I bought this game after comparing it to SingStar. I liked the songs on this game better and also am an Idol fan so this choice seemed better for me. The game is fun, song choices are diverse and very good. In Idol mode, you perform in an audition, get feedback and wait until you get yor tickets to Hollywood. You then can progress thru the series of eliminations - just like on the show. You also "Unlock" some songs, characters and apparel as you progress. There are also quickplay and one and two mc party modes. However, I am not sure whether it is a defect with the particular copy I have or a more global defect, but it is very difficult to select songs, your name, venue and a character as the cursor flies by so quickly it is difficult to highlight the desired selection. You can also select the level of judging criteria (easy, medium, hard, expert). Along with the words displayed, there are visual indications (bars with an arrow showing actual vs. target) on how high or low you should be singing which enable you to correct pitch problems. Overall, a lot of fun. You can use it with your EyeToy camera to see yourself on screen. I'm bringing my copy back and hoping the selection trouble is just with my particular copy.

It comes with a Microphone!

I know it looks corny, but it is great fun. With the game play angle it makes this game better than a Karaoke machine. The song selection is limited - but as you progress it "unlocks" new ones.
This would not satisfy a Karaoke enthusiast, but even a enthusiast would appreciate the fun factor of this great game.
Well done - looking forward to the next season...

Great game whether Idol fan or not! A lot of fun!

I just got this game and it is awesome. I'm here at work now waiting to get home so I can play it again. Me and My girlfriend love taking turns signing songs, but I guess here's the nitty-gritty...

PROS
1) Diverse and Decent song selection (she likes R&B and I like singing soft rock and both genres as well as others are represented)
2) Easy to pick up and play thanks to different judging levels and song lengths as well as practice levels.
3) Many different kinds of games...American Idol, Medley, Duets, Practice, Regular game, etc.
4) Create-a-character is pretty fun and simple
5) Comes with a microphone for just $10 more in the bundle. Good deal and the mic is decent quality, haven't had any issues with it at all.
6) Unlockable characters, videos, songs, clothing for your characters, etc.
7) Confidence builder! A lot of people are scared to sing especially in front of people, ESPECIALLY if getting judged; but after a few songs you start wanting to do it more. You feel more confident in yourself and that comes through in your singing in a short amount of time. For this reason alone you should try this game.
8) 2 Real American Idol judges...Simon and Randy. Both seem to be realistically duplicated. I am pleased with their judgements. Pretty accurate and, so far, not too corny.
9) TONS OF FUN
10) ESPECIALLY GOOD FOR A GROUP OF FRIENDS OR PARTY GAME, but is great for wanting to play a solo game, but not having to shoot people or do fatalities; but not exactly Barbie and Ponies either.
11) Great family fun. Appropriate songs for all ages. In this age where families don't do much together anymore, this can be a great way to get everybody together, singers & non-singer, gamers & non-gamers alike.
12) MORE? There is probably more but I am still pretty new with this game and look forward to playing for months, maybe years to come.

CONS
1) 40 Songs, while some of the other versions have 50 or downloadable songs. Haven't had a problem yet since they are diverse and mostly recognizable songs, that many people have probably sung in the car anyway. But I could see down the road possibly getting bored with some of them.
2) Create-a-player may be a little TOO easy and simple. Not nearly as good or accurate as EA GameFace(tm) or in most sports games, but it is good for this game.
3) Some people may not like singing or being too interactive with the game. It's rare for someone to give this type of game a chance and not enjoy it, but some people may rather just have a controller and blast aliens than have a microphone trying to impress the judges...
4) AMERICAN IDOL! My first drawback for the game (and reason I didn't want the game at all was that it was based on American Idol...a show I never watched and never wanted to. But in a game world, it actually adds to the authenticity and atmosphere and makes you care a little more about the outcome. However, a lot of people don't like American Idol or don't like the judges so in their case, this would be a problem. But I don't watch the show and I love it. If you make Simon say something nice, you feel really good about yourself the rest of the day (is that a sign of a lack of self-confidence or something?)
5) Lastly, there is no Paula! They have a duplicate named Laura. I mean you really don't know the difference but if you are going to take a game like Karaoke Revolution (a singing game) and add the American Idol logo to it (a singing competition) the least you should do is have the three judges, since there isn't many other differences. But Laura is pretty much the same as Paula with many of the same motions and body language so no big loss, but worth mentioning.

So there you have it. If you like to sing or WOULD like to sing this is for you. If you like music, this is for you. If you like American Idol, this is for you. If you like games that are more interactive, this is for you. Unless you despise American Idol, hate singing, or only care about 1st person shooters, you will get a lot of enjoyment out of this game.. So will your friend and family!

THIS IS GREAT! I LOVE THE WAY SIMON TELLS HOW IT IS. THEY REALLY DO JUDGE YOU. WE HAVE ALL THE KARAOKES, THIS IS A MUST HAVE FOR YOUR COLLECTION. SONGS ARE PRETTY GOOD TOO.

Challenging and fun

This game can be a real challenge to achieve perfection on the harder difficulties staying with the EXACT arrangement (note for note) of the demo, but it's a lot of fun. It's pretty addictive because each time you complete a song, you want to try to do better to get a better score and prove Simon wrong! If you know the songs, there is practically no learning curve. I could see it not only being a good party game, but also a nice practice tool for vocal students to challenge them on their pitch. I beat the game twice in a row on Expert, but it's still quite a challenge to improve your skills. The judges are a little brutal and sometimes contradict themselves, but it's kind of funny. My two cons: 1. I think there should be more songs availalbe, at least on download or something because going thru at 8 rounds a game you use up the 40 pretty quickly (and you have to unlock several of them first). 2. There's no Paula, just some generic Paula look-a-like. (Of course some people might think that's a pro...)

The character creator is fun, you can unlock clothes and other accessories and change them for the different rounds. Haven't had an opportunity to try the multiplayer yet (I just got the game last night) but it looks like it'd be a blast. You can play multiplayer with one mic (alternating performances before the elimination) or you can do a duet, but you'll need two mics (You can use Socom mics too). There is also a karaoke level. Overall, a pretty good game. I'm hooked! ;)

fun for the whole family

Finding time to spend with the family has never been so much fun. My Daughter, Husband, and myself are all terrible singers who love to think we can sing. Playing this is a real hoot. We all laughed so hard and had so much fun, it was like being on our favorite show, without the public humiliation. It's a great way to get friends and family together, and enjoy each others company, while laughing the whole time.

This is the best Karaoke Revolution ever. I absolutely love the new addition of different outfits to choose from. Also, the songs on this one are songs that my nephew and I (who is 17 years-old) are very familiar with compared to previous revolution games. This game was worth waiting for.

Pretty good.

My children were slightly disappointed. But overall, for a crowd, it's a lot of fun.

Best Karaoke Game Ever

This game, though it only contained a limited number of songs, took karaoke to a whole new level. The game comes complete with a microphone (varying) and allows you to sing a number of songs and get scored on your singing. The catch, you have to sing exactly like the original performers. Although Paula isn't in the game, much to my excitement, Randy and Simon provide they're vocal and judging talents to give this game a well rounded finish.
