. We had a karaoke party recently with it and plan to have many more

I played this game while visiting my sister for the weekend and we loved it so much I came home and ordered one for my family. We have family fun night on Saturday evenings and this has been just that, FAMILY FUN. We invite my family, in-laws, and some friends over and have a GREAT time. I highly recommend this game for all ages since my nephew who is 9 has a blast and thinks he is a rock star while playing. GREAT FUN!!

Most kids can identify with AMerican Idol, so this game pretty much follows the format of the show including the judging process. The fun part is that you can create your character to be uniquely your own. Choice of song on this aren't the greatest, but all in all still a fun game for the family.

Had a blast playing this with my nephews.
Not enough songs that you know, though.
All in all a fun game to play with the whole family.
